Okay, my age is showing, as I have a feeling that what the others are referring to is completely different from what I was inquiring about. In my day, a split shift consisted of coming in at open, work for four hours. You then had the afternoon off, and came back in for closing which was at least another four hours. They also had a swing shift which came in at Noon and worked until eight-thirty. If they had enough bodies on the payroll there wasn't much O-C in those days, other than the very beginning of the season and the last couple of weeks before Labor Day. Like I said, my age is showing.

We still have split shifts. Open - 1:30 and 6-Close, bane of my existence. Swing shifts still exist too, except they're 11:30-8, and we RARELY get those (and they're not called swing shifts anymore).
