How many days a week do you work?

Thinking about working at CP this summer. How many days a week does an employee usually work? (part time)

6 days a week with 1 day off

Depends on which department. Ride Operators work 6 days a week and depending on how many hours you want, I'm sure you could O-C (open-close) almost everyday. If you need more hours, you can also ask your manager if any other ride needs an extra crew member and you can work through your split shifts (open-1:30-off-6-close). So it really depends on how well your ride location is staffed and how many hours you want too.

What Department are you hoping for? If Park Operations, what ride?

I really don't know anyone in my department that was hired on as part time (I worked in rides). I generally would work 6 days a week and anywhere from 50-70 hours per week, and on average 10-12 hours per day.

Hmmm seems like we do get a lot of hours... I don't think it will be too bad though. It would be nice to have at least 2 days off a week so you could make visits back home and such if your not from Sandusky....

....and I am looking for a job in ride operations. Maybe even an internship!

If you do need two days off, without requesting it off, you can take a Sunday / Monday (considered two separate weeks).

Do they still do swing and split shifts? I knew people that just loved working splits. They either spent the afternoon on the beach or used that time to take care of personal stuff., I wound up working everything but splits, liked opening the best.

I worked anywhere from 5-7 days a week depending on how much staff we had at any given time. Usually 6 days a week.

The only way you would be able to work part time is if you are not living in CP housing. If you are living in their housing, I don't think there is any way they would let you work part time.

I know people working in Park Op had a lot of splits.

What are splits?

Are you required to work 6 days a week? Are you allowed to request to work 4 or 5 days? Does this effect your chance of being hired?

I'm just wondering because working 6 days and then driving home on your day off to see your family then having to drive back to CP that same night seems like it would be a hassle.

For example...

It would be nice to say I can work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday. And leave Thursday Friday free so I can go back home every once in a while. (I only live an hour and a half away)

I have worked in two different departments. In merchandise you don't work very much, the most I worked was 4 days a week. However at the time, I was only 15. Then I worked in foods and it was the same as rides, six days a week and 8+ hour shifts. Hours really depend on the department. Six is the average

Well my first choice was to be a ride op, then second I put working in the on-ride photo buildings, and then third I put resort...

What would hours be like in the resorts and/or on ride photo areas?

It really would depend on staffing. If you do want to go home every once in a while, you can contract days off that would allow you to go home. Or you could take a Sunday/Monday, because that's two separate weeks on the schedule. The day before your day off generally you'll get an 0-6 or O-8, and the day that you return you'll get an 11:30-C or 1:30-C.

In my opinion, it's best to go into the job with the attitude that it will consume your life for the summer, at least if you're in operations. I don't mean that in a bad way, but you'll likely find out that when you aren't working crazy hours, you're probably either hanging out with your friends from work or sleeping. I lived an hour away and managed to visit home about once a month the summer I worked at the park.

It's the people who expect the job to take a backseat to their social life who generally seem to either quit early on or act miserable all summer.

Thanks. I won't be applying for 2013. I will be applying for 2014. And it would be for the marketing internship and not rides or anything. So I'm assuming the times you mentioned might be a little different. I was just wondering for future reference.

I would apply for the 2013 season do whatever job you want to do. Get your foot in the door that way you could even talk to a manager in marketing about internships etc... Plus it would be a fun summer :)
