Ht: 5'7"
Waist: 38"
History of attempts (date, location, permitted (Y/N), slack):
5/25: Red 4-2 Right: YES (2 inches total slack)
5/25: Yellow 5-2 Right: YES (2 inches total slack)
I will note that for reasons I cannot explain at all, I seemed to fit better in the actual seats than in the test chair out front (which MANY MANY more people were trying this year than in years past, without the entrance host even shilling it). I was wearing shorts but no belt, and even went to the pathetic length of untucking my shirt so it would not contribute to "girth". Would a belt and/or more clothing matter? Hard to say. I'm not willing to find out until I have to (and by then, hopefully the problem will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction).

FASCINATION (1955-2000): It *was* the game--the ONLY game--I came to Cedar Point to play

weight 240

able to ride? had to pull a little but was able to
for those who may have bigger legs and butt, watch out, because the belt doesn't necessarily fit around the waist as the legs and butt have a HUGE impact if you will be able to fit or not.
my legs are 25 1/2" in circumference and the inches around my butt are 43 1/2". I know that this seems a little much in information, but if any one wants to measure themselves in these areas, at least they have some idea if they will be able to fit or not. Like I said, I had to pull a little and I was able to get about an inch and a half to two inches. Don't wear much clothing (e.g. couple of t-shirts with a sweat shirt and a jacket, or something of the kind) because it will have an impact on it also. Hope this helps.
If your not having fun, what are you having? Have Fun !!!

I didn't know if I would make it or not, but was relieved when I did pass. I saw at least one other person who didn't make it and had to leave. I also explained to some others why they were doing the 1" slack rule with the seatbelt on MF. I was surprised at how many people had not heard about the death on S:ROS.
I would also like to add that I hope that all individuals who have able to ride in the past, but who are now being turned away, do have the opportunity to ride again this season!
Thanks,

Able to Ride: Magnum, Gemini, Disaster Transport, Wildcat, Mantis (slightly painful), Corkscrew (painful), and Iron Dragon.
It's not a gut or waist issue, it's a thigh issue to the extreme. Mine Ride was the only exception. Belt buckled fine, bar wouldn't lock. On MF and TTD, there was at least a 4 inch gap between the belt and the buckle. You can weigh as little as possible but if you have huge thighs don't bother, you won't ride. I'm working on losing weight by counting calories, it's working but the thighs have got to go. Good luck to those of you with larger thighs!

Well, I'm 6'2" currently at 262 lbs and still wearing 44" jeans/shorts, so I would imagine our weight distributions must be very different for you to be at 42" (thighs would make sense I suppose). I was down to 248 lbs 2 years ago and I wa STILL size 44, although I fit on coasters like Raptor MUCH better than before. I haven't been to CP this year yet (I'm still trying to lose weight as it's getting to expensive to go to CP as it is, let alone to go up there and get turned away from the rides you want to ride), but I can say that I rode MF on the week prior to its original opening weekend (AAA day) and I was close to 300lbs at the time wearing 48" size jeans and I still could get the belt fastened (needed a little help, but it fit). I rode it last year at 280 lbs and 46" jeans and I fit about the same (thus I conclude my waist size didn't matter that much; my thighs must have been about the same both times).
Right now I'm at 44" jeans and falling, but I got this feeling that my thighs are still pretty close to the same width. I'd probably have problems getting extra slack despite being 4 inches off my gut since I first rode it. To me, it just shows how utterly ridiciulous the rule is as losing weight up to a certain extent has NO EFFECT if it doesn't come off the right part of your body. Normally, most people would WANT it to come off their waist first, but it sounds like it'd be better for it to come off one's thighs or butt first to ride MF. Now what that has to do with safety...nothing at all. I think someone should SUE CP for discrimination based on *FALSE* reasonsing. The slack has NOTHING to do with whether the seat belt will function or not. If it LOCKs, it's SAFE. And I know from experience that the T-Bar on that coaster will still fit long after the seatbelt won't. I always thought their seatbelts needed to be about 3 inches longer to be consistent with the coaster's restraint system. And no I never felt even remotely like I was anything but STAPLED in my seat on that coaster any time I've ridden it. I wasn't going ANYWHERE. Compare that to Magnum, where the bar came down across my thighs and the photos I have look like I'm STANDING UP (that's what happens when you hit those ejector bunny hills with a thigh fit on those bars). OTOH, those were GREAT rides and I didn't come close to flying out of anything. There's no way you could squeeze me out of that seat on Magnum. Most peole complain about Magnums' restraints, but they're PERFECT (feeling wise) for larger people, IMO. I think it's the smaller guys that would get that bar jabbing them in a sensitive area.
But hey, the seatbelts are there in case the restraint fails. I've had my lap bar fly up on Blue Streak before (apparently it didn't latch right and they didn't check it) and I still didn't worry because my seat-belt was fastened. Actually, I wish they'd switch to those double-cross style racing seatbelt restraints and get rid of lap-bars entirely. It'd be one heck of a lot more comfortable, especially for coasters that currently use horse-collars. I believe there's a looping coaster in the UK that uses them and I've heard people think it's the most comfortable looper there is. I know how much better Scorpion is at Busch Gardens going through a loop without a horse-collar. Blech. Can't someone come up with a better design than that? I thougth they did when they got rid of them on Flight of Fear, but I haven't seen any other parks follow suit.

Yes but the restraint system on Flight of Fear isn't exactly thigh friendly either. Due to the position of the seatbelt (off to the side of your left or right leg depending on the seat you're in) and the way you're seated, if you've got large thighs there's no way you can get the bar to come down far enough to buckle into the belt (since the BUCKLE is on the bar itself instead of like the new Itamin restraints where the buckle is on the side and the belt is on the bar). *** Edited 5/30/2004 5:14:10 PM UTC by Desann the Evil Lamer***
