Housing Sucks

Yeah it looks my entry got eaten up, so I will say it again, I am really scared about housing now, but that will not stop me from having fun while I am at cp for the summer. You have to make the best of it.

The BUNAC kids aren't treated any differently than the rest of you. It mostly depends on when they arrive.

As for advantages of Cedars, the only one I can think of is location. You can roll out of bed and be to work in about 5-10 minutes.

Frankly, Cedars stands in the way of expansion for the Point, whether it be expansion of the Marina, the park, etc. Some day it will have to go...or it just may fall down all by itself during a stiff wind. Of course, it has stood this long so you never know.

I had to stay there my first year, because all other housing was full. It would have been a major hassle trying to find a ride to the park everyday to work, especially since I didn't start work until an hour after most. Me and my two friends had a pretty cool set up there, and I ended up having a few people from my crew live there too. There are some major definite pros and cons to living in both Cedars and Commons.

As for having the park in my backyard...did I get sick of it? Heck no! If I had ever got out of work early I could come back and change clothes and be back in the park in a matter of minutes. It was excellent for catching some night rides on Raptor or WT and it was always fun to stop and check out people ripping it up on the DDR machines in the main arcade.

If you really love the park and everything it has to offer, then there's no way you'll get sick of it. But I think it makes it that much harder to leave after the summer is over.

I processed in yesterday (Mon 9) and boy i was excited about everything until i got to housing. There was only 1 non-smoking room left, and it was in an apartment, the dorms which i wanted were all full. I went to the bayside apartments, and walked into the apartment and was like holy crap this is a **** hole, there were already 5 guys there, and they were all pigs!!!!! I totally agree with people who left. I had to wait in line to leave, there were like 5 other people leaving at the same time i was. The apartment was so nasty, you couldn't see the floor, there was food and pop cans everywhere, the bedroom was jam packed with no room for anything. CP needs to get reported to someone about these conditions. It is the best park on the planet, but their housing blows beyond anything, and only working 8hr days, means you have to spend a lot of time in your room with total pigs!!!! And don't people bitch bout this, saying that we are pussy's or rich kids, cuz im not either, ive had to deal with bad housing before, band camp had 50 yr old cabins and they were like a 5 star hotel compared to these dumpy apartments, CP needs to take care of this crap hole called housing so people won't leave, cuz i sure would of stayed if there was somewhere liveable to live.

wow I am processing in on sat the 14th now I am scared of the living conditions there... all well there has to be a few down falls.. because that is how life works nothing can be perfect. I am sorry to hear about those who left over housing. U should have stayed at least a week or two and seen if u could not work around it and something.

anywhere you stay you just have to adjust to the living style at 1st but after a couple of weeks you'll get used to it.

I don't want anyone to fear the housing but you have to have realistic expectations. When I recruited I was very honest with my potential employees b/c I didn't want to hire someone that was going to turn around and leave.

Bayside and pretty much everything on the mainland is decent but Cedar Point cannot completely control how the inhabitants of a room keep it up. The fact that the room was dirty/filthy shouldn't be blamed on the park. Cedar's is a completely different matter.

Chief got to it before I could. I've noticed that even in school. Some guys (and girls, you're not immune to this) seem to think that just because mommy picks up after them at home that she'll stop by and clean up after them when they are away. This leaves people who can't stand the mess with no option but to skip out.

You should have told housing about the situation and asked if there was anywhere else you could be placed. If you really wanted to work there, you probably could have found some way to work it out with housing.

Lastly, and maybe Chief can answer, but does CP over fill their staffing needs? Do they automatically assume that X% of people are going to quit within their first week of being there and recruit accordingly. I'm just curious if this is a factor in their hiring.

I worked in a department that never had the luxury of being overstaffed. In accommodations we kept on hiring and never had that issue. Does a department like Park Ops? I really don't know.

they deffinitely overstaff their departments. i worked in games and they were very overstaffed.

Park Op definetly over-hires (in my former department at least). They do factor in a certain percentage of people quitting or not processing in at all. And even then we usually ended up short-staffed.

I can sympathize with cpcoasterfreak - if I walked into my apartment and saw that it was totally trashed and nasty, I would sure be having second thoughts as well. But Cedars should be opening soon...you could have waited a few days and then got your own clean dorm. It's true though that it isn't CP's fault that your roommates were pigs. The guys living there surely weren't going to report themselves for having a trashed apartment. Apparently they didn't mind.

Does park op overstaff? Uh, yeah! It's unfortunate too because people (many of them good workers) are promised tons of hours so that they can make a decent buck over the summer, and a whole lot of them end up leaving before they have the chance to. A month or 2 into the season and the opposite is true. Most rides are understaffed and this is why you hear people talk about working 80+ hours a week.

CJ, I'm goona keep this old thread a goin' lol.

I lived in Cedars my first season in 2007 (all of a sudden I feel like I'm in back to the future, Jump from 2005 to 2009 and back to 2007.) I stayed in Cedars and liked it, it was quiet, cheap, and next to the park. I was kinda used to dorm life, I attended band camp at Edinboro University when I was in High School (2003 - 2007) and the dorm was pretty ****y, plaster falling off the walls and junk but it was for four days and we were in there to sleep.

I went to Commons in 2008 because I processed in early than the year before and I like it, needless to say I had to get up earlier to get to work but it was nice (I didn't have plaster falling off the walls or breathing in asbestos, possibly lead paint in Cedars but I'm not sure), you just have to go and have fun and find stuff to do.

In 2009 I plan to go back to Commons because I do not feel like moving my stuff back and forth. My advise make it as close to home as you can get. REMBER people in 3rd world countries have it worse.

Now I'm gonna go post on a thread from 10 years ago, I just need my plutoneum and my flux capasitor.
