I got a question...are guys actually scheduled that many hours or do you guys ask to have those shifts?

Future CP Ride op?

To answer your question, you are scheduled that many hours. I think your refering to the 60-70 range. My average this past summer on Monster/WW was about 55-60 per week. When I moved over to Magnum to finish the summer, my hours went up a bit. It all depends on where you work, and what kind of crew you have for your hours. Some people want all the hours the can get, and will take some of your shifts if you want. Basically, if you want to work 70 hours you can, but if your comfortable at about 50-55 you can get that too.

Yeah, yeah. WEEK. Listen to what I mean, not what I say.

In the beginning I would usually get 40-45 hours, in mid summer I was getting 60-70 hrs a week.

How about an 18 hour SHIFT (in one day) with a half an hour lunch break that was really only 15 minutes at most? What do you think?
I myself had about 55-65 hours this season! I actually wished I had more, but it was enough.

I'd say illegal, but whatever suits you. They are required to to give you at least a 15 minute break every two hours. I would raise hell if they didn't give me the appropriate breaks.

I wouldn't be too sure that it is law. Depends if Ohio is a Right to Work state or not.

Break time laws are foggy, at best, in Michigan. The same MAY be true for Buckeyes.

i dont think its a 15 minute break every two hours because splits would get only a 15 and they would work atleast 6 hours

oh ya- i averaged around 70 most of the season and low 80's the last 2 weeks i worked in august before halloweekend

I usually never got a official break and I would work 8-10 hours at a time. If we weren't busy, I would try to run to the vending machine and eat something and sit for like 5-10 minutes, but I never got an official one. It never bothered me though, I don't mind working. :)

Finally a shoeless Raptor rider! :)

how do the breaks plan out is it 1 hour for lunch or what ?

where i work i get i hour lunch break and a 15 min tea break.(yes im english) so do love my tea.

Here's how it is for Ride Op's:

Split shift (open - 1:30 & 6:00-close) = 15 min. & 15 min.

Open - 1:30 = 15 min.

Open - 6:00 = 45 min. & 15 min.

Open - 8:00 = 45 min. & 30 min.

Open - Close = 45 min. & 30 min. & 15 min.

11:30 - Close = 45 min. & 30 min.

1:30 - Close = 45 min. & 15 min.

This all depends on whether or not staffing is correct, park hours as posted. This is just a rough guideline. Every shift except for splits & 0-1:30s get a 45 minute lunch break. Everything else just depends.

My first two summers I was an extra-hours fiend and averaged 70-80 hours per week. This past summer I worked upwards of 55 or 60, usually.

Break schedules vary depending on what department you work for. Obviously there are some general rules, but, for example, our break schedule in Admissions was no where near as structured as that chart in the last post. Usually if someone worked more than five hours they got a one-hour lunch, and if someone worked an O/C they would get an hour lunch and then a half-hour dinner later in the day. Of course, we didn't really schedule anyone for O/Cs while I was there this summer...we did splits, so people worked in the morning, got a four- or five-hour "break," and then came back for more.

Isn't there a phone number you can call to get extra hours throughout the park? Are they still doing that this season? What is the number? Do you have to cross train? What positions are they usually looking for? If you want to take the hours - do you call that department? Thanks!

I was usually rocking out somewhere in the 60s, when it was busy the 70s or perhaps above. One day in the '02 season two of the other area sups were gone on vacation, so m'girl Shannon and I had to run the whole area, from 8AM to about 1AM, for five days straight, running around the entire time. Pretty sure it was July, too. The worst part was definitely the exhaustion, because after I got back to Commons it was like... "well, I just busted my ass working and now I'm going to go straight to bed so I can wake up and do it all over again?" Literally felt like I had no downtime. Besides, I had to call my GF and such.

I think the second night in I made the absolutely critical mistake of going to Louies under pressure of a certain associate of mine...

But back in my Six Flags days in '01 we had a big Christian festival called "Kingdom Bound." During that sucker, we had roughly 40,000 people in a park that was ridiculously busy at about 18,000. Lines for an individual food stand would stretch, and I say this quite literally, about 100 feet or more per register. Customers would be so impatient by the time they got up to registers that they were already very, very irritable, so it was hell on the kids in that respect as well. I pulled in 94 hours that week and never got a break (though I racked up some serious smoke time). During that festival I wore a shirt underneath my work clothes that said "Thank God I'm an Atheist."

Oi. I'll tell you what though, after you do work like that, you're hardcore. 70 hour workweeks are an inconvenience at best.

Memories...

Edit: Am I the only person who finds that full, one hour breaks during a really busy time only make me tired and makes the day go a little worse? Breaks are overrated - gotta be hardcore.
