Looking for a restaurant or hotel in the Sandusky general area (15 mi) that has the "VS" network so we can watch the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.
Restaurant has to allow under 18 years of age inside.
Thanks,
Jason
^ - they are pulling satellite not cable, so they should have it. I need to find a place by Morley/Stanwood for Saturday since I'll be camping this weekend and I am NOT missing the game.

Called Buffalo Wild Wings and they said they carry VS Network. Will use that as a backup. I need to find a hotel that has VS so we don't have to spend 3 hours at the restaurant. We live 700 miles away from CP.
Thanks factory81.
^^ - uh, game 1 (Saturday) and game 2 (Monday) are on VS. Remember that channel that hardly anyone gets but was a good deal for the NHL? It's reason 7943 that if Bettman falls, breaks his leg and his neck I will feel no pity.

Yeah, lots of sarcasm in my post. Thought my avatar might be a clue that I'm a fan (and have been since the Dead Wings, all you bandwagoners!).
And yeah, VS sucks. Give me Ken and Mickey any day. :) Better yet, Dave & Mickey (extra points if you know who I'm talking about).
I know exactly who you are talking about. The good news was that he had the National feed for XM radio during the Wings/Stars series. I think I listened to that as much as I listened to the Detroit feed. He didn't do too bad a job on ESPN when teamed up with Panger. That was one of the best announcing tandems out there.

I just realized that Sandusky is about half way between the two cites.
I'll be Coasting for Kids on June 9th

Me too! :) Well I don't know how far youv'e gone back. Me...1997. The first time they had won the cup since 1955. Sure that's only 11 years but I was 10 then so that's a long time for me. lol. And I have loved them ever since.
I hate how when a team starts doing really good and all of a sudden everyone is a fan. I mean I guess it is good for the team that they get more support. But it kinda sucks that as soon as the team plays poorly again, they are yesterday's news. I know so many people that didn't even watch basketball and in 2004 when the Pistons starting doing good, those people were all of a sudden the biggest piston fans ever. Same with the Tigers.
I love the Wings whether they are doing good or doing poopy. Hopefully this year we will bring home the cup! :) I was very sad last year. I really thought that we were gonna win it.

Yeah, no offense, but you're a bandwagoner. Fans came out of the woodwork in 1997 (and even a couple years earlier)... I wonder why that was? ;)
The Dead Wings era hearkens back to the early-mid 80's, when the team was horrible. I started watching about '85 pretty religiously.
^ - try early to mid 80's. My Dad has been a Wings fan since he was a kid, so I was a fan even before I can really remember. First game I remember going to was Detroit against the Nordiques. It was late 80's. I also remember going to one against the Hawks in maybe 91 or 92 and sitting against the glass at the blue-line.
I still remember watching the March 26, 1997 game on a blurry PASS sports while listening on the radio.

Yep - PASS was something. We actually had one of those cheater boxes that let us get it for free - we got it at a flea market (remember those? damn we're old...).
The first game I saw in person was against, coincidentally, Pittsburgh. Sam St. Laurent was in goal for the Wings.

Nope. I'm not. See this is actually a funny story. I do think that my parents were bandwagoners. We never watched hockey until 97 when they took home the cup. I loved every second of it. And I was young, so I didn't know my parents were just watching it because they were in the play offs. I thought that they really did love hockey too.
Ever since then I have loved hockey. When I met my boyfriend almost 5 years ago I learned he loved hockey too and so did his family. When I told my mom that she was like "Oh, yeah I like hockey but I don't really watch it unless they are in the playoffs."
Come to find out, my family was just watching the game because everyone else is. Now I am really the only hockey fan in the family, and it's because of my parents who WERE bandwagoners. lol.

Well... I suppose you can get by on the technicality. But only barely. Just make sure you don't perpetuate the cycle with your own kids.
And go Wings. :)
And you were even late to the bandwagon party. The Wings had a better team for at least 3 years before finally winning in 97.
I don't remember St. Laurent. The earliest I remember (for sure) is Glen Hanlon. Have you ever gone back and looked at that 83 draft year and who the Wings got? Yzerman, Probert, Klima, Grimson. Not a bad draft year, although a little punchy.
Goodbye MrScott

Oh trust me. Me and ESPECIALLY my boyfriend have already started my son (he's almost 2) on loving them. We watch the games all the time. :) And unfortunately money doesn't let us get to the games as much as we would like. But I bought my boyfriend tickets for christmas and we got to see the Wings play against the Sharks in February.
The thing that sucks is that we are moving to Alabama, so if the Wings win (which I know they will this year, I have a really good feeling!) we won't beable to make it to the parade. We will probably also be the only hockey fans in Alabama. lol. My boyfriend's parents have been living down there for about 4 years now and they have to pay around $100 a year or month (not sure which) just so they can get to watch the Wings.

St. Laurent played alongside Hanlon & Stefan, I believe, and was one of the last goalies to have the old style helmets with eye holes rather than a cage - note that we're not talking about a "Jason" style face mask, but a helmet.
And, of course, Detroit got pounded by Pittsburgh... something like 6-3.
