I was reading an article about the Maverick delay. When asked how they were going to correct the heartline roll stress issue, a CP spokesman said they weren't sure but wouldn't rule out removing the element entirely.

Do you think they would actually do this? That was one of the elements I thought was the coolest and if they had to take it out, I'd be very disappointed.

Yeah, I think they're going to remove it completely and just have a big gap there. ;)

You might want to take an hour or two and read the following thread.
3 replies (edit: 4), 0 helpful ones. Yes, there was a good chance this had been mentioned before but considering the number of threads around like "which day is the best to go" or "whats your favorite coaster?", I didn't think people would get on me for posting one that actually applies to a current issue.
Does anyone actually feel like discussing this without being forced to sort through other replies in the other thread? *** Edited 5/10/2007 3:40:20 AM UTC by Mikel30***
You weren't supposed to tell that much about it. ;)

Mikel30 let me some up the 20 pages of jibberish in the news section and save you the 2hrs I wish I had back. Intamin bashing, Intamin praising, CP conspiracy theory (they are lying to us, they've known all along!), the roll is gone, the roll is being extended, "this sucks Im changing my plans", "Im not changing my plans CP will be just as good as last year", flaming, spam, flaming, spam... I think thats about it.

They are even going to have one of those horse gates in the gap to jump over... to keep with the Maverick theme of course!
Now that's MY kind of ride!! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?
Bottom line and the real answer is, NO ONE KNOWS. We can "I think..." or "CP will do...", but when comes down to it, we don't know anything other than what the main page of cedarpoint.com says and what was said in the Crain Cleveland article.
Anything else said is, as of right now, nothing but a rumor.
Now knowing CP and having a bit of "common sense", if one element, while cool but not crucial, had to be removed to enable a $21 million investment run and bring in the money, I'm pretty sure that's a no brainer, but my observation is no better than the "I think..." or "CP will do..." responses in the other thread that is just filled with a whole bunch of post from disappointed fans.

Jo... They would be able to make a horse show themed ride pretty easily out of Maverick... Where they have the S curves back and forth you could have Barrels, and have gates under the airtime hills... and during the launch have speakers in the tunnel with the sound of the starting of a race along with the sound of galloping.
Sounds like some good, cheap theming if you ask me... :)

Cool, so CP is recreating the historic Leap The Gaps coaster (featuring an actual gap in the tracks).
I love those old sepia photos and grainy films of rides from 80 years ago. No restraints needed when you can just tell people to hang on tight or suffer severe injury. How about that one with the 6g circular loop?
Realistically they need a quick fix and straight box track is the way to do that. I'd be surprised if they did anything else.
Just say no to trims
