Guy#1 "Hey lets make one of those, but just make it bigger and faster."
guy#2 "Yeah ok that's good for me."
guy#3 "But dont you guys think that it'll be just as problematic as the current version with possibly even more problems?"
guy#2 "........Your fired!!"

SF built KK with the knowledge that they were buying a coaster that would be down more than it would be open.
I'm gonna say they probably did not know. It is possible they contacted Intamin before TTD was up and running, like the day after TTD was announced or even before.
Does anyone know when KK might have been on the drawing board?
I have been on both, and I have to say I like TTD better. The theming (whats left) is better but the feeling on both is the same. It is true that KK has an extra pull on the launch, but unless you hvae ridden 3 or 4 times prior, or are looking for that pull, you will not notice. *** Edited 7/17/2006 6:35:15 PM UTC by Coastern3rd***
That seems a bit rushed, doesn't it?

Well since the plans for Dragster were already there, all they had to do was modify it and add a few things. Having existing plans probably cut a great deal of time. I'm betting they only took a month to modify designs and start ordering/making parts. And KK's placement wasn’t all that hard to construct. So as soon as designs were finished, they immediately started construction.
And I suppose they spent more time planning KK than they did to the Golden Kingdom because it seemed like they started the GK after everything appeared to be good with KK.
That's just my 2 cents.

The golden kingdom seemed like it started slow because the clearing of bugs bunny land was delayed. Alot of parents complained so they had to hold off for a little longer.
I don't know about a month to modify designs. They had to redesign all new trains because of the sros accident and add the dueling station. Also the obvious the tower and bunny hill.

But they already had that planned for Storm Runner, so that probably didnt take anytime at all. Even Millennium Force's transfer track is the same design as KK's and Sr's if im not mistaken.

Just wondering how many of you have been on both TTD and Kingda Ka? Since KK is only a little higher and have that lame last hill on the exit, I wonder if it is a better ride? Which do you prefer? This August is only my 5th time visiting CP since 1976 and haven't been on TTD yet. The biggest thing at the Point when I was there last was Magnum. Heck, I remember when Gemini was the big deal when it was built. I cant wait to ride TTD, especially with my younger brothers-in-law who have never rode anything higher than 95 feet. It should be a good laugh looking at their faces.
Any special pointers on when to ride and were in the train we should be?
Thanks for your help!
Well, first off you're starting to make me feel old. I remember when the Corkscrew was the big deal. :-)
Both times when I rode last week, the line was only about an hour long. The first day, we rode around 11:00, the second around 3:00 and we had to wait in line during a breakdown which took about 15 minutes. The line seems to really pile up first thing in the morning.
I've never ridden KK. I hear it breaks down more than the TTD. Still, if I were at Six Flags, I'd ride it in a heartbeat. I believe the ride time is around 50-some seconds for KK where it's only around 11 seconds for TTD. I suppose that lame extra hill really adds a lot. :-)
As far as where to sit, IMO, I really don't think it matters. You get a good view no matter what. I was in the last seat one time and the next-to-last the second time and both times (well, the second time at least, the first time I had my eyes closed) I had an excellent view.
Have a great time, and I hope it doesn't break down at all for you! :-)
