Halloweekends 2013

Worth mentioning here, the park is still hiring for Screamster positions! If you or anyone you know may be interested, simply go here and fill out an application:

https://jobs.cedarfair.com/cedarpoint/index.cfm

For your top job choice, select code 613- Screamster. After you fill out an application, head to Castaway Bay for open interviews on Sunday, September 1 or Sunday, September 8 any time between 5-9 PM. This is not an "audition", simply a standard job interview, so no need to worry about that.

I just noticed the outdoor scare zones are not open on Sundays this year (except Columbus Day weekend). I think it's important to know that the outdoor zones aren't an option on Sunday like in the past.

I guess that depends on what you're reading or who you're talking to ...

According to the Getaway Guide (AND guest services as of this past Tuesday), the outdoor scare zones WILL indeed be open on Sundays, and in effect starting Oct. 6th ... This completely contradicts most of the signs and advertisements placed throughout the park which state they're going to be open and have special hours on Sunday, the 13th ONLY.

Not sure why there are conflicting reports and information on this, but it sure seems like the classic case of the right hand not knowing what the left one is doing ... CP NEEDS to get their act together regarding this matter as Halloweekends are on top of us.

The hours on Sunday have changed. Here is a link to the Halloweekends website which will tell you everything you need to know.

The hours are not so much in question as are the conflicting advertisements saying that the outdoor haunts will be open every Sunday in October.

While I was standing in the office just this past Tuesday, guest services called marketing and they flat out confirmed what was printed in the Getaway Guide that they would be open beginning Sunday, Oct. 6th.

Now I understand that the schedule and different things like operating hours can change; that's not a big deal. But for the people that don't and can't make it to the park to catch said change, and or see it on the link (and from what I can make out of it, there is no mention about the outdoor haunts one way or the other), and then in turn, plan on coming on a specific Sunday in October because they were told or lead to believe these particular attractions were and are going to be open, only to find out they're closed - that IS a big deal ! It's a complete disservice and hose job to the customer.

When on a site for one of the scare zones, at the bottom where it shows the hours the only sunday listed is the 13th. I don't know what to believe. Guest services is saying something different than the website.

Anybody know if they've got a band for the Red Garter show this year, or if it's just vocalists singing along to prerecorded tracks ?

Ride On 17, yeah, you're right. If you click on the actual scare zone, it does give the date and times. Who knows, but now I'm starting to lean towards them only being open on that one Sunday.

Didn't make it last year, but I think I've been to every other Halloweekends besides year 2 since Cedar Point started it.

It's really amazing how it's come about. I don't know how many people remember how it started (probably a decent portion on this site), but the idea of a whole park themed like that was newer at least around here. When it started my family stayed at Breakers (something we normally wouldn't spend money on) since, in an effort to extend the season, they were offering 2 for 1 deals and it was really neat just to see the old hotel set up for Halloween.

In the park itself, the crowds were far less and this was both good and bad compared to today. There were only 3 haunted houses and no outdoor scare zones (eventually the Fright Zone would start as the first), but the fog and lights were neater with fewer people. I remember coming a Friday after it had been raining one year and we were walking down Frontier Trail with the park open and no one in sight for awhile.

They didn't have Boo Hill for the kids, but the Antique Cars in Frontier Town were set-up for Trick-or-Treating which was very neat as a kid. You stopped the car at a variety of spots and got candy.

I kind of feel there was a bigger emphasis on shows to start with (although maybe they just seemed neater to me as a kid). The Tell Tale Heart being read at the Glass Blowing Theater was always neat. They once used the legend of the carousel horse they have in the Town Hall as an attraction (not really done all that neat though). The witches show was a lot better on the Frontier Trail (before Millennium Force was built) than it eventually seemed in Peanuts Playground/Planet Snoopy.

The one thing I always look for still in the park are the skeletons in the hot tub. That was on Frontier Trail from the beginning. When they added the Fright Zone originally it was just outside of it, but moved inside of it when the zone was expanded. I think it moved entirely last time I was there, but will keep an eye out again.

Also one of my favorite decorations that I hope will return are the skeletons sitting on top of the tunnel you walk through to enter the Frontier Trail as you walk under Millennium. I thought it was great how they were set up to do O-H-I-O.

I enjoyed the small-scale shows of the early HalloWeekends. One of my favorite was The Legend of Fort Sandusky. It was a short show but the handful of physical effects and "twist ending" made for a neat little experience.

I remember that show being there, but we always seemed to miss it. Finally was determined to see it one year, but it was gone.

I just say on Tony's, or should I say Mr. Clark's twitter a picture of Thunder Canyon empty. He said it was emptied for Halloweekends. I always thought it was emptied every night anyway, am I wrong?

^It is emptied every night...But it hasn't filled up the next day as to flood out the fresh cornstalks and props :P

The best Halloweekends show was and will likely always be the 'Trio of Terror'; the actor who did those readings was phenomenal & the venue was perfect.

New Blog. ZHS looks very open compared to Erie Estate being very compact. (Walls distance that is.) I wonder what the layout will be like. If you will just look in the class rooms, if you have to go in, or there being some incentive to adventure in the rooms. As of now it looks very "roamy"

The Crystal Method is the only way to find The Winner!

What day is it that pretty much every ride is open? Saturday, right?

Agreed. I miss that show a lot. Would love to see it return in some capacity.

Remember when they would have real professional magicians such as Aaron Radatz, Tim Hill, and Chris Linn?

The dancing/magic show they have now is an embarrassment.

At least Kings Island has magician Ed Alonzo.

The show this year will feature a professional magician.
