Geauga Lake is really going down hill. The rides are looking awful, the park is looking dirty, and attracts thugs. Whatever happened to this place? It's never crowded either! I really can imagine this place going out of buisness real soon. Geauga Lake, get your act together! Even though it is hard to be better when you have the worlds best amusement park only about an hour away. How much longer do you guys think Geauga Lake will last?
See here or here for some good discussion about possible futures for Geauga Lake (and what people think should be done).
Goodbye MrScott

I completely disagree. On both of my visits, the park was very clean, other than the old waterpark area. The rides look pretty good other than the trains on Thunderhawk. But, for more complete reviews and suggestions, just follow Gonch's links. Lots of good reviews and what I'd like to call constructive criticisms. And for the record, I don't think GL will close any time soon. At least, that's what the magic 8 ball told me. ;)

Every time I went to the park this season the place was clean, neat and "thug free."
It was pretty darn slow. Whenever I'm there I hope for the place to get more traffic. I'd love to see the park recover from it's less than perfect history.
I really enjoy this park.
CPboy77 – I am wondering when you made your observation regarding Geauga Lake. Have you visited the park recently?
Even though I am not completely happy with the way things are happening right now at The Lake, I can not say that the park looks dirty or attract any more “thugs” than other parks. I was there quite a bit this past season and I have to say the ride side was always clean, although it was empty most of the time. This is quite a contrast from previous years (cough *CF* cough) when it was downright disgusting. I must say I never saw any problem with what you are referring to as thugs. I know they had a problem in the past (cough *SF* cough) when they gave the passes away and it was being used as a baby sitting service.
CP is an excellent park and I enjoy going there, but hardly the world’s best. Advertising does brainwash a certain percentage of our youth. I am hoping GL finds its niche sooner than later.

How long ago is "recently"?
I was there at the end of August and I thought the park was looking pretty good. Granted there are areas for improvement, but it is far from a dump.
As enthusiasts, it is up to us to get the word out to help get people back to the park. So instead fo bad mouthing Geauga Lake, try looking at the Positive. We still have a nice park in NE OHIO and we should help support it.

Yeah GL is a great park! They may be low on business but CF will hopefuly help boost it back! But I also like the short lines.

With the Maxx Pass, Wouldn't you think a lot more people will go, at this moment I am planning 2 trips next year.
I think things are getting better there.
Actually, I'm LESS likely to go with the Maxx Pass due to the lack of a 2-park parking pass for 2007.
In fact, I am leaning toward just getting a Maxx Plus pass (with Cedar Point parking), and skipping a GL parking pass. The upgrade to Maxx Plus is cheaper than a GL parking pass, and Soak City has more to do than Wildwater Kingdom.
While I really enjoy Thunder Falls and Dominator, I don't feel those two attractions will drive me to Geauga Lake much this year. If I do go, I'll probably be taking RTA for most visits to avoid parking fees.
EDIT: And to address the original topic, I'd say that Geauga Lake has been going down hill for about a decade. While Cedar Fair has done a great job with the water park, I don't think that the park will go back to its former glory (the Funtime years) anytime in the near future. Hopefully Bill has some tricks up his sleeve, but we'll have to see.

Being Mavericky since 2007!
If you're a real GLP fan then one should remember that the Funtime days were the worst for poorly behaved guests. I'm not to sure what one means by thug, but thugs, trash and the other riff-raff were always a part of the park.

Wow, insightful post...That must have taken you all of like what? 3 minutes to create?
Btw, what are these "thugs" you mention? Other than the occasional CP employee with an ego giving my ride hosts issues.

People with tattoos have families, too. "Thug" is relative. It's not how someone looks, it's really all in their actions.
IMO, the actions of "thugs" and the actions of obnoxious enthusiasts who think that parks should cater to them, and spend more time complaining and seat poaching than having fun - are equally annoying.
GL may not be going downhill, but it's certainly going to have fewer of those pesky rides to bother with.
I know. I'll shut up now. ;)
