Geauga Lake web site?

Well, I did it the easy (albeit not very efficient) way...I just PINGed the server to see which IP address came up, and did a whois to look up the domain names. The rest of the information came from the still-working tools at samspade.org. Which was interesting...sbcglobal's DNS had clearly not updated while the one that samspade was using had, hence my browser went directly to 216.65.207.50 (the reference in SBC's DNS) while samspade indicated that the domain now goes to 63.151.41.219.

OS-X also has a GUI-based network utility to give a GUI front end to netstat, ping, lookup, traceroute, whois, and finger.

Rideman I have no idea what you just said...

But then again, what do I know?

He's saying that some DNS servers are pointing to one owner of the domain (Six Flags) while others are pointing to another (Cedar Fair).

DNS servers or "Domain Name Servers" are the machines around the internet that tell your computer where to go when you request www.whatever.com

Thanks for the great link Rob! I wanted to get some of that Bear Gear a while ago for my mom for her birthday and I couldn't remember the name of the site! ;)

Cedar Fair owns the domain name, not Six Flags. And they're "domain name servers."

Now, how many techheads get annoyed by the general redundancy of the phrase "DNS servers"?

I own you!

Is that anything "ATM machine", "PIN number" or "Queue Line"??? :)

Technically, DNS is the "Domain Name System." So, DNS Servers are "Domain Name System Servers". This is often shortened to "Domain Name Servers" or, more commonly, "Name Servers". You can read more than you ever cared to know about DNS here.

So no, I'm not bothered by the general redundancy, as it does not exist.

Jeff,

Thanks to you and your users we have been working with “Bess filtering services” and other Domain name blocking organizations to get the geaugalake.com name correctly classified, and off the block lists.

While it may take a few days for some users to notice the change most everyone should be able get there by the time we launch the new site.

Until launch of the new site the address http://www.geaugalake.com/ should point to http://www.sixflags.com.

If anyone is still being blocked from seeing the site please drop me an email (cfadministrator@cedarfair.com) and I will try to get it cleared up before the new site is launched. Thanks again for your help,

Webmaster

Thanks Jaws,

It is great to hear that People in the Know(tm) actually do visit this site, and read some of our comments. I think that in itself is a step of good customer service, as we enthusiasts are probably the most difficult guests to please.

Anyway, it is good to hear that you are working on the site, and I look forward to seeing it launch.

Thanks again,

Sam

P.S. If you also work with Cedarpoint.com, I should probably tell you that the link from whatever photo is in the main view always goes to Castaway Bay, even when the photo displayed is of Dragster.

Sam,

You would be surprised how many people "in the know" visit this site. Enthusiasts are VERY important.

Thanks for your coments, I will take care of the links on the CP site right away.

Jeff,

Seriously? Have you ever been in a room with me when I wasn't moving them non-stop?

Jaws

Hm, I actually mentioned it to Bess services last week sometime. I suppose more support for you to get Geaugalake.com correctly classified.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new page. It would be great to meet you, a couple questions to ask, but not relating to CF sites.

I must have looked at the site not ten minutes before you made that post (I think), and it was still redirecting to SixFlags.com.

Yea, Moles post was up less than a minute after I activated the site. I don't know if I should be happy about that or creeped out...
Just surfing at work. Maybe I was public visitor #1 to the site.

It's nice to see other web pages that I haven't had to design.
