Gatekeeper Bins

Every hour.

I just kinda skimmed through...

Drink Bottle Prob: Easily solved if CP would let me buy a wristband. I'm not the only one who feels this way... I think we can all agree on either that or a season ride n refresh option.

Sunglasses Prob: Am I the only person who wears a strap?

Hat Prob: I actually sorta get this one. Most rides the stuff down your shirt method works fine. Make an exception for GK.

Why is everyone so worked up? Peace love and coasters man. :)

Any idea whats up with the new stickers on the seatbacks of Gatekeeper asking that you do not extend your legs while riding? Something happen?

Gatekeeper2013's avatar

Those are on Raptor to. The main reason I would guess is if your foot can touch the seat back and the seat suddenly gets closer you could do some serious damage to your leg. Its just a safety warning.

Someone near the max height of 6'6" with long legs might actually be able to kick the car in front on the right side of the train coming around the curve to the lift..

Or maybe they're just tired of cleaning off the shoe streaks on the back of each seat.

It is probably just a legal protection move. It makes sense, considering your average GP might not realize how much the cars in front of you can move relative to your car (especially on Raptor, which also got new labels if my facts are right.)

HaHa, my daughter got into a huge argument with the lady at the front of the line about the souvenir cups. The lady said they don't want the cups in the bins because they don't know if they have liquid in them and they might spill on people's stuff (ie. cell phones). My daughter said, first of all, the cups are transparent, so you can see if there's liquid in there and anyways Cedar Point is not responsible for lost or damaged items, so what's the big deal? She was fired up!! She wants to write a letter... "Dear Mr. Cedar Point, I am a white woman, in America..." (Thanks to White Chicks!)

That's funny.

I get backpacks and stuff, it's getting out of hand like carry ons are on airplanes. But a stinking souvenir cup, come on! When you look at the bins and think, geez these are for hats and sunglasses. Mighty big for just those!!

Just don't get it. Personally I think it's a money making scheme to get you to rent lockers or not buy the souvenir cup and waste money buying drinks you can't refill. Just the way I see it.

Regardless, I'm a platinum pass member, always will be, love Cedar Point, small potatoes compared to issues at other parks!! I guess some of us regulars are just reluctant to change!

Ride on!!

Had a similar experience with the souvenir cups... It's just terrible sometimes when its 90-100 degrees and you can't have your souvenir cups during a time that takes up to 75% of your stay at CP, waiting in line! The only way you can drink/stay hydrated in the lines, is if you pay $4 and get it out of the machines that are always sold out!

I dunno why CP does not realize it, but a guest's overall experience at their park could greatly change for the worst if they do not stay hydrated! You feel terrible and who can afford to pay $4 every time you want a drink of water in 90+ degree temperatures?

We all understand that it's a business, but giving guests that ultimatum when you have to wait 1 1/2 hrs in a line? No park should put their guests in a position where they have to pay $4, just to be safe! Just wrong!

Then they tell you to put it in a locker, that may or may not be located anywhere nearby.... If everybody who brought/bought a souvenir cup on any given day went to purchase a locker, would there be enough lockers to accommodate each cup in the park? That's not including the other uses for the lockers!

Another is the disposal of any opened/unopened bottles (bottled water) before entering the stations! Basically if you choose to ride, your $4 bottle of Dasani will be thrown in the trash... If they see that it exists when entering the line or entering the station, they'll tell you to dispose of it, even if you suggest hiding it!??

I don't care how much I love Cedar Point, but I've got a serious problem with the way it's management handles this issue! Revenues for CF are a record high, all for good reason and good business? Sorry to the fans who disagree with me and go in the defensive over this comment. I couldn't imagine what most CP guests feel when they tell their children that they're out of money and have to leave early, because it's too hot in the park?

They might be tired of cleaning all the spilled pop in those bins from careless people who just throw them in there. This doesn't seem like a big problem to me, maybe because ill never (and don't) wait 1.5 hours for a ride either.

I have a solution to this HUGE problem - Don't get souvenir cups - (sorry CF)! There are drinking fountains all over the park and water is free - who pays $4?. Plus, pop does not keep you hydrated like water does - it just makes you want to drink even more.

It's not an ultimatum, and you don't "have" to wait. You may choose to wait under the conditions the park specifies.

No park should put their guests in a position where they have to pay $4, just to be safe!

No park puts their guests in a position of paying $4 "just" to be safe. If you don't like the cost involved, don't patronize the business. I live close enough to Six Flags Great America I can ride my bike to the park;. I rarely visit the place because I don't consider the costs involved to be a good value.

your $4 bottle of Dasani will be thrown in the trash...

I've never bought bottled water in a park. Why? When there are drinking fountains available, and free water at restaurants and food stands?

Haha ok dude! For one I'm not complaining about the price, I'm being reallistic as a human being. People go to the parks to ride and have to wait in line... Water fountains? Really dude? They barely work and there's less than ten in the park!

Bro you sound so ridiculously un human with your response to me telling me if I don't like the prices then don't go? If you have anything negative to say about my one issue, of it being difficult to consume a sufficient amount of fluids on a busy day, then seriously bro you got problems. If you have a problem with me having a problem, about the souvenir cups that they market the crap out of not being allowed in the lines, then your not even worth my time!

They want you to buy their cups, then pretty much tell you... If you want to ride our rides, then you need to buy a locker! That's business but not good business, and you telling me of your cheapskate ways at the park? No thank you, I'm not that selfish with my guests, it's the less fortunate families that come to the park with their kids that suffer!

The majority of guests will spend the most of the day waiting in lines, not out on the midways where there are options! What options do you have while you wait 2-3 hrs to ride MF, and the machines are sold out? Even if they're not sold out, your only choice is to purchase a drink! There is no Dixie cup option or water fountains! Just crowded body heat and stank! You really are just a trouble maker, and what's pathetic is that your probably an adult!

I'm never gonna avoid CP because of it's costs or any park, I drop a thousand everytime I go LOL..... But only a selfish minded individual, like yourself will tell a less fortunate family with 2 young kids... Dixie cups and less than 10 water fountains! Regular drinking water IMO should be plentiful and offered free in sufficient amounts, and non-water beverages (including bottled water) should most definitely be priced appropriately!

All rides should be able to accommodate the souvenir cups they sell promoting the .99cent refills, and each should be consistent with each other's rules! I'm only pointing this out because it has effected me and has been a very, very hot topic in the park from my 3 trips this year. Maybe CP would sell more souvenir cups over a season, and maybe the guest's overall experience will improve? I mean, isn't that the main objective to running any business? Cedar Point is great and I love it, but it's not perfect!

If there are too few water fountains to please you, don't go.

It's not difficult to consume enough fluids. If you truly find it difficult, why do you choose to submit yourself to such a test?

So the park "market[s] the crap" out of souvenir cups. You can choose not to buy them.

....pretty much tell you... If you want to ride our rides, then you need to buy a locker.

They don't "pretty much" tell you. They advertise an option. You don't like it, don't spend the money. Plan ahead. Choose otherwise.

What options do you have while you wait 2-3 hrs to ride MF...

I don't wait that long to do anything, leave aside ride amusement park rides. Why would you wait that long for such a short experience?

What's pathetic is that your probably an adult!

Guilty as charged! I'm an adult! Who knows the difference between your and you're!

I'm never gonna avoid CP because of it's costs

I'm sure the company appreciates such blind devotion.

...non-water beverages (including bottled water)...

Um... how is bottled water a non-water beverage?

...should most definitely be priced appropriately..

It's an amusement park. They're not in business to price "appropiantely." they're in business to make money. Since you apparently are willing to pay the price they charge....

^ wow, just wow...

Anyway

Or maybe they strategically placed said new stickers to cover up all those shoe streaks. :)

Thanks again for grading my 5 minute reply, that you clearly went out of your way to nitpick! You nitpicked stuff that had absolutely nothing to do with my argument, and twisted everything that I said in an attempt to belittle me! Haha seems I was typing too fast and made a few typos in the process.. Oops, didn't mean to hurt you with that!

I want everybody to read my comments, then your replies... Cuz it's clear what kind of person YOU'RE trying to be!

It's a pain to have to put your cups somewhere to ride, but at least the lockers aren't ridiculously expensive. $2 for 2 hours isn't that bad. Being able to have your drink in line would be better, sure, but it could be worse, IMO.

Nonsense, bro.

They offer beverages in a variety of containers, only one of which isn't permitted in line.

Regular drinking water IMO should be plentiful and offered free in sufficient amounts...

And it is. We bring in a couple unopened bottles of water. When those are finished, we'll usually collapse them to ride, then refill later at a fountain. We've been able to stay quite hydrated.

All rides should be able to accommodate the souvenir cups they sell...

The park sells (and promotes) all sorts of things. Should they all be allowed in lines and on rides, simply because the park has the nerve to advertise those things? That's pretty absurd.

http://www.themeparktourist.com/features/20140824/28153/lost-geauga-lake-how-worlds-largest-six-flags-disappeared Just wanted to let everybody know why I've got a short fuse with CP and CF for that matter.... CP was always my favorite, but wasn't always my home park. Imagine if CP closed like Geauga Lake did? It would hurt, wouldn't it? My memories were turned into more of an eyesore than a land-fill or junkyard! We didn't have one day to say goodbye to the park, not one!

I understand exactly why CF did what they did, but the way they did it is what gets me and leaves me in question? CF gives a whole 2 months for the crappy Mantis, but cannot give one day for the entire Geauga Lake Park? CTFO! It was a legit business move and had to be done, but the way it was done was extremely cruel, along with the way it was dismantled and left to rot!

So this goes to everybody that may or may not have been offended when I would come down on CP for something..... I'm sorry, I'm just bitter and always will be over this and am acting on that anger in the wrong way! I shouldn't take it out on a park I love so much, a park that had nothing to do with CF's business moves with Geauga Lake!

Once again to everybody here on PointBuzz... I'm sorry for the short fuse with CP, I just have a hard time dealing with this. Hopefully you all can forgive me and realize why I get the way I get sometimes towards CP... I will from now on, not let my feelings about GL get in the way of my love for CP!

CP almost did close back in the 50's. Just remember Cedar Fair didn't close Geauga Lake - Dick Kinzel did under questionable circumstances. Cedar Fair is about making profits, unlike in the Kinzel era, Matt Ouimet is making a dent in Cedar Fairs debt. Without those in park spending that you seem to despise, Cedar Point could really be in danger of closing or scaling down considerably, so remember that the next time you think they are trying to "rip you off".

The key executives from that era, the CEO, CFO and COO are all gone. Don't take your frustrations out on the present company, they don't deserve that. I couldn't be happier with the direction the company is going.

I go way back when George Roose and Emil Legross ran the park. What I see of Matt Oiumet's philosophy, it reminds me a lot of what was going on back in the late 60's through the 70's. The park and company are on a really good road now, accept the fact that the whole Geauga Lake incident is dead and buried and the people involved are gone.

Last edited by Pete,

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I was referring to CF as the culprits of the closing because Kinzel represented them at that time and because of that made CF responsible! From a business point of view, it had to happen! Six Flags ruined that park and in 2 seasons took it to it's maximum! Geauga Lake would always be held back with height restrictions and other limitations, because of local zoning! Six Flags just got in too deep, leaving themselves with nowhere to go with the park and Cedar Point flourished due to the benefit of being located on a privately owned peninsula! Geauga Lake should have been left alone in the late 90's, but in business.... It is what it is! The only way it could have survived is if went the small family park route, which Six Flags said goodbye to when they took it over.

On another note, it was hard to say goodbye to the park and at the time was mad at CF, and rightfully so, but I do know that it had to be done! Cedar Fair also has made the necessary changes recently and have done fantastic things in and out of the park since! In reality today, I have nothing but good words to say about the company and it's parks, besides a few petty things that really are minor issues and are things that any guest would experience at any park! I just want to say that I'm sorry for letting this saltiness from the past effect my current opinion on Cedar Fair/Cedar Point! :)

Cedar Point is and always has been my favorite park, especially after todays classy announcement of the merger with Lebron!! First class move by Cedar Point, Lebron James and thank you Lord for not letting CP rename one of their coasters LOL!
