Gas at $3.25,will affect attendance

Wait - weren't you supposed to provide science debunking the human-global warming link? All that does is further debunk your view.

No...well, not necessarily. I put that link on purpose, as it probably reads as you would expect, and frankly so would I.

Let me clarify; WAY back in my first smart-ass comment I said "if you believe in global warming". What I was referring to was the theory that human beings are the leading number one cause, and that unless we follow Al Gore's lead, we will live out the inevitable "The Day After Tomorrow" doomsday scenario. Do I think human's contribute? Of course! There is no way for a part of an ecosystem to have a null effect (at least in our case).

Is my perspective in the minority? Of course...and as you read (and thank you for actually reading it), it is not very popular. I'm not trying to convince you...well, I guess what I am trying to convince some is that a competing theory to the "humans are the leading cause" idea is not just a "crazy bunch of wackos" hired by the Bush administration.

The article represents the struggle of anyone who competes with that theory, though...it barely sees the light of day.

Sorry guys, been busy selling cars... I mean smoking dope. ooops I mean working on a car all day.

Brandon, what if an H2 or Navigator got 35 mpg? Would you still hate them as much and how do you feel about the impending pony car war?

All I can tell you is that there will be a generator on the vehicle. Gas or E-85 or something along those lines. It will look pretty close to the concept and be built on the Delta platform which currently underpins the G5, Cobalt, Ion and HHR. *** Edited 5/26/2007 4:56:32 AM UTC by Coastern3rd***

If the technology was in place to give H2s and Navigators 35 mpg, then I would be pissed if compact and mid sized cars weren't getting 70+ mpg for real world driving.

OK...I'm bumping this thread briefly for a little exciting earth-friendly news.

Call it ecological harmony..

The work of Gaia..

BUT...days ago our 1997 Olds Bravada, which gets a pathetic 15 miles/gallon croaked in a ball of smoke (literally), and a new vehicle is on the way.

I just thought I would share that me (the EVIL anti-human-contribution-to-global-warming-guy) is now getting a decent 34 mpg, and saving approximately $135 a month in the process.

I must say, doing the math, we will save almost $1700 this year in gas alone.

So....even though I still believe solar activity is a bigger contributer than human activity to global warming, I felt it appropriate that I share my most recent contribution to the fight against the apocolypse and terrorism has been made.

Amen.

Let it be so.

It's interesting that you brought this thread back on the day that a barrel went down $2.

What did you get Kevin?

By the way... One of my rides requires premium. Anyone want to complain about filling up at $4.01 a gallon with me? *** Edited 5/30/2007 10:38:35 PM UTC by Coastern3rd***

I have to pay $5.50 a gallon - CASH. No credit accepted. Luckily my truck only holds like 12 gallons.

Driving the Ford Econoline; to CP and back home only used half a tank. That was still about $60 dollars worth of gas though:( Guess I should look on the bright side... it was worth it :D

I got a 2007 Cobalt...this was a very unexpected purchase, and with a new little one on the way in September we needed something very affordeable, plus being the son of a GM retiree we get a nice little GM discount. 0% interest to boot!

You'll all be so proud of me in that I voluntarily opted for the smaller engine (4 cylinder) which gets even better gas mileage.

Three cheers for Captain Planet!

It's still about 3.20 or so in Cowtown (Columbus)

Unexpected? Did your past vehicle blow it's last breath of pollution? Did you find a tree with money growing on it?

At least you didn't say you bought a Prius, I would have had to tell you to go hug a tree.

Free (no need for two or more people) HOV lane access with a Prius. Gotta love that.

It my case, a Prius gives no such advantage.

No longer Cowtown... we got the Short North arches working so we have finally returned to the title of "The Arch City". Glad to see prices go down a bit as I look forward to a weekend of pizza delivery.

Did you find him this vehicle? Which one and how much?

If it was about image, I'm sure he'd rather have a brand new SUV that actually IS more fuel efficient than one made in 1999.

I don't think finding the true root of the problem is derailing the argument at all. It's just shifting the focus onto the true issue. If you're honestly looking to solve a problem, you go to the root.

Who cares if we live in a capitalist society? The government regulates what companies can and can't produce ALL the time. There's nothing earth shattering about that. The government also regulates what can and can't be imported into the country. A while back, I tried to import a car from Europe that was VERY fuel efficient. However, since the car wasn't offered for sale in the US, I wasn't permitted to do so unless I bought two. The second one was for the government to do emissions and crash testing on. There's a demand for the car I wanted to import, but the government said no. Imagine that, the government saying no to something. My point is, I was trying to buy a car that would have been good for the environment, but the government said no. Yet, they say "go right ahead" to all the companies making vehicles that destroy the planet.

I think you'll find in several years, the government will start telling auto makers they can't continue along the current path. This is what I'm trying to say. If the problem is gas-guzzling cars that pollute, get rid of them. It's actually quite simple.

What a mind boggling and depressing story. It seems to be bureaucracy at it's worst.

I am still agonizing about whether I should spend the money to get a Prius,or just suffer with my 2006.5 KIA Optima which only gets about 15MPG around town.Trading would mean a huge loss as KIA devalues faster than a snowball melts in an oven.Somebody convince me that I should bite the bullet and become green.I found a 2002 Prius on E Bay car sales for $9800.It looks perfect and has under 79K on it.It had been wrecked, but has been totally restored with Toyota parts.Any of you car experts have any thoughts about that?

Generally speaking, buying a restored vehicle is a risky deal. Its hard to know whether all of the problems were corrected, and things like a bent/twisted frame, or a fatigued suspension component may 'check out' fine now, but cause problems in the future. Of course, the car could also be completely fine.

The KBB value for that model, with that mileage and a "fair" rating, which is generous, given the title history, is just over $10K. So, its not necessarily a great deal, all things considered. Though its not a bad deal, either. If it were me, I'd look for something with a clean title.
