Future Expansions

gambling can happen in lake erie off shore as my hometown ,Lorain, is working on it right now.... the developer i work for Alan Spitzer already has purchased an old lake freighter and is in the process of building a beutiful harbor for it off the black river..look for off shore gambling within 2 years if it gets voted down again in 2003
Cedar Point ran out of room a long time ago. That's why they keep bulldozing and taking out all the great one of a kind rides and attractions.

Cedar Point does not have a space problem(TM).

Oh wow, Jeff, I forgot about that. Seems like it's been a while since you've had to use it! ;)

Something along the lines of a Downtown Disney/ Pleasure Island would be great. It's always a bummer to spend a kick a$$ day at the park, and then head back here to Metro Detroit. Some after park "hangout" or club would be fun.

Let your mind go...and your body will follow...

I think that unless they expand to the mainland, they'll soon run out of room. Yes, there's still room & stuff they can remove/relocate, but, unless something get's done soon, they'll be out of room.
They can always expand into the parking lot if they had to. However I can see them moving Soak City possible. But not likely. There are many variables but CP has not really built coasters through coasters ie: phantoms revenge. So space isn't that much of a concern yet.

Jeff your right... you don't have a space problem when your park is completely surrounded by water... and you need to keep cutting down all the trees and taking out good rides and attractions to replace them with Mega coasters that fall apart or look like crap after a few years. Notice the paint job on Mantis lately?

We've been over this time and time again, but since you've been here since yesterday, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. When is the last year that the total ride count went down and not up? Tell me which year. Assuming that you don't count the Soak City expansion, that would be 1995, when the Frontier Carousel was sent to Dorney. The net ride count doesn't change.

And even then, so what if they remove stuff. As rides age, they're harder to get parts for and the public loses interest in them.

I can name at least a dozen places to put more rides and/or coasters. They're far from running out of room.

Jeff... Disney is the number one theme park in the world because they discovered along time ago that to remain at the top you have to designate and preserve your signature attractions. The idiots at Cedar Point have not figured this out yet. Keep what got you to where your at today and then build around it.

I am sorry though... when you stated CP is not running out of room I assumed you were referring to the current area of the park. Yes CP does have in it's five year plans to move the parking to the mainland and develop the current parking lot into additional midway. The new parking and the entrance to the park will be connected by a monorail.

If your wondering how I know all this... I worked for the park for a few years... I was in management. My best friend still works at the park and he is in upper management. In Port Clinton, Ohio I operate a former Western Cruise paddlewheel boat and we have a museum full of Cedar Point artifacts. I am a historian for the park and give lectures on Cedar Point history. In October I gave a lecture at the Maritime Museum on CP and I am suppose to give 4 lectures at the Merry-go-round Museum throughout this year.

You must not have been to Disney lately. Ever go to "Tomorrowland" at Magic Kingdom circa 1990? It should've been called "1970's-version-of-tomorrow-land." Worse, half of Epcot has become a joke among Disney fans because it totally lacks any revolutionary quality. Half of the pavillions around Spaceship Earth have been gutted, and now the big orb itself is being revamped.

Why? Because old stuff sucks if you expect to keep bringing in the peeps. It's hard to build things that don't appear dated after time, especially if it has some kind of theme to it. People didn't go to Cedar Point to ride Pirate Ride. When competitors are building rides like Tomb Raider and the new Scooby ride at PKI, Pirate Ride is a joke. And that's not even getting to the issue that old stuff gets harder and more expensive to maintain every year.

Jeff... I agree Epcot is a joke. But you should post a new topic that you think the Pirate Ride was a joke and let's see what kind of responses you get.

Clearly CP has no worries about room for future ride expansion. I've never been behind the scenes so i can;t say for certain how much room is there, but there seems to be quite a bit of dead space around the park. Not to mention the ability to intermingle two rides. On the other hand it would seem to me that there really isn't any space for more hotels (but do they really want that?) or other out-of-park attractions.
Jeff,

Captain Ed ain't worth arguing with. Anybody who is that stuck on himself won't listen to reason. There is some history between Captain Ed and the park but I am sure he doesn't want it all aired out here.

I will say, for the umpteenth time, that if you think Cedar Point can't get creative with the space they have then you should take a look at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. They have a ton of rides including a very respectable number of coasters in a smaller space than Cedar Point.

And the Pirate Ride a classic? You have got to be kidding me. Let's see...Pirate Ride or Raptor? Gee, I guess it is a toss up.

Captain Ed is right! WDW will never remove Mr. Toad's wild ride. CP's Pirate ride was the coolest ride in the park. They should have removed the Blue Streak or Corkscrew instead their signature Pirate Ride. ;)
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was transformed into a Winnie the Pooh themed ride. Even Winnie the Pooh gives Disney a headache due to legal issues. I personally don't care, I never ridden the pirate ride and from what I hear from my dad it was a joke. The Pirates of the Carribean kicks butt, and I'm looking forward to the movie this year. I do however think it would have been cool to theme the thing after Snoopy. But it would probably turn into DT. (defunct theming that is).--------------------------

Jesus-Freak

Chief,

The pirate ride was removed two years after the raptor was built. In 1996

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

I heard a rumor that the park was going to move the parking lot back on the main land and then use the old parking lot to make the park bigger. With buses picking people up an taking them to the park. Mind You this is only a rumor and I don't beleive it but it is possible.
It won't happen this year or next. Maybe in 10 years? Who knows?

I didn't say it would happen next year I figured about 8 or more years.
