Fright Zone on Saturday

Since when is it required to get off the train?? Near as I recall, people can stay on for a full circuit if they wish. In fact, one of our friends did that with his 2 year old son. I wouldn't consider him a "jerk" for doing so.

IIRC, it used to be required that you get off at the Main Midway station. They seemed to have dropped that rule though. They even announce that you may stay on when arriving at BOTH stations.
I agree with the comment that Jeff made a few posts back when he said Friday was crazy as well. I agree fully because it was pretty bad. Certainly not as bad as what Saturday sounded like, but still pretty crowded. It was unfortunate because not all the rides run of friday so people have to go to all the other lines and crowd them. Then, you only have 5 hours in the park to do things. The Fright Zone was crowded on Friday night as well. However, the fog machines were intense. There were certain points where you couldn't see a person 2 feet in front of you. I bumped right into a screamster and thought it was an actual guest because I couldn't see what I hit. I found out it was a screamster after he scared the crap out of me. The fog also made it to parts of the MF track and I rode it one last time around 11:00 p.m. and you could not see parts of the track. It was awesome. The line on the causeway to get into the park was insane. I thought there must have been an accident or something because I have never waited that long to get into the park. It was still a great evening and Cedar Point did a great job considering being understaffed. I got in line for MF with my g/f the minute we got into the park. The line wasn't too bad, but the yellow train did get stuck on the lift hill for about 10-15 minutes. I also believe they slowed the ride down temporarily while they put the Blue train on the track because they were only running two trains to start with. Employee's were saying that they weren't expecting a crowd this large for a friday evening. Just one of those indian summers that everyone waits for. The whole weekend sounded hectic, but it was still a great time. This just goes to show you that even when they are understaffed, CP still does a great job and the employee's don't get short with you, even though you can tell they are a little frustrated. Good Job CP.

I was on that yellow train that got stuck. The supervisor(s) that rode up the maintenance lift said it was a problem with a seatbelt either in the second row or second car. Will Millie stop on the lift if someone disconnects a seatbelt like it would on Mantis or Raptor?

On a side note: The ride ops at the end of the station closest to the lift hill were trying to get the controls operator to stop the train as soon as it began rolling out of the station.

Unfortunately, no roller coaster at cp will automatically stop because some idiot unbuckles their seatbelt. You were stuck because of a ride hosts attentiveness to safety. We visually check every seatbelt that leaves the station and we can manually stop the train. I saw your train stopped from the Mantis platform where I worked. If you ever see a Mantis train stopped near the bottom of the hill, it is because we call a hold.

Unfortunately, as I just found out recently, a situation like that on MF results in about 20 minutes of downtime. I'm not exactly sure of the reason why, but I think it has something to do with all three trains moving up at the same time, the drive wheels, proxies, etc. Maybe someone from their crew can explain better. I guess it's not real easy to get things going when you have a train half into load and a train half into unload.

If it is determined that someone took their seatbelt off on purpose, they are usually escorted from the park by security.

On Magnum if we see a seatbelt undone, we call a hold and hopefully, the station brakes can stop the train in the station, we fix the seatbelt, and dispatch the train again before we set up. This causes no downtime whatsoever. If the brakes don't stop the train, we wait until all of the train is on the lift and then stop the lift. At this point, we run out there and fix the belt, call park ops, wait for a call back from a supervisor, and then restart the lift. It is usually between one and two minutes of downtime in this case.

I guess this is another instance where a less compex ride is better! :)

I'm just wondering, if they have to stop a train on the lift, is it an E-Stop? Or do they have a lift stop button? I know with the Arrows to stop a train in the station you just have to lift up on the Dispatch button and hope that the brakes can stop the train. At Dragster if a hold legitimately needs to be called, the host will simply indicate his hold to the person at Launch Enable and not launch the train in question.

Millennium Force has an auto-stop. Not nearly as bad as an E-stop, but it does create quite a lot of downtime. The way the trains are moving, as the lift one stops near the bottom, the unload -> load train stops between drive wheels. I have seen some ride hosts having to push this train to get it to move onto the next drive wheel. I suppose they could let the other trains keep moving further, but then the lift train would get higher which would increase guest problems on the lift (nervousness, etc.) and cause even more of a scene.

But in short, it's just Auto-stop.

Ok, Dragster has the same. At every Remote Control there is an Auto-Mode Stop that just stops the trains from advancing to the next block but doesn't turn off the pumps, E-Stop does.

You sir, are wrong. And not only wrong but pretty much asking to be fired for releasing attendance figures to the public without permission.

If you notice even marketing/PR doesn't release #'s and it's also listed as a terminatable offense in your employee guidelines book.

Even funnier when you're wrong though.

Why can't that be public knowledge?

What time does the water show start?

Actually Rob, why didn't you criticize Chris Short for saying "It was finalized around 53,000"....? He works as well. I heard this from more then 10 employees that it was the high 50's and one said an exact number, people wanted to know how busy it was, maybe PR doesn't want it out but it seems alot of people know.

Does anybody know how many people were at the park this past Saturday? the 18th? The place was PACKED. Millennium Had Full Quenes, so did most other coasters...I waited in line for 30 minutes just to get a elephant ear. I also noticed that a lot of the park seems to be loosing selection on food. All three of the Homemade french fry places just had Regular or Garlic fries, no chili or cheese. A lot of other stands didn't have much selection either. I don't remember them running this low on food last year.
If you work at the park it isn't too hard to find out what the attendance figures are. I knew a secretary who kept a log on her desk in plain view with the hourly totals. It even showed what the year or two prior figures were for the same day. Full time managers discuss it around people, particularly if it is a good day, as if it were a badge of honor.

Why parks are so uptight about actual numbers is beyond me really. What is SFWoA or King's Island going to do if they find out CP had 53,000 on a given day?

"You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world...but it requires people to make the dreams a reality."

Well I was at the park this past saturday(18th October) and it really was'nt too bad.

Crowds were not too bad for the first few hrs then it started getting pretty crazy, however the ride crews were all superb today and all rides were running to maximum capasity(MF,Raptor,Iron Dragon,Mean streak,Magnum and the mine train were all running 3 trains between them and Dragster had all 6 trains out yet it was down to 5 trains sometime in the afternoon) so you couldnt have asked for more really.

Most of the main popular coasters were peaking at 1hr+, but by hitting some of the other coasters at the right times, it was possible to cut a lot of queueing time, for example I once queued up 15 mins for Iron Dragon at about 5PM,I went on Wildcat late in the evening and queued 15 mins,Disaster Transport was down to 15 mins later in the day as well. The Mine Train was also a short queue late in the day too. Corkscrew eventually became walk on late in the afternoon and Gemimi was 30 mins late in the evening.

The Haunted Mazes had good queue times, I queued up for the one at the Disaster Transport entrance(I forget the name) and queued 25 mins just just outside the entrance, Toxic Tunnel was around 20-25 mins as well. WareWolf Canyon was long and probably reached 1-2hrs

Really bad queues for food though(Lunch and dinner) worst offender was the Midway Market near Raptor, the queue reached quite some way out the door in the evening and was probably 30 mins or more wait. Johnny rockets had a long list of people waiting as well.

It certaintly was'nt as busy as the saturday before judging by the reports but there was still a good number of people at the park. I thought it was a fantastic evening anyway and very enjoyable. Loved the Fright Zone, very well done. Staff were on form and coped with the crowds very well, all lines were moving very fast. Park was spotless, and there was one terrific atmosphere around the place too.

What's really funny is that I said:

Brian Short said:
I heard attendance was finalized around 53,000 people...

You can take it like you want to. I am just repeating what I heard, not to be taken as fact or rumor. Anyone with a good eye and ear can figure out who's talking about attendance. There is a fine line between saying around 53,000 and exactly 52,864!

**EDIT - I have no clue if it is 52,864. Just a random number I picked off my head!!!**
