"Welcome back riders! How was your flight?"
On another note, thank you for all the positive feedback we've been getting from all the GTTP'ers. Even after being nearly assaulted everyday by guests, reading wonderful comments like this keep me going back every morning at 9:25.

On the other hand, I like them. To me, it re-enforces the fact that Cedar Point has been rated #1 so many times. Its a reminder as to WHY we're #1. I'm happy to be working for the best. I didn't drive 2,400 from my home in Oregon for nothing.
As for working conditions, I'm just fine with them. I'm not having any problems with my Supervisors this season (Its my second). Though I am annoyed by two people on my crew who never look happy. I'm not saying that I expect everyone to have a constant smile on your face (Cause you gotta face it, keeping a smile through your entire shift is an unrealistic expectation, especially when a guest is yelling at you because you told them that they couldn't bring their Dragster water bottle past the entrance and that it may not be left at the entrance), but I also expect them to not always look pissed off or depressed. When these two are around, it drags me down a bit. On the other hand, we got a couple on our crew who are just great and a real pleasure to work with. The time flies by when I'm working on the platform with these people.
In one of the Team Communications things, they said that Supervisors rate attitude higher than performance, because someone who has great performance but poor attitude will ruin the performance of others and the total performance level of the crew goes down. However, someone with a great attitude can make the rest of the crew happy and work better.

In my time, I've sent 6 or 7 of these same notes. I never expected anything in return. This is a great example of an employee VS guest mentality, and it shouldn't be VS. It should be employee/guest. Together. Let me be more descriptive...
Feeling that a guest sending a compliment is only an example of begging for freebies shows that your mentality toward our guests is one that goes along the lines of "they'll complain if we do ANYTHING wrong, and will only do something nice for us if it benefits them...guests are a pain in the butt."
You should feel that you've made SUCH a great impression upon that guest that they are taking time from their schedule, as an individual human being, and telling someone above you that they really felt as if this was a truly memorable experience to them. It truly touched them, and they know that jobs like this are tough...and they want us to know we're appreciated by them. That was my reason for writing such letters, and I hope that's how they were interpreted.
To anyone who thinks that complimentary/thank-you notes are a cry for a handout, please reconsider that stance. It kind of hurts me personally that anyone could interpret my (or another's) graciousness in wanting to show appreciation for a job well done.

He had a choice to send me home, be short-staffed (as I wouldn't have come back) and go by the rules or...
Let me work my last day, safely and effectively, with a slight goatee that would offend NOBODY except a Cedar Point Sup/Manager.
All things considered, Brian made the right choice and, in this case, supervision did not. I'm apologizing publicly, right here, to Brian for this crap. If I'd have known this would happen, I'd have just no-call/no-showed and made it EASIER on everyone. God forbid me wanting to help out by staying one more day.

Several years ago I was at the park with my son who was only 9 years old at the time. I made the mistake of not eating breakfast. It was in the 90's and extremely humid by 11 am. While waiting for friends outside the gates, I suddenly got dizzy. I told my son not to be concerned, but I HAD to sit down on the pavement. I no sooner did so, placing my head between my knees, and I suddenly had three CP employees by my side.
Because the carts don't fit through the entrance gates, they had to half carry me through, got me into a cart and over to first aid, all the while assuring my son I'd be okay. They gave me glucose, had me settled onto a cot and were basically all over me testing my temp, blood pressure, and when they were sure it was nothing more serious, they provided both me and my son sport drinks. I was back on the midways within an hour with a stern command to get some breakfast.
Hopefully you'll meet some employees to hang out with for the rest of the summer and will stick it out. You provide a valuable service.
