Food in the Park

I haven't eaten CP "food" for a couple of years (since I've been staying at LP and grilling my own). I'll be staying at HB in a couple of weeks and will be "forced" to.

I really am not looking forward to that part of my trip.

Food at the park is a "one time a year -blow it out -eat anything you want experience

If you're going to go crazy on food, at least find something worthwhile to pig out on. I'll admit, Macaroni's pizza is pretty tasty. But on the whole, I'd almost prefer to eat a McDonalds quarter pounder (and that says a lot) before I'd eat the majority of offerings at CP. If I'm going to blow out my food allotment for the day, it should at least taste good.

That said, I'd rather stick to my usual way of eating, even when I'm in the park...I'd like to continue to be able to ride all of the rides.

Put me down COMPLETELY on the side of "they need better healthy options".

I used to not care. For how often I went to the park, I was perfectly willing to get a cheese-on-a-stick and call it lunch. Hell, I looked forward to it.

Until I developed (what we believe is) gluten intolerance. I can't have anything containing wheat, barley, or rye. That eliminates pretty much every single thing at the park. Chicken strips? No. Fish? No. Pizza, funnel cake, CHoST, etc. You name it, the list goes on and on. "Burger no bun" isn't even really an option, because

a) I'm not going Atkins

b) Risk of fillers (see also hot dogs, and even "grilled" chicken breast!)

Basically, from what I recall of Cedar Point's food options, I can eat the popcorn and the french fries (but be careful which stand they come from, because if they're fried in the same oil as breaded food that can be enough)

You vegetarians have it easy ;)

BTW, it's estimated that as many as one in 100 Americans has it and doesn't know -- the severity of the symptoms varies widely. Do a google on "celiac sprue" if you're really curious. *** Edited 6/8/2004 11:59:57 PM UTC by GregLeg1***

GOT to pack own food when we got to the Po!nt! On the average I figure we have to save at least $40.00 a trip on food/pop alone by doing that. We go to the Po!nt about every 2 weeks, and make sure we eat on the way (Hardees!! :))

The ONLY time I will actually sat down and ate something other than elephant ears, funnel cakes, or fries at CP I've eaten the pizza. I will admit that I definitely chowed down BIG time in the employee caf, most of the meals they offered there were quite tasty and VERY VERY reasonable.

To me, the only thing that was worse than Disney's food was MGMs (yea I know, same thing really) and IOAs was God awful too. I don't mind spending $87.50 for a meal for the kids and I IF it is worth it, but their park food sucked (I'm not talking about all the little restaurant places at City Walk or in the parks-I mean just the average park foods/meals) I do not eat beef which eliminates some of my food choices.

So as a Po!nter, I don't eat at CP, and agree with most here that the food does suck. If I was going to eat something other than park food I think I would go to Johnny Rockets or Midway Market. But that's just me.

As for fries: Give me Kennywood!!! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

I never thought that when i started this thread this many people would respond. LOL. For all you vegetarians out there just do what I do. Pack some fruit or whatever you may want in a cooler and keep it inside your car. Deffinetly make sure you have lots of those freeze pack things to keep it cool, or if you come later at night stop at McDonalds on the causeway and pick up a salad before you enter the park. I do agree that some places should all some sort of salads or fresh fruit, but not all. Example: Chuck Wagon Inn. They have fried chicken and bar B Que chicken and such, they should have salads/fresh fruit.

Busch parks do have some excellent food, Sea World in Aurora was like that also.

I have to be one of the few on here though to say that the fast food in the park isn't that bad. It's about what I expect of fast food and they do have some good things (to me).

I like the burgers, they taste better than what I can make at home, though I don't know what that says about my culinary skills.

The Italian Sausage sandwiches by MF are very good, as are the Pulled Pork sandwiches at the Red Garter. Chicken Fingers are good and all three types of fries they sell are fine, yes even the generic fries satisfy my grease fix.

The Pizza tastes somewhat like cardboard, they could do much better with that.

The Ice Cream, Elephant Ears, Popcorn and other treats are all good.

I haven't been to many places that have fast food that is significantly better than CP's, some are much worse. Namely the Niagara Parks food in Niagara Falls Canada. A world wide attraction with the worst food. (blech!) Most of the baseball stadiums, zoos, arenas and parks I've been to have food similar to CP food.

So, I would say CP food is about what I expect. Normal, average fast food, but safe food that hasn't poisoned me in 42 years (unlike Denny's).

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Oh I might mention here, my hubby ADORES the grilled sausage/brat sandwiches made outside MF by the Old Time Photo place next to Red Garter. He has to stop there and get one every time we go. He says they are awesome and VERY filling.

As for me, I don't eat pork either so none for me!!

Jo, thanks for the heads-up on the grilled sausage. That, I CAN eat (without the bun), especially if they offer onions and peppers with it (at least there's SOME veggie in that)

Fast food inside CP suck ass, if any of you have ever been to Disney World, you know what i mean. A fast food joint just ruiens every thing within 500 ft. of it. At Disney, the smell of all the people that lined up for $5 fries smelt like the farm's in iowa. NO FAST FOOD.

So what are you trying to say? You take the money you get from memberships here at pointbuzz and the money from coasterbuzz. Buy yourself a plane ticket to Virgina. Get off the plane there rent a car or take a taxi. Pay more money from the sites. Then get a hotle room maybe go to to the park pay for parking. Pay for addmition then go in and eat some food just to turn around and go back to the hotle (only if you are staying for another day of eating) or go back to the airport. But have to stop for gas in the rental car. get back on the plane and go home.

What the hell are you talking about? What does it have to do with food?

That was the funniest post I've read! Thanks, Magnum Jeff.

Seriously, thanks to everyone else for voicing opinions about the food debacle. For a while, I thought I was the only one who hated CP food. All that fried crap is good for an occasional "treat" but if I spend a decent amount of time there I don't want it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And with the growing rate of obesity, diabetes and heart disase in this country, you should be wary of eating it too!

When we stay in Lighthouse Point, we do bring our own food and only eat the occasional fry or elephant ear in the park. Packing food for a day-trip is not real convenient. You have to leave the park and the food you bring isn't hot for fresh. It's usually sandwiches or something else that won't spoil in a hot car all day.

I know, more complaining. :)

Most of the food at CP is horrible. With the exception of fries w/ketchup soaked with vinegar-ONLY from Mr. Potato, The large hot pretzels-but you can find the same exact ones at any mall in the country, and funnel cakes. I won't eat anything else there. I bring an ice filled cooler with sandwitches, and COKE. I drank Pepsi last year, only because it is well worth being free with a $10 Dragster souviner cup if you go there 30+ times in a season. I still have 3 Dragster cups that I have them fill with ice water---the cups are 40oz, the $2-(or is it $2.50?) bottles of Aquafina are only 20oz, and that is with no ice. 99% of the time that I go...at LEAST twice a week, I don't have to spend a dime, except for the few gallons of gas that it takes to get there.

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

a little off the subject (but still on the subject of food in the park) does anyone agree that the price for soda's from the machine in the que's are a little ridiculous (sp?) I haven't been there in two years but i remebered that in 2002 the prices for sodas where like 3 or 4 dollars. Oh and CurrentlyDownDueToFillInTheBlank, why carry water with you when the park gives you water for free. If any amusement park/theme park sells food in the park they have to give you water; in a cup with ice; for free, its a law.

I've been hearing some stuff from the Lemon Chill guy lately, you wanna hear what he told me?

I don't think it's law, it CP courtesy.

Oh and CurrentlyDownDueToFillInTheBlank, why carry water with you when the park gives you water for free.

I do carry water with me, I said in my previous post that I have them fill my Dragster cups with water with ice because the price of bottled water is ridiculous. Plus they hold 40oz instead of 20oz. I bought the cups last year. I would rather drink water than Pepsi anyday! I bring a couple cans of Coke and keep them in a cooler with ice. But I do have to say: The $2.00 is well worth the price of a refill because like you said, the soda prices are way too igh!

Let's go straight to the Merry-Go-Round!

OH, my bad, sry CurrentlyDownDueToFillInTheBlank :) and Mr. Scott, if you go to any amusement park or Theme park or even a regular resteraunt its a rule/law that they have to give you free water. Because every amusement park i've been to, i always ask for water and they give it to me for no cost. *** Edited 6/12/2004 7:04:59 PM UTC by Guy with a name***

If i was looking for healthier foods, I would go to Fridays. They have a list of different vegitarian meals on the menu. I always go to Fridays because they have free refills unlike some of the "restaraunts" inside the park. I also think that you get more food for the dollar and I always get good service.

Although, I do like most of the food that I get in the park it is all just to expensive. I know that the prices are never going to change and im fine with that. So thats why i only get a basket of fries(sometimes chili cheese fries) every once in awhile.

I would never drink lake water the thought of fish swiming around in it just days before i drink it just gives me goosebumps and makes me want to regergitate. :P *** Edited 6/15/2004 3:25:55 AM UTC by TUBBY***
