I have a question about employee transportation. I know about the big blue bus, and I also know it stops running at night. What happens if you're a third shift worker, though? Are you just out of luck?
This probably won't affect me as I'll likely be living in Gold and working at Breakers, but a friend of mine will be working midnight-8am and is curious about how to get from point A to point B.
Employees who are openers are arriving from commons starting around 7 am everyday. So the morning is no problem. Neither is the nighttime around midnight. If your stuck on point after the last bus leaves for the day (around 2am I do believe). I was always offered a ride by CP security. While it rare to need this, they would either drive me or arrange for me to be picked up.
If you get stuck off point after 2am, I would make friends and find a place to crash. Last thing you want is to talk to security after a long night at Louie's or anywhere like it. Then your better off getting the $5-$7 cab ride. If you can find one. There are pretty easy to find during the season.

If I'm gonna live in the Commons dorms and am taking my car with me, how early would I have to leave in order to get to work on time through the traffic?
Depends on the day and where you're working. I'd usually try to leave half an hour before I was supposed to be there but there were plenty of times it didn't take that long.

Generally I would leave a bit more time on Saturdays. Most other days traffic wasn't an issue. Always look for the far left lane (left of the double yellow line) to be open. The guests never use it because it's left of the yellow line, even though the cones clearly indicate that it's ok to drive over there.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
The only traffic issues you are likely to experience are if you have a closing shift and you're going into work when the parking lot is already pretty full. Those days you either need extra time for hunting for a spot in employee parking or walking from the back of the lot. Sitting and waiting on the Causeway for more than a few minutes is pretty unheard of unless there is an accident or you're going in at peak time (about an hour after gates open).

^^^^ You should never be on the causeway that long, unless you are planning on showing up to work at 10-12. Then you might have a problem. I usually drive on the causeway at about 9 for early ride time and it's never taken longer than 10 minutes to get all the way down the causeway and around perimeter road.
