Employee Requirements

i have a few questions, im a freshman in hs

how old do you have to be to get a job, and if there are different ones, tell me?

how do i get an application?

how cool is it working there?

hows the pay, and can you get promoted?
14 is a light green tag and dark green is 16 + and 18+ is Red or blue. If you are green tag then you can only work in certain places, games is where most of the green tags are, but you can't work there if you don't live close to the point. the won't house you unless you are graduating high school or are 18. Working at the point is awesome, great friends and time at the greatest amusement park in the world. applications can be filled out online at www.cedarpoint.com

For pay information, check out the website, and yes, you can be promoted but it isn't all that common what with 4,000+ seasonal employees and only so many supervisor positions.

The different jobs are all the different departments, rides, stores, etc. Suggestion: get an application just to look at it, even if you can't do it yet!

what type of work goes on in food services? I am 15 1/2 and want to work there this summer.
Trust me you don't wanna work in food services. Wait until you are 18 to work in Park Operations. Hell, I think Six-Flags hires 16 year olds for rides.
Mantis, have you ever worked in Food Services...my guess would be no. I have for six years and granted, its not the best job in the world, but neither is sitting there with your thumb up all day checking lap bars. I happen to like my job and my department that I work for, and instead of advising people away from a job that you may not have ever done, why don't you just stick to the department that you know and either promote it or not.

Matt- it sounds like you would really like to work at Cedar Point, and foods is a great place to start. You would only work about 33 or so hours a week, and then would have free reign of the park any other time. You could work in catering (where you would set up for parties and things like that), quick service (a fast food stand where you would most likely be running a register or cleaning a patio), or in restaurants (most likely for bussing purposes). You also would be eligible to be involved in the many activites that the Employee Services Department has to offer. I don't know firsthand what it is like to be a minor and to work at Cedar Point, but I do know a few minors who liked it so much that they ended up working there full time years down the road. Good luck in your further investigations, maybe we will see you (name tag and all) one day!

Of course Matt depending on when you turn 16, you would be permitted by law to work more hours, as well as being able to do more things in the stands, including many cooking and preparation procedures...

If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail me, luball25@yahoo.com

It just so happens that Mantis has over the shoulder restraints, not lap bars. Everyone has their own preference and I must agree with you that starting off in foods would be an OK choice as long as you got a decent food job. I like rides because their is plenty of guest interaction; whether it be negative or positive.
My apologies for the inaccurate statement regarding lap bars instead of shoulder harnesses. Being that I do not like rollercoasters nor have I ever worked for Park Operations, this is why I choose to keep my statements and opinions about other departments to a minimum. I can say that Food Services does have quite a bit of guest interaction as well! As far as getting "a decent food job", I guess that is all in the eye of the employed. However, I would have to say that no matter what department a minor (or any other employee) ends up in, working at Cedar Point is definitely an experience that shouldn't be passed up!

what's the line again?
Hey Matt, I have worked in Park Op and Foods.. I have work coasters with lapbars and coasters with shoulder restraints.. I have worked in GREAT jobs in Foods and good jobs in Foods.. I can honestly say that if you want a great job where you will work with great people who take extreme pride in their division, while having a lot of fun at work that you will love working in Foods. I, too, used to have the mentality that foods wasn't any fun and that Rides was the only place that was good to work.. but almost all the jobs are fun at CP.. and I can HONESLTY say that because I have worked in every division except for Games. Heck.. I even cleaned restrooms.. and I left the coasters to do that! and yes.. I had a blast!
and.. if you are looking for guest interaction.. Foods has more guest interaction and more of an opportunity to provide outstanding guest service than most divisions in the park. Employees in Foods have the opportunity to speak one on one with each and every guest they come into contact with.
Working in foods is a good place to start out for minors. It's good experience dealing with all of the different types of people. It's good especially if you're a minor. If you can handle working in foods for an entire summer than you can work anywhere. It can be demanding, and stressfull work at times but the rewards are worth it. I worked in foods at the Point for two summers (97, 99).

I have to agree with Jenn and Heather, I worked in foods in the summer of 99 and at first i thought it was hard, but then i started meeting cool people and work was actually fun to go to, i had a blast at work evreyday, and the people i worked with are lifelong freinds, i still keep in touch with them, although they live in europe so i can't just drive and see them!! so if you decide to take a job in foods stick with it and you will have one of the best summers of you life!!!!
Another comment to Mantis.. you do not need to be 18 to work in Park Operations. Only in the Rides Department and some of the Challenge park and Soak City positions. There are 11 other departments in Park Op and some of them hire employees under the age of 18
I agree with Heather and Jenn and everyone else. Though, I too, have spent all of my Cedar Point time in Food Services. I can honestly say, that I have had no desire to work in any other division. The people you meet in Foods are amazing, that's the support that keeps you coming back each and everyday. Jenn is right, we do take extreme pride in our division and it is an amazing thing to experience. I'll tell you why I had such a great experience in foods. When Jenn hired me for the 98 season, I had no idea what I was getting myself into or what to do. But I had great co-workers, awesome supervisors, and a fantastic area manager :) I went into the job with an open mind, and that is what made it the best summer of my life (well, one of the three ;)) And who ever would have thought that, me, as shy as I was on my first day, would be where I am now? Its worth it. :)

Way back before I even applied to work at CP (whoa that was long time ago), I swore to myself that I would never step foot into the foods industry. I was being a prissy snob about it :) But after serious cosideration, well I guess it was more of the thought of one of my best friends possibly being my "blue tag" at skyride, I decided to tell the person who interview me that I wanted to work at skyride.

Well as life goes....she got promoted to work over at coasters off point. AND I HAD THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE! Gee look at me going on to my 4th season (you know what they say when reach your 5th YIKES). Well atleast the good thing is that every summer is even better than the one before.

Hey since we are on the subject of food...Is the TGIF Friday's on Cleveland Road owned by Cedar Point?
I know that the Radison is owned by Cedar Fair, in a round about way, so I think that the TGI Fridays is also owned by CF.

And on the working in foods or ride Ops, I've worked in rides for three years and have been quite happpy with it. I haven't worked in foods at CP, but I have worked at a McDonalds and I did not like it at all.
