Demon Drop ran on a track, too, definitely "coasted".

First impulse, no way was Demon Drop a coaster. But, well, yes.... a mechanism lifts the ride vehicle to a high point on the ride, and gravity takes care of the rest, and that's what coasters do. Then again, the same is true of my favorite sides of Power Towe, but I certainly don't consider PT to be a coaster.

I think Demon Drop fits the definition of a full circuit coaster perfectly. Lift hill to the top, gravity drop, brakes and then kicker wheels to the station where the independant cars travel an out and back course. Pretty much exactly what coasters do.

Power Tower is not gravity operated, it's controlled the entire way. Sort of like an elevator gone wild, all of its movement comes from the cables that are controlled by the propulsion system.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I suppose that's true. Still though, a roller coaster is kinda like porn. It's hard to define explicitly, but you know you're looking at one when you see it.

Not sure if trying to be funny, or actually serious. Considering how off topic you are, I find your post to be spammy ;)

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me in the least that you are ignorant of this kind of thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_know_it_when_I_see_it

Fact of the matter is, many "coasters" fall into this category of descriptive ambiguity. You can put all the criteria you want around something, yet still have polarizing arguments as to what something is, or is not.

One-fifth of the fun of being an enthusiast is arguing over details. :-)

Your ad hominem attack on my knowledge and education after comparing a coaster to pornography is quite hilarious to me.

Aside from that, I'm curious to know how manufacturers determine whether a non full circuit ride is a coaster or not. for example, many would argue that WT is not a coaster, but Intamin markets it as an "Impulse" coaster. If it has track, wheels, brakes, and it coasts, does that officially make it a coaster?

I think most would agree that a coaster doesn't have to complete a full circuit in order to be a coaster. A coaster is a ride that mechanically places ride vehicles in motion, thereafter gravity does the rest. So Wicked Twister is launched into motion, but gravity brings the train back down from the spikes.

As Pete notes above, Demon Drop fits the definition of a coaster; but it's not an option for your track record at Coasterbuzz.

Cedar Point counts Pipe Scream as a coaster. ACE (and likely many here) disagree.

The devil is in the details. :-)

I believe the earliest roller coasters were just a track going down a hill that they had to pull back up again.

Just had to add how amusing it is that there are multiple sellers on ebay trying to sell "rare" Mean Streak patches for about $20 a piece right now. Not the old ones, the ones that were still stocked in the gift shops when I was there 2 weeks ago...can't blame them for trying I guess.

I picked up 5 of the new ones on the day of the announcement.

I saw some 'obsolete' keychains last week in Pagoda on a rotating rack,CP must have found some 'buried' warehouse stock-MANTIS.

Last time we were at the park my husband found me an old Mean Streak key chain different from the one I already have that looks like it's been sitting in a box for years.

Don't know how I missed them last year, but saw my first Valravn patch this year at Park Plaza gift shop by the front gate. Also did anyone catch the retro patches that CP released this year? Very cool! I saw 6 new ones including: White Water Landing, Rotor, Wildcat, Avalanche Run, Oceana, and Jumbo Jets. I hope the park decides to keep doing those. I wouldn't mind seeing a Pirate ride logo, Earthquake, Mill Race, Demon drop. I could go on and on...hahahaha.

Edit: forgot to mention, saw 4 new vintage T-shirts available on the back wall of the Pagoda gift shop: The Blue Streak, Wildcat, Avalanche Run, and White Water Landing. Very nice CP! Keep up the great work!

I already picked up WWL, Wildcat, Avalanche Run and Oceana. I didn't grab Rotor or Jumbo Jet since I'm only putting things I've ridden on my jacket but may get them later just to save. I'm loving the retro stuff. Got myself the new Blu Streak shirt too it's awesome. My 14 year-old is really attracted to the stuff with the 1980s logos.

It's my favorite. That logo really takes me back- last season the Hat Rack was selling merch with that logo in neon pink, green, and blue. The shirt I got from that collection is ridiculously comfy, and I'll totally get another if they have them again this season.

Proud 5th Liner and CP fan since 1986.

I was at both Kings Island and Cedar Point during my week long trip and saw those new vintage CP patches. Pretty cool stuff. I only really want to buy patches for things I've ridden and liked, and have limited myself to one per annual trip. Snagged Valravn last year, and Rougarou this year. One thing I found very strange was that Kings Island didn't have patches, but ride pins (I ended up getting Mystic Timbers) and Cedar Point doesn't have ride pins, but patches. I figured since they were both Cedar Fair parks they would have very similar merchandise options.

There may be various factors in play. Perhaps Cedar Point guests are more likely to buy patches and Kings Island guests more likely to buy pins.

The Jewel Osco* on Howard Street in Evanston has a separate a kosher deli and a broad selection of kosher products, while the Jewel Osco on 95th in Oak Lawn does not. Catering to your market is profitable.
