Dragster cable snaps

TekGuy's avatar
Olympic10086 called me about an hour ago. Says the cable on Dragster has snapped, and is now currently wrapped around various parts of the ride.

Park Ops was not able to provide information as to what exactly caused it, how long it will be down, or if the ride will be back up in time for Coastermania.

(Here's hoping he's kidding!)

Well looking at he web cam and being that it is 8:53 pm and the park does not close till 10:00 pm, the line is completely empty. I checked it about an hour ago and it was empty as well.
I thought that ride should've been closed.

Same here anonymous, I think they should have shut down the ride for a week or 2 and fixed everything up. The news just keeps getting worse and worse. There goes a week or 2 of operation right there.

Why? What expertise do you have to make any such comment? Some of you annoy the piss out of me with these ridiculous, unfounded statements.

I figured it would happen eventually, just not this soon. Oh well, it should be reasonably easy to fix since none of the ride is terribly high off the ground. Unless they broke something in the process, I bet they're up tomorrow.

I don't think they should shut it down. I just hope CP and Intiman can get all these bugs worked quickly and prove what a great ride and ultimate park this is.
Umm why should it have closed?

I was standing in line on the ramp when it happened. I heard a noice and turned around to see what looked like cables swing from the middle of the track to the outside and hang down. My first thought was that the cable snapped but it was about a half hour before we were told anything and had to get out of line.

Replacing the cable every three weeks will get expensive, Jeff. It doesn't take an expert to know that.

I thought it would have been a smart idea to close the ride to avoid angry guests complaining about waiting hours in line for a ride they were told would have a much shorter wait, plus the fact that flying tires and snapping cables aren't exactly good for business. No expertise needed there, either.

Jeff, it's merely an opinion of mine. I will keep it to myself now so as to avoid upsetting you.

If the cable snapped where will they get a new one, if intamin has the only kind of catchcar that TTD needs than it could be a while before a new one gets here.
Yea, I think it would be safe to close it down and fix it up so CP would avoid injury. Just imagine if that tire fell off onto the queue line. It is simply just an opinion. They had 2 major incidents in 24 hours.

I know that they are different cables and such, but how long did it take to ship a new one over for MF??

Jeff, I hope you are right! I have three trips there in the next 6 days, although one is pending. I was heading up there Wednesday to get my season pass processed, then possibly again Saturday, and then again next Tuesday. I live too far away to just change my plans before looking on here. I know that there is more to ride there and everything, but this really ruined my evening. If they do not get it fixed by then, I'll have to wait until I return from Australia to get back to the Point and then it will still be difficult. I hope and pray they had a spare cable at the park. Did not something similar happen with Xcelerator a few weeks after it opened, or am I imagining things?

Oh you guys have got to be kidding....Dragster's cable sanpped? Has anyone been able to talk to anyone at the park as far as when it will reopen? There was obviously a train running when this happened...did the train just roll back? I am sure Intamin will get this figured out...as far as the cable snapping after 3 weeks...granted that is a short time span, which makes me think the cable was defective from the get-go. I have full faith in C.P. , Intamin and the Maint. People at Cedar Point. This will not keep me from riding this coaster. As for shutting it down, I don't fully agree with that...more or less things happen...granted it isn't good but they do...This will all get worked out and this will be Cedar Points 16th Safe Coaster....Lets just all be thankful that from what I heard, noone was hurt, and hope this great ride gets back up and running soon

If that is the case, Forcedude04, than I would assume a spare cable is ready and available. If they get that repaired, and they take off the wheels, I suppose Dragster could theorectically be opened soon. When will they work on a stronger, more durable cable or decide what to do with the tires, I have no idea.

I would think if it rolled back into the cable it could possibly have hurt the train.

Snapping cables and flying, are things that were unexpected, well kind the cable was expected to snap but just soo soon wasn't expected. Many people have ridden this ride and know it is great, CP will fix this problem in a timely manor, or they just might sue intamin for the problems. This wioll be a record year for CP not doubt about it, with or without TTD. Besides closing rides isn't what Seven Flags parks...i mean Cedar fair parks due, they fix the problem, safely and quickly. MFers cable snapped in 2000 i believe no biggie it is still there and they had to go up 310 feet in the air!
