Actually the last time it broke they had it up within the day...It has broken 3 times this year, I believe.
The experience you had, Richland3Firefighter, is the reason why so many of the good employees won't be returning next year. Some things that go on there defy all logic and there is usually no direct line of communication between the people the experience things first hand (ride ops) and the people who can actually get things done (directors and managers). There also seems like there is a lack of communication from supervisors to upper management.
There was one such instance our crew all knew about this year, and we pointed it out to maintenance several times. This went unresolved for probably a month and a half until Oz was at the ride one day and we decided to show him. Naturally within 30 minutes he had every maintenance man and their brother there to remedy the situation.
For some reason maintenance just wouldn't listen to what we had to say. Maybe it was staffing problems or even laziness, but it's just so aggravating as a ride op when you see something wrong and no one will do anything to fix it, even though you write it down on the night maintenance logs every night.

Stupid things happen all of the time, but out of context the employee could be just as much of a jerk. Not passing judgment here, just that it's really hard to take anything seriously said by a former employee posting anonymously.

Then I had my intelligence insulted (How?..by this question.."Are you sure there is a brake on these cars?"..I went to school for auto/diesel mechanics, I know what a brake is)
Off course both the Cadillac Cars and Turnpike Cars have brakes. As kids, we had fun by pulling up hard on the pedal with the top of our feet, to lock up the wheels and skid.
Are you sure you are not being a little too sensitive to the manager's question? I bet many people don't know about the brake, since the car has no separate brake pedal. Maybe it was an honest question, and they were asking you because they thought you had expertise in the matter? Two sides to every story.

Do I even need to say anything more at this point?

Actually, I never said in the thread that the ride was down for the season - I just laughed at your comment about seasonals knowing nothing. I also posted in the thread that it was probably going to be up this weekend many days after I knew and before you posted it in the news. Need I say anything more? *** Edited 10/11/2004 5:59:32 PM UTC by Michael19887***

You were backing the guy up. I told you he didn't know anything. Laugh it up all you want. He was wrong.

I know no one's going to support me on this, but I would still like to thank Cedar Point and the maintenance crew for giving us back another few MPH on Wicked Twister - perhaps one day we'll actually get back to 72 MPH.
The entire wheel carriage of the front car now clears the splice point for the top piece of the front tower on swing number 4. Great to see from the midway, and of course, even better from the front seat!

They didn't change anything. And it's always gone 72 on the last pass backwards, despite what rumors there are.
Ride Op '02-'07
I'm not sure if they changed the net speed climbing into the spikes on any given pass, but I do sincerely believe that they changed some aspect of the firing sequence because it feels a lot different than the last time I rode a couple of weeks ago.

Like I said, many will swear up and down that it's the same, but the first week the ride was open, the front wheel carriage got as close to the "plunger" as S:UE/SV gets.
After that first week, it was down for some time, and since then, the front wheel carriage has never made it past the splice for the last piece of the track on the front spike, and the back carriage wheels split the splice on the back spike.
On Sunday, the front wheel carriage completely cleared the splice point, and the second carriage from the end almost caught the splice on the back spike.
Thanks for being just about the only person who believes/supports me on this Jeff ;)

I also thought the train was going a little higher, especially on the 2nd backwards pass.

Can please someone tell what the heck the splice is? I'm guessing the top piece of track on each spike but I've never heard of that term.

Splice is where two pieces come together, in this case, the last two sections of track. If you look at the track probably ... 40-50 feet below the "plungers" on either side of the spikes, you'll notice that the cross-frames are doubled-up. That's where the two pieces of track are attached together.
For reference: track about to be spliced together Link
