You saw the overdraft fees on your statement, but the problem being, all the balances in your statement were positive? That's how all my problems happened. The dates on my statement were not matching up, with my register, in Quicken, or their Online system. WHat I saw on their online system were deposits being held. What I saw in the statements were deposits being deposited the next day. When I took in my register, a printout of their online system, and a quicken print out, they laughed at me. I asked the teller about the positive overdrafts, and they explained it as such.
" Because my debit which was shown on the official statement as being processed the day after my deposit, and before the deposit it would have caused an overdraft, they charged the overdraft." I was like Hello..... Does that make sense.
Why get charged cause it could have happened. There is a deposit for a reason. I think it's more of a case of the computer correcting the discrepency by the bank depositing late. But of course they have the policy, which I was told many times, "Absolutly under no circumstances will an overdraft charge be returned even if it is the banks fault."
I think all of us who complained here, should compare our papers to see how many similarities there are.
I enjoyed my account better when I opened it. At that time the bank was Firstar. I didn't have a single problem with them. I saved more money under Firstar than I did when they either merged or were bought out by US Bank. I hate to blame the bank, but sometimes the bank holds the red flag out in front of you to say hey we're guilty.

You always have an option tho... If you're willing to give up your checking acct priviledge at ANY bank for the next 5 years - you can just wait it out and that 1,000$ will disappear. Contrary to whatever they told you, bank fees will NOT go on your credit report. You will just be blacklisted from opening a checking acct at any bank for the next 5 years.
Same thing happened to me when away at school. They were sending notices that i was overdrawn to my house, so i had no clue because i was in a different city. When i came home the next break, i opened a letter and went to the bank where they told me i owed 400$. The teller told me to close my acct and the daily fee would stop. Did i ever pay the money...hell no. I tried 3 times to open a checking acct in the couple years after, all banks telling me there was some discrepancy with Charter One bank and i'd need to fix that before i could open an acct at their bank. (i WAS allowed to open a savings tho) I ordered a credit report, nothing about charter one bank or that 400$ was on it. So i went to another bank and asked the lady why it wasnt on my report and she explained its just a bank blacklisting and doesnt affect my credit.
If you wanted to go that route ($1,000 is a ton of money to just give away!!!) i'd recommend opening a checking at another bank really soon and plan on keeping that acct for the next few years.
Also another thing about US Bank... make sure you change you're acct to free checking once you set it up. You'd think that would be automatic, but noooo. The first month last year i was just a food runner, so i'd get checks everyweek and they'd be direct deposited into my acct. Then i started serving. You're really lucky if you get a check at all if you're a server, usually you end up paying cedarpoint for housing out of your pocket...well the checks stopped getting direct deposited. Next time i looked at my statement there was a 10$ fee. .. so i went in and asked what was up. They said that i was being charged 10$ per month because my direct deposit stopped... i explained that i was still a cp employee, etc. They said they'd change my acct to free checking, adn refunded the 10$.
There are no US banks in buffalo, so i left $1 in the acct. so i wouldnt have to deal with opening another acct and waiting for a new card this summer...and i use citibank here. I havent had any prob with my 1 dollar balance all winter.
