I'm digging up this thread because I was surprised and happy to see DD in operation in 2007! The way this sucker pushes you out over the edge and lets you hang a few seconds...it still makes me nervous after 20 years of riding it. The way you end up FLAT on your back. The noises. It's one of a kind. I got my 7 year old kid to ride it, we were the first two riders of the day! (5/20/07)
It's great to share the exact same ride with your kid that scared you as a kid! Thanks to Cedar Point for keeping many of these older rides around!
Does anyone still allow pennies to "float" on your knees on DD? Is that allowed? Was it ever?
I would assume it is still for sale.

I rode it 12 times with my 7 year old son in May 2007. Seemed to be running fine. And best of all very little or no line at all.
A true classic, I first rode it at Six Flags Great Adventure, known as "Freefall", in 1985 and for a 15 year old kid at the time, that was one scary first ride.
I for one hope it stays, never can get over that plunge :).
Wow I don't think I had ever heard that. That would be mighty painful to be in a car that fell from the top.
My 2 cents on Demon Drop; if it's not standing in the way of any plans for improvement then just let it stand and ride. While it's certainly passed its prime as a concept, I swear the drop on Demon Drop is more intense than Power Tower, but that could be my imagination.

The SF accident happened back in the 80s. 1984 I believe? After it did, the ride that crashed was removed and the remaining Gen1 Freefall rides installed lock bars as well as a computer locking safety mechinism so that:
1. The car would never be able to fall down the elevator side
2. If there were ever 2 cars on the same section of track, elevator or freefall side, A sensor would engage and freeze the ride from the operator and the freefall bars could not be engaged to drop a car until the track is cleared.
I actually researched the crash in question over the winter. My comp has since crashed so I no longer have the link to the exact article, but that was the jist of it.
R.I.P. MrScott... You're greatly missed!!
