Damn Yankees

Bud Light is my light beer of choice and the beer I stock the most mainly for the reasons the Exit English mentioned. Of course I prefer craft beers and IPA's, but for me those aren't "everyday drinking beers." I save those for more special occasions like my visit to CP this weekend. One good by-product of this "boycott" (for me anyway) is they seem to resort to nearly giving Bud Light away now. I've seen the rebates go from $5, to $10, to now $15 (on a 24 pack) and they don't seem to limit how many you can claim.

Here's some marketing of the past.

It’s mutually beneficial. They have been wonderful supporters, allies, and sponsors.
I’d like to ask Cousin Eddy what he drinks, and then be the first to inform him that most/all beverage companies have aligned themselves with LGBTQ+ and other minorities. Also when he says he’s dropped Bud Light “because of it”, I’d like to know because of what? Yeah, I know, Freedom. But there’s got to be something else.

This is the thing that I don't get. We all have only so many drinks left, why not drink the good stuff? Granted, bars and restaurants are sometimes to blame. I was reminded on my Ohio visit last month that "rum" means Captain and Malibu to most people, and that's unfortunate.

There is something else...hate, bigotry, disgust, religious views, etc. It's pretty obvious why these people boycott "woke" companies. They think they are interfering in their lives. They think they are pushing an agenda. They think they're trying to to turn them and their children gay. They out themselves. They can't help but wear their bigotry like a badge of honor. It's embarrassing.

Because of my beliefs/faith, that's all. We're all human, we all can believe in what we believe. Luckily we live in a country/society that allows us to choose what we believe in. I am just thankful we live where we live, have the right to choose what we choose and are not shunned for what we believe in.

^ Jeff, I'd say it boils down to calories for the most part and ABV as far second. I'm trying fit on coasters better, and drinking craft beer everyday isn't going to help that cause. That's not to say I don't drink good stuff at home, I rotate crafts too but don't drink as much of it as Bud Light. Example I'm from MI and it's summer, so I've currently got Oberon in my fridge along with the Bud Light. I'll have one of those first and then a couple Bud Lights after on a typical weekday.

On weekends when I go out I usually go to places that have a good craft selection and enjoy those at their best, on tap. I'm happy that CP has really upped their craft beer game, especially at the new joint. If I had a kegerator I'd probably drink a lot more craft beer at home, but I'm afraid to get one for the same reason. I couldn't agree with you more on the rum, being from the north really sucks in that regard.

Welp... didn't take long for this thread to turn into metaphorical feces throwing extravaganza with a good measure of politics, personal beliefs, and insults thrown in.

Cousin Eddy- either you’re not saying it or you don’t understand my question. I’d still like to know, because of what? We all have faith and beliefs. So what about this has come along as an affront to yours? I mean, right now you sound like someone who wants to deny certain freedoms while standing behind Freedom as a justification. Your “We’re all so lucky to live in America where we’re free to be you and me” is falling flat.

As I understand it, he previously didn't drink it because it's not good beer, and now doesn't drink it due to his "beliefs", whatever those are.

I don't believe in that life style. Just because I don't agree or believe in the lifestyle does not make it wrong, it's your choice as it is my choice to live the lifestyle I believe in. That's all. Do your beliefs make you a bad person absolutely not, it makes you who you are. I don't think ANY lifestyle should be pushed or promoted. Just sell me your product for what it is.

As a parent I just don't like the social media and large companies shoving beliefs into my kids head. I wish big companies would just sell the product for what it is and not take sides in anything. Go back to using frogs who always made me laugh growing up. Bud.......Weis......Er........ or the Clydesdales.

But to my point earlier, freedom allows them to do what they want as well. As a consumer we have freedom to not support them or to get behind them.

I'm just glad CP is staying out of it. The way all companies should IMO.

You have just described the entire western world. The US is not special in this regard. In fact, the US comes in 7th in the Economic Freedom Index, 15th in the Human Freedom Index, and 24th in the Personal Freedom Index. Reality check: everyone in every country is taught when they’re young that they live in the “best country in the world” but the US is far from it in many many respects.

That would imply it is a choice myself and others have made to live as a queer person. Because the "good stuff" has a different meaning depending on the circumstance. I like a dark heavy beer but I don't want to drink that while hanging out on the pontoon boat on a hot summer day. In that situation Bud Light Lime is the good stuff for me.

And if I am on vacation hanging out at the beach all day then the good stuff is Malibu/Cruzan with Squirt as the mixer. That makes for some pretty tasty beach water as my family calls it.

So "shoving beliefs into your kids head" by acknowledging the mere existence in society of people who aren't cis, white and straight is bad.... but an adult oriented, addictive product having a marketing campaign geared (to a large extent) to attract the attention of children (something that seems to have succeeded based on your childhood recollection) is OK?

Agreed. Have you tried summer or lemon shandy? That's my go-to when it's too hot outside for, say, a heavy IPA or lager or what-have-you.

If LGBTQ want to boycott then they have that right as well. It speaks volumes on what is happening to Target and Bud Light and where the majority of American stands. Just look at the hit's these companies are taking, the numbers are staggering.

God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve....it is a lifestyle.

My best man in my wedding was gay, he has told me many many times he choose his lifestyle. Do I think of him as any lesser of a person, nope. So, no I am not ignorant.

What you're describing is by definition willful ignorance. And I can't believe you're using the "but I have gay friends" angle, or that he speaks for all the gays. Yikes.
