Damn Yankees

Budweiser products have been systematically removed from Cedar Point. Had a nice discussion with our bartender at the Red Garter Saloon about the quiet removal throughout the park. Her expression said it all as we briefly discussed its absence. Bartender at the Last Chance Saloon said "good luck finding anything Bud Light related at this park".

Ted Nugent (Damn Yankees) must be doing cartwheels in his camouflaged speedo at this news.

My hope and expectation is that Cedar Point isn’t participating in the foolish boycott of products. However, I fear the removal may be triggered by fear of loss of sales or having to deal with people who would unfairly protest against the park and cause a certain kind of trouble for them. Which I suppose counts as a form of backlash.

I've been out of the loop but I have a feeling I'm not going to do my brain cells any favors by looking up whatever controversy is actually going on. That being said, questionable endorsements or otherwise nonwithstanding... it's Budweiser. There's plenty of better beer out there, and if there's indeed a quiet waiting-for-the-controversy-to-blow-over going on, heck, use it as a chance to promote more local breweries, there's certainly plenty of them in NEO and they've nearly all got a superior product. And if a park guest wants beer, I have a feeling they're not going to forego it because of a lack of Bud or Busch.

That's draft dodger and child molester Ted Nugent to you, sir! Put the respect on his name he deserves.

Bigoted snowflakes are "cancelling" Bud Light. Not because they discovered that it's piss water masquerading as a beverage fit for human consumption, but because of a meaningless marketing choice made by the company. Actually, that's not accurate. These snowflakes are "cancelling" Bud Light because someone online told them they should be outraged about the marketing choice, and because they can't think for themselves, here we are.

I talked to the bartender at the new bar that replaced walking tacos in the front of park near the legacy bricks. Anyway, he said that the park entered into an agreement with Millercoors over the off season. That's why we're seeing Miller products all over the place now instead of Bud Light.

I have yet to find draft Bud Light anywhere but many of stands (near Back Beat and Farmhouse come to mind) do have the 24oz tallboy cans.

^ Honestly this simply being new beer partnership seems much more likely than Cedar Point picking sides in an ideological pissing match over piss water. This is probably more coincidental timing than a concerted effort due to the current temper tantrum some are throwing over Bud Lights marketing decisions.

Yeah that's what I figured as well.

I agree with this statement. Let the consumers send the message, if the consumer does not buy Bud light for example at the park and CP is losing money because of it then if they decide to remove it from the park, so be it.

To your point I hope they are not participating in the foolish boycott of products. I wish no organization would take sides, the consumer will send their message if they so want to.

Myself, I will not purchase products such as Bud Light because of it, but that is my choice just as it is the choice for someone who either does support what they promote or someone who just doesn't care and want's to. It's called freedom and we all should be thankful we have freedom.

I feel certain this is why this happened not because of a boycott. CP doesn't seem to align with any certain side.

^Good for you! But you should probably only consume food grown in your own garden, not take in entertainment of any sort, not support any retail and sew your own clothes if you really don’t want to patronize any business that doesn’t jive with your personal beliefs. Come to think of it, just join an Amish community.

Must be a lot of snowflakes out there just ask Bud Light and Target.....

Everyone can think for themselves it's called freedom of choice.

Now, now, you know the rules. My Freedom isn’t your Freedom. Because, you know. Freedom.

You're right...there are a lot of snowflakes out there. And you know the saying, we can disagree on pizza toppings but there is a right side and wrong side of bigotry. If you can justify your hate for others, there's no hope for you.

Eat 'em up, Tigers, eat 'em up!

There have been a lot of really stupid performative 'protests' over the last 6-7 years but the Bud Light one truly truly takes the cake. Its absurd

True, but the boycott is not evidence of that. Quite the opposite, in fact, since I guarantee without social media echo chambers amplifying white Christofascist grievance culture you would not have noticed and thus not cared about a beer company's marketing campaign. But you're boycotting terrible beer basically because someone on FB (or wherever) told you that is what you're supposed to do.

Also, the quantity of stupid bigots doesn't mean it's not stupid bigotry.

I heard someone state a theory recently that I can understand. People, at this point, may just be avoiding Bud Light to stay out of the controversy entirely. They don’t want association with any part of either argument, so they just choose something else because they don’t have brand loyalty. The fact that you can find several other light beers that taste similar is all most people care about, in general.

It also seems that the trend has been swinging toward cheaper/older brands, as evidenced by the resurgence of retro packaging, and the availability increasing on beers that once seemed to be long gone.

Personally, I like Busch Light over Bud Light, and it’s always cheaper, too. We stock our band fridge with it and between that, Coors Banquet and Miller High Life/Lite, we always have them in our camping coolers. They’re low alcohol, so they wont wreck your day, and it’s just nice to have them for everyone when you have a group.

Not to mention it barely qualifies as a “campaign”. They sent an online personality a personalized can that was a gift and was never going to be sold or featured. She talked about it very briefly in a video she posted and that was the entirety of the “campaign”.

You can say and feel whatever you want, but it becomes a problem when it comes at the expense of someone else.

As I said on the other site...

I can assure you that there are no politics involved here. First off, Bud Light sucks. It has always sucked, and I've never understood why it enjoyed the popularity it does other than it's cheap and only slightly better than Natty Lite, which is to say, still tastes like ****. I recall a decade or so ago, Ohio chain Winking Lizard dropped Bud in favor of Yuengling. The reason was price increases that they thought were ridiculous relative to the value of the product (they typically carry dozens of beers on tap, hundreds in bottles). When Cedar Fair dropped Pepsi for Coke, I recall the dynamic was even more extreme. The deal included a ton of signage budget that were like a fresh coat of paint, and I'm not sure if they actually paid for any of the product, at least at first, with Coke considering it more of a marketing expense than anything.

The distributor probably didn't play nice, the park put something else in the bar.

djDaemon, could not agree more if it was not for social media this would be a non-conversation. The so called media doesn't help either, all they do is fuel the flames....

Honestly, I did not drink Bud Light before all this because it sucks.... IMO....
