CP Resorts Wi-Fi

No, not at all am I saying that wifi is bad at the park. What I am saying is that if you plan on staying at camper village, then you should not plan on using wifi. If you plan on using the Internet, then stay at one of CP's other hotels that has wifi (which is why it is a good thing Breakers finally put some in). This is my view on the situation, if you disagree, then that is your opinion and I can't do anything but accept that.

On a side note, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the wifi at CP doesn't come with an upcharge in the not too distant future. Some of the entertainment driven places we have stayed ( IE Disney, Las Vegas) we have heard folks complaining about the upcharges.

Even all Ohio State Parks campgrounds have free wifi. I think in this day and age, you can put it up there with showers and flush toilets as something most probably expect when you're paying that much for a campground. And for the record, I don't take my computer with me to Cedar Point, but it is now to have wifi on my phone in the mornings to check weather, scores, etc.

So let me get this straight... it's OK to want WIFI if I'm at Breakers, but not at Camper Village?

Why?

My RV is nicer than any room at Breakers, and has an office area where my wife can work remotely for a few hours a day and not have to take vacation time to be at Cedar Point. But YOU are telling me that it's ONLY OK if she does this from Breakers, but not Camper Village.

Since CV does not have WIFI, she is forced to stay at home a couple extra days and drive down separately most times, when we go to CP. Specifically, this weekend (Coastermania) and on the Halloweekends in the fall. With WIFI, we could all drive down together, and spend more family time together.

But according to you, we must have a "small addiction" and "should be able to go a few days without WIFI". I'm really glad you cleared this up for me.

Gatekeeper, also understand that Camper Village doesn't allow tents or open fires. So its not like camping at a state park, more like fake camping or bringing your own hotel room. If you're bringing an RV or camper, you are going to need electricity, why not wi-fi?

Besides, how else are we going to know when Tony tweets out our chance to board Gatekeeper without waiting in line?

Trust me, I wasted a lot of battery doing exactly that constantly trying to refresh my twitter without wifi or 3G. :)

Why not setup twitter to send you text notifications when tony sends out a tweet? Thats how I have it setup. I dont have to refresh twitter, i just get the message and know.

But yeah, you could do that. One of my biggest issues is the 3G coverage on my phone when the park is crowded. It's almost impossible to do Internet. I think you can still do texting though.

I understand the complaints about places on property not having wifi at all. Just about every mcdonalds in the country has wifi access, so why not a campground. Im sure it would not be hard at all to run the lines needed and put a booster in a tree or central location. A really good range access point would run you about 600. They would make that back in a few nights stay from one guest. Its not that big of a deal to a huge company like CF.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, I was having trouble even getting a text to go through. It wasn't just us though, Tony was having trouble with his own service.

Does the Breakers wifi require a password to access it or could someone staying at the campground go to the Breakers lobby and connect?

Yes, Ohio State Parks have wifi, but not all have wifi for the entire campground. Expample: East Harbor State Park has wifi in the camp store but not for the campsites. Same thing for Maumee Bay State Park and Indian Lake State Park.

Implying that all Ohio State Park Campgrounds have wifi is a stretch. Most provide wifi only in the camp store or lodge.

All you have to do at breakers when you connect is accept their terms and conditions. Then you are free to do as you wish.

My mistake then. I was under the impression all state park campgrounds had wifi. I do know that they have stated that as a goal to have it statewide. Still, even if ODNR can do it at one campground, CP should have it at Camper Village.

Sorry for the confusion, so again I will try to clarify.

In my experiences, I have gone camping to escape the 21st century technology and just to get away from all the problems and just enjoy time with my family. Yes, I know that this CP and it is hard to stay away from all the technology (i.e roller coasters, rides, etc.), but in my down time I would do other things such as play games, throw a football around and just enjoy my families company.

On the other hand, if I were to stay at a hotel, I would be expecting all the conveniences of modern life (yes, that includes wifi). Most of the time I spend as little time as possible in a hotel room and explore the area around the hotel. (In this case CP and maybe make way into Sandusky)

It was also stated that one would rather stay in their RV because it is nicer then a room. Could you not get your own personal router because if you own an RV then you may be on the road quite often and not every place has wifi.

Like I said in one of my earlier posts, I am just stating my opinion on the subject, not trying to convince everybody. I still say that one should be able to go a day or two without internet, but again, that is just me.

Gatekeeper, your point is well articulated and understood by all. I think what you are seeing is that basically nobody here agrees with you.

In general, this thread raises a larger issue Point-wide -- the cellphone reception as well as the wifi is hit-and-miss, and if CP plans to compete in the resort-realm as well as the ride-realm, then they have to match what every other major amusement resort offers.

Fort WIlderness at Disney not having wifi while the rest of the Disney resorts do have it would not only hit the forums it would be national news.

Its one of those areas that CP still has a long way to go to match the quality of other nationwide resorts, though its getting better year after year.

Let's be honest about WiFi at Disney though... it's nearly ubiquitous, even in the parks, because good connectivity is key to making MyMagic+ work.

I think there is a challenge providing WiFi to that many people in a congested area no matter where you are. (Not that I know anything about this.) I've had those issues at LEGOLAND, the Zoo, etc. And, of course, there have been stories about the NCAA trying to make improvements next year for bowl games.

They didn't build Rome in a day and Ouimet took a Time Machine back to the 50s when he landed on the peninsula. I assume the technology will continue to improve over time but when you started just slightly beyond two tin cans and a string it is a long uphill climb.

Wi-Fi is free and working great today at Hotel Breakers. We're on 5th floor.

I think massive WiFi is a solved problem, if you're willing to pay for it. I've been to tech conferences with temporary installations that were serving thousands of people at a time. I'm not talking about e-mail or weather checks, but actual, active, simultaneous use.
