I posted this last night, but it didn't seem to show up..I'm going to try it again.
----
Took a trip up to CP this past weekend. I only go to an amusement park once or twice a year, but I've been wanting to go to CP ever since MF was built.
The first problem my gf and I had was trying to find out where Breakers Express (the hotel we stayed at) was located. We called the resort number in the Getaway Guide, but on the first call they gave us the address for Cedar Point itself. After I noticed the error, we called again and they couldn't give us an address at all. She said the hotel was right on the causeway, so we should just follow the directions to the park.
Fair enough, but you'd think they would be able to give an address or directions on the website, or in the Getaway guide, or at least when you call! How are you supposed to stay at a Hotel that you have no directions or address for!?!??
We ended up taking a different route than what was listed on the website...we finally found the park, which was a good thing (you'd think they would have more signs posted), but it was before we found our hotel! Apparently we came in the back way! The man at the entrance to the parking lot was nice enough to tell us how to find Breakers Express, which we did. Even if we had followed the directions listed on the CP website, we still would have missed our hotel! Are they trying to hide it from us?
We bought a package deal at Breakers express in whcih we got a few perks, including two starlight tickets and two all day tickets. Well, we were supposed to get two all day tickets, but we only recieved one. We got this fixed the next day (We had to wait until 4:00 to use the starlight tickets and I didn't want to burn any of that time up fixing their mistake.)
We finally arrived at the park and had nice drive around the island because we didn't know where we were supposed to park. All the parking lot attendants kept waving us by. I had been to the park once before so I knew something was wrong when we passed up Mean Streak. After some arguing I finally convinced my gf to drive back to the front of the park and park in a spot designated for RVs & campers.
We finally made it in the park and had a ride on Raptor before heading to MF. When we reached MF we were told that my gf could not get into line with her small purse (even though she just rode Raptor while wearing it). Even PKI will let you leave stuff in the station if you can't ride with it, so I was a bit irked that we were "FORCED" to rent a locker for $.75 even though they don't mention this on the tickets, at the gate, on the website etc. We could have walked all the way back to the car, but we didn't have much time because we were using starlight tickets.
Of course we didn't have three quarters, so we saw a sign that says to go to the MF cart for change. We walk all the way to the MF cart and the woman woudn't give us change and said there was a change machine next to the lockers. (So what was the sign for then?!?) So we get change, put three quarters in, the first two drop and the third doesn't make a noise...after "beating" on the locker I decide that the third coin will drop after taking the key out, but my gf does not let me explain an tells me she's not putting her purse in there and shuts the door and pulls the key out. So the first $.75 was wasted and we had to get change AGAIN. This time we know to ignore the sign and go straight to the change machine. And we finally get the purse in the locker after a good 5 minutes wasted (which seems like an eternity when you're waiting to ride the ride that you made the trip for).
So we get in line and while walking up and down the aisles of the queue, we pass about 4 or 5 girls with purses! My gf and I were literally about to blow up at this point!
I am happy to report though, that after our first ride on MF, we pretty much forgot all the troubles of the day (and after learning to just wear her purse under her coat while getting in line for MF or Wicked Twister).
This also brings me to my next point. While MF may have a point in not letting people get in line with things they cannot ride with because the unloading and loading platforms are seperate (although PKI does just fine with FOF) On Wicked Twister, you start and stop at the same place, but they STILL will not let you leave items in the station....well, actually they let you leave glasses, hats and shoes on the shelves where you could just as easily leave something like a purse and not have to rent a locker to put it in. Sounds like CP has a new money making venture?!? Not to mention the outragous $3.00 Pepsi machines!!
I have to admit that CP is a great park and I prefer it 100 to 1 over PKI, but the locker situation is my one large beef with them. Well that and the $3.00 Pepsi machines...but I assume all the other parks charge this now as well (Well maybe not Holiday World :) )
Here is some of my reasoning to the Point:
*I think the 3, 300ft. rides are all the road map I need when I go
*What happened in the parking lot where you couldn't see where to park? Also a tip for next time, depending on what you want to ride first, parking in Soak City and working your way in the Magnum entrance can be a great way to save on time.
*Millennium Force does not have anywhere to put your things once on the loading platform. Anything put there will be left there, so anything they catch they will say cannot be ridden with.
*On Wicked Twister they don't let you put things like purses on because think of it this way: as the train passes at 72mph, would you rather have your girlfriend's sunglasses blown away, or her purse blown away?
The hotel has no address itself its all sent to 1 cedarpointdr.
and then ATTN: resorts.
The 300 ft tall rides are not visible from KY :)
My gf was driving (wink wink) and we saw the parking lot, just didn't know we were supposed to park there...just followed the road.
How hard is it to build a shelf to store things in MFs station? $20 out of a $25,000,000 budget for the ride isn't much. Instead they pay hundreds of dollars to put in lockers (and then charge you to store stuff in them). It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth that they force you to use the lockers. Nothing was being blown away at the station for WT, and I'd rather see someone lose a stuffed animal that they're not allowed to get in line with than their shoes! Again, my gf rode just fine with her purse under her coat, so there was no need for her to put it in the station or a locker.
If the resorts have no address, then they could have at least printed directions or a map on the Getaway guide, or on the website, or in the confirmation letter they send you, or at least tell you where it is when you call! Especially when the directions on the website don't even take you past the hotel!
Again, it was a good visit, but there is definately some room for improvement.
A shelf idea for MF would be a good idea, but they also have 2 stations for MF.
There is a lot of things that can be improved, but they will be improved as all things do.

I doubt Cedar Point is trying to capitalize on the lockers. The no purse or other objects rule is a good one. Have you ever had a purse/glasses/camera hit you in the face at 93 MPH?
The workers can't catch everything. There are just too many people walking through the entrance to the queue and some people hide their things also.
It's best to follow the rules. I know if I get hit by a purse and suffer an injury, Im gonna open it up to find out who I am sueing.
You can't have a storage area at MF due to the stations.
Plus CP probably doesnt want to deal with people losing thier valuables. With the amount of people who pass through the station, mainly those who get on before you but get off after you leave for your ride, they can take anything. It is best to avoid that potential fiasco.
As for missing that huge parking lot, go fig. If you had a parking pass from the hotel on your dashboard, the parking booth operators would have motioned you through, assuming you were staying at one of the resorts on point. In fact, there are signs above the parking booth for the outer road that specifically say "RESORTS/Soak City". This is generally the smallest line and once you are in it, it's tough to get back out. Personally, I like parking in the back by Soak City.
As for the purse...fanny packs are allowed, purses are not unless they are small enough to be secured in a pocket or covered by a coat. There IS a sign at the entrance that explains these items may not be taken into line. MF and WT are much more intense than Raptor and have higher speeds. Although they let me wear my glasses on Raptor, I HAVE to take them off for MF and WT. It would be nice to be able to see when I ride, but oh well.
As for a "shelf", CP doesn't want to be responsible for someone snatching her purse. Personally, I wouldn't put a purse on a shelf. Just common sense there. I've never taken a purse into an amusement park. I use a fanny pack. After more than 32 years of amusement parks, you learn the tricks.
As for the $3 pop and water? You aren't the only one who finds that outrageous. I think most people on these forums agree that is a major ripoff, and most are boycotting those machines.

What? US 6 has not ever as long as I can remember ever crossed Cedar Point Dr. north of the Breakers Express site.
I personally don't see how, as a tourist, you can possibly miss the hotel.

If you're so confident that no one will take your stuff while it's in the MF station (or any station at any park), why not just leave it on a midway bench or in an unlocked locker? Last time I checked, they open without paying, you just can't lock them! The reason for not having shelves at every ride is twofold. First, the park does not want to be responsible for your stuff being stolen or damaged while you ride. Many people think that the ops are going to sit there and watch their stuff, but the truth is, they can't keep 108 people's (3 trains full) things straight. Also, this is done for capacity. People walking over to set stuff into a box takes time, and it's time that just doesn't exist on some rides (Magnum, Corkscrew, Gemini in particular) if the crew is going to be able to hit interval and not have downtime due to set ups. CP tries to be accomidating where it is workable (Mantis, Raptor, Power Tower), but in some cases, boxes or shelves just aren't practical. Personally, if it doesn't fit in my cargo shorts, it's not coming into the park with me. I've seen plenty of women walking around CP without a purse too.
It sounds like you might have taken the Cedar Point Chausee (long narrow road with houses/lake on both sides) instead of the causeway. I don't think any of the park's official directions tell you to do this. If you follow the main route (250 to Butler St. to 6 to the causeway) there are many signs to instruct you. If you get off of 2 at Rye Beach Rd, it is possible to be confused because you'll be in the boonies and you'll think you did somehting wrong, when in reality you just go along 6 until you come to the causeway. Not exactly sure how you cna miss Breakers Express if you were on the causeway (unless somehow you got onto the causeway from First St.).

It could be that you followed Rt 6, but then turned off onto 1st Street. That would have put you north of the hotel, as 1st Street enters the Causeway right by the employee housing.
As for shelves on MF, I don't think it's possible. You exit at a different station than you enter. How would you get to your stuff?

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.
Why not look around and realize that the problems were not caused by the park, but by your own lack of intelligence or your own indignance?
Whose fault is it that you lost $.75 in the first locker? Your airhead girlfriend who closed the locker and pulled out the key without her purse in it. Not Cedar Point's.
Whose fault is it that you didn't read the HUGE sign at Millennium Force's entrance that says that no backpacks, purses, cameras, etc etc are allowed past the entrance? Not Cedar Point's.
Whose fault is it that you went the wrong way into the park instead of planning your trip better and checking map sites first? You guessed it, not Cedar Point's.
If you go the right way into the park, there is NO WAY you can miss Breakers' Express, as already noted in this thread.
So you think Cedar Point should put shelves in Millennium Force's station? Maybe you could design some way said shelves could be feasibly fit into the station design, with the unload and load stations being fairly far apart and only accessible by an employee walkway on which guests are NEVER allowed to walk, under ANY circumstances. However, I doubt you could muster up the three brain cells to figure out a way to do this to the existing station, as it might require being intelligent enough to know the mechanisms of a locker at Cedar Point.
I don't think your problems with the park are the park's problems, I think they're just that, YOUR problems.

They have those same signs at WT lockers, and the same thing happened to me. The girl at the WT stand said that the sign was for if the change machine wouldn't work. They could have at least added, "...if the machine doesn't work," after it says please see WT cart for change.

Breakers Express didn't strike me as being easily missed. It appears in a clearing and there is a scrolling marquee telling you its BE.
IMO, there doesn't seem to be much room for shelves in MF's stations. Having two stations doesn't help the fact either. I have only left one thing behind on a shelf for a coaster before and even then I was nervous it would get stolen. Thank god for cargo pants.

Isn't SR6 at the light next to the causeway? I know that BE was two lights away and there were signs for SR6 at the next light so that if we had entered on that road as suggested on CP's website, we would have missed the Hotel anyway.
And yes, it must have been the Chausee that we drove on to get the Point.
