Commons

Commons dorms and apt's are right next to each other it's all inside the High Security Barbed Wire Fence... Rec. Center is behind 1000 building and right next to 1400 building right near the center. Louies is walking distance and Meijers is on 250 you'll need a ride to get there it's pretty far away. I like the Commons Dorms better than the Apartments, just because you live closer with fewer people.
I'm living in Bayside this year...no more ghetto for me...whoohoo!!!

Well, thank you for pointing out that other problem w/ the dorms Anniebelle...........I was never there for those parts of the season, so did not know about the ride pride taking over the dorms. And who are you confusing me with???

Another plus for the apts.......the living room does have A/C even though the bedrooms dont'.

And again with the dorms..........don't live there if you're very bothered by foreigners running around in just a t-shirt........and nothing else.......i mean nothing else.

I lived in the Commons apartments last summer... It wasn't bad since it WAS air conditioned in the living room and we had this system of fans that pushed the cool air down the hall toward the bedrooms. We also got cable splitters and sent the cable TV down the hall to each bedroom as well (ingenious, eh?) The heat COULD be bad at times but since everyone who lived there was working all day anyway, it didn't really matter because it was cool at night when we got home. The bad thing was that, although all 16 of us got along, we had different levels of neatness that kind of conflicted. Me and my roommates liked to keep things clean and there were a lot more people that really didn't care either way... That can be a problem but nothing you can't work through with a positive attitude. I kind of felt like I was living in a very small college dormitory, since we all had seperate rooms and roommates, and then there was a common area (living room/kitchen) that we all shared together. My contract starts April 28 this summer, so you can bet I'll be trying to get in off-Point again. I want to live in Bayside, but I wouldn't mind returning to Commons at all.

Would you please stop posting things that have no relevance to the topic.. You are starting to piss me off and I don't even know you. Please take the personal crap off the messageboards so that Jeff won't close it. Some newbies actually have questions and you keep getting the topics closed.

Thank You Very Much

"What If I Avenge? What If Eye For An Eye"

Yeah, Commons dorms are pretty small, considering, I live in a room the same size as on of those rooms, and I live in it alone.

I have lived in commons all of my years at cp and I like it. I like the apartments because you meet so many cool people. The only down fall would be the mess that always builds up in the kitchen/living room. Oh well. I think Bayside smells so I dont know what is more ghetto!!

Ok, I am planning on staying in Commons Apts. this summer. Is there anything I should bring other than what they say on the site. If so, let me know ok. Thanks guys.

You can bring pretty much anything you want. My personal opinion is, don't bring anything expensive or that you're really attached to, just in case something might happen to it. Bringing furniture isn't recommended, since there already is that type of stuff available there for you. Computers aren't necessary either; the pain of dialing up with a limited number of out lines is really too much of a hassle. Lamps maybe -- the lighting in some of those rooms is really dim. Fans and dishes to cook with would be a good idea, too. Other things I am very glad I didn't forget last year: an umbrella (when it rains, it pours!!), stationery, stamps, and envelopes, first aid stuff (don't forget Band-aids and aspirin!), a couple of rolls of quarters for laundry, a phone card, and random videos or favorite books for those nights when you just want to relax at home. You will die without a good, trustworthy alarm clock and watch, so don't forget those. For anything you DO forget, there is always Meijer or K-Mart just a few miles up the road.

I am very big about personal security after having a bad experience at summer camp when I was younger (some hoser horked all my money!!), so I also brought a small lockable tool box which I chained to the frame of my bed with a bike chain. It was short enough that it slid right under the bed out of sight. My roommates turned out to be extremely trustworthy, but my box was an excellent place to keep things I didn't want to lose or carry around with me to work: credit cards, my checkbook, check stubs, etc.

The best thing to do would be to make a list of all the things that you want to bring with you before you go, so that you can look it over and decide what is necessary and what isn't. You can also use your list while you pack so that you don't forget anything important (which would be a pain if you live 5 hours away from CP like I do!) Good luck!!

"What time is the snow going to stop?"

Thanks Lee for the advice and are we allowed to bring an alarm clock that plugs in to the wall? Because according to my letter I got from CP, they say no. I was just curious.

That's interesting you saw that in a letter... I don't understand why they would say that. You made me go back and read my Welcome back letter, and behold it did say "Bring a watch and an alarm clock, either non-electric or with a battery back up." I'm not sure if your letter had the same wording. So I guess if you go by my letter you can bring an electric alarm clock with battery backup. They probably mention battery backup so that if the power goes out, you'll still be on time to work. ;) I don't know very many people who had alarm clocks that did not plug into the wall. So the answer is yes, you can bring an alarm clock that plugs into the wall.

they don't want you to be late for work...i think that is why you are supposed to bring a battery operated clock and not an electric that you plug in the wall...power outages and all.

don't bring too much. anything you need that you forget or didn't bring can be purchased with all your earnings (wink wink, nudge nudge) or sent via snail mail

The rooms in commons are horribly small, unless you're used to a dorm room maybe 30'x30' w/3 beds, 3 lockers, a lamp, a dresser, trash and chair. I was lucky cause I had a roommate but she was staying at Bayside so I never ever saw her. Someone said something about bringing dishes, I cant imagine what for since you cant have a microwave in those rooms, or can you? There is one however in the main lobby. The rooms are COLD in the off season-I had 2 blankets and a sleeping bag and was still cold, I've heard if you dont have an a/c the rooms are like tiny ovens in the summer. I guess if you can tolerate 2 other roommates, the public bathroom that can get BEYOND nasty you'll be ok. If I was going to ever work at CP again I think I'd choose Bayside. Better parties over there and even though more roommates, there is more "privacy" persay cause at commons you hear EVERYTHING! I would however avoid Cedars at all cost, although living right on the Point is cool, I thought that place was nasty beyond all belief, unless you like the smell of must and mold...blech!

As far as dishes go, I was talking about Commons apartments, not the dorms.... If you're living in the dorms, you can't cook, so you wouldn't need anything like that.
