Commercial Shoot: Dragster May Be Down

Some info: Hey gang, went to the Park today, only to find out that Dragster did not open to the public until 3:00ish. The reason being that a photo shoot, and commericals were being filmed. The Park told us this would be going on Wednesday, and Thursday of this week as well. Wanted to pass it on...

NNNnnnnnnnnnnOOOOoooooooo.............

I'm goin' to the point on Thursday!

Did they say if it would be down all day Wed. and Thurs. or part of the day? I'll be highly p'od if I drive 3 hours up there tomorrow and they are doing photo and commercials shoots that could and should have been done last week when the park wasn't open. Thanks for the heads up.

My advice would be to call the Park, and talk to Park Ops. I would imagine it would be like today, when they tied up the ride until they let us in the queue around 2:30. They tested for about thirty minutes, before the public was allowed in. Ride Ops said they were there from 5:00 am. There is a sign outside main gate saying "Dragster will open later today."

they should have been doing that when the park wasn't open for 4 days.
You know even if you do get down there an it is open there is a large chance you won't get a ride on it anyways we didn't an we where there for 4 days. It spent more time down then open on fri. & sat. an sunday and monday kept shutting down due to wind...
Whine, complain. They were busy. :)

That's Ridiculous™

olympic10086 - I would call Park Operations but I live 3 hours away and they don't open until 9 am, I'll be an hour from the park at that point so what good is that going to me.

Cedar Point Lady - the fact that it was down due to weather is one thing, I don't have a problem with that. The fact is they are shooting commercials and photos that as I said before and ricky williams said, could and should of been done last week when the park wasn't open.

Sheesh...It's still going to be open. How about those other 15 coasters!?
15 other coasters that I've riden upteen million times. The sole purpose of this trip is to ride Dragster.

It's not an easy feat for us to find the right time and circumstances for a day like this. My husband has to work a schedule out between 7 other people for the day off and we have to schedule an overnight babysitter for our daughter, not to mention worry about weather and other circumstances that might arise.

It's not like we are locals and can pop in whenever we want. When you have a job, family, house and all the other things that come with life, you'll understand where I'm coming from.

olympic, how were the lines in general today, including dragster when it was opened?
Job: check (tenure-track professor at Michigan)
Family: check (wife, two kids, dog, two cats, fish)
House: check (a "cozy": three bedroom ranch)
All the other stuff: check (too much to enumerate)

Okay, so I understand where you're coming from. Still, my wife and I went today, didn't ride Dragster, and still had plenty of fun. I'm guessing that you and your husband will similarly manage to find some way to have a good time.

Of course, you could just decide that all your planning will be wasted if you don't get to ride Dragster. And if you do, it will be.

colin: my wife doesn't ride many of the biggies. Millennium was >1hr when we walked by. Dragster was 3. Raptor was 45 minutes. Most everything else we looked at was a 15 minute wait or less.

Highlights of the day: getting walked off of Mean Streak (the last train to make it around the course, about 2PM. Don't know if it ever started up again or not). Seeing Magnum Dan working as the platform host on, well, Magnum.

ok, thanks. I'm going next tues and wed and I just wanted to know what it could be considering today is tuesday

edit: heh, didn't even notice you arent olympic :p

most people who love coasters and want to ride dragster like me can't sit there and watch te sole purpose of their trip be shut down because of something that should have been done awhile ago......maybe they should work on getting all the bugs out and get it riding good before they go bragging about what a great ride it is.

Why is it nobody will ever admit to CP ever making a mistake. Closing the ride for this reason is unacceptable. Why can't they do commercial shoots between 7:00-10:00am?

If the ride was closed because of weather or equipment failure, I still would be disappointed but not upset with the park, because the problems would be outside of their control.

If they know they are going to do "stupid" things like this they should post it on the website or have it on a information hotline phone number.

I have plans to goto to CP on Thursday. Yes I agree I would still have a great time if the ride is closed, but if I would have in advance that this sort of thing was going on, I would have changed my schedule to go on a different day.

This is the slowest week of the year. They're running TV spots with the lame animation. Tell me, what's your better idea?

If they had spent the entire last week filming commercials instead of working on all of the bugs left in the ride who's to say you would have gotten to ride this week anyway? :oP

Like I said in my post, do the photo shoots in the early morning. If it takes a few more days so be it. Some of us do not have the luxury of going to the park anytime we want for quick spin on a few coasters.

Wait, so the TTD will be open a normal time on Friday... correct?

I agree James. Getting 5 trains running with all 16 seats per train was more important then shooting commercials last week.
