Commercial

Hey gang, I have see these Great SFWOA Commercials here in Detroit...and I have to say that if I had never been to the park before, this commercial definately sold me..(but I went last year and was not impressed, so I vowed not to go back)....

But I thought I read somewhere that Cedar Point was going to start marketing the park more this year...has anyone seen any examples of this yet?

I can't believe that I have not seen any CP advertisment with the park opening in less that two weeks?

Being a former television producer and now media, writing, marketing teacher...this makes no sense to me :(

So there Targeting Detroit, SFWoA is going for the Kill. Detroit is probably 2 - 2/1/2 hours away though and SFWoA seems like hardly the resort destination right now. I'd be impressed if people pass up CP on the highway to go twice the distance to get to SFWhatever.

The commercials here around Cleveland go like this. They talk about combing SFO and SWO and thats pretty much it. Unless people around here have been living in a cave, we already know that. There is about a whole 2 second blurb in the commercial about X-Flight.

I too have not seen much in the way of CP advertising. I sure hope we do see some CP commercials soon. The only thing I can think of is it's to early for most people (besides us) to be thinking about amusement parks. Right now would be a good time for CP to start up some advertising. If they don't, I don't mind an empty park this year (yeah right) :)

Joe E. Here in Detroit, the commercial spends about 10-15 seconds on X-Flight, and only that is the computer video...they show A LOT of Superman: Ultimate Escape...

SFWoA is going for the Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Detroit markets. Cleveland will always be somewhat split between CP and SFWoA so why saturate the market there. They're trying to attract the family vacationers, hence the bigger better ads out of town. SF has only been in the region for a year now so they've still got the national brand-name recognition to push. They also have the SWO crowd to appeal to. Add the two parks together and you've got a bona fide two day park and that's the marketing angle they're taking.

I would hope that CP takes the "same good park as last year" angle by pushing the success of MF.

Let the summer begin!

Last year there were bilboards all over Cincinnati for CP, but never saw a tv commercial. I heard one radio spot, though. As for this year, I haven't seen anything.

One thing along these lines. I remember one trip last year there were people out at the front gate asking visitors for their zip codes. Does CP base their advertising on these figures, or are they just looking to see where people are coming from? Just curious, because I've never seen anyone doing that down here at PKI. Thought it was a great idea.

The odd thing was that I drove through the Toledo area yesterday and I saw several SFWOA billboards and I didn't see any CP ones until I got to Erie County!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way I heard the new CP commercials will make you wanna dance?

I am currently at Penn State (can't wait to go home next week to Cleveland) and I saw the ad last week on an Altoona TV channel. I thought the ad was very impressive. People here would have about a 4 hour drive to Six Flags. I know the trip is definitely not worth it, but that ad is quite amazing. It sure makes it look like SFWOA is the place to be this summer.
I remember the Mantis promo ads with the kid stepping on the Praying Mantis.

Crady Crady!! CRADY CRADY!!
Can't wait to see the CP commercials then, Dan, because I am always ready to dance :)

Interesting though, about your experience in Erie County

Just a few minutes ago I heard a commercial on 92.5. It was about getting $13 dollars off with the Pepsi products.

It caught my ear, but it was pretty much not interesting. Hope to see some soon!

Coming back soon! (sometime soon...)
Just Another Random Note, I was watching Dharma And Greg Here in Detroit, and saw an Islands Of Adventure Commercial....marketing, promotions, commericals, EVERYWHERE and for EVERYTHING except for Cedar Point :(

It sold me too but I think this topic belongs in Coasterbuzz.

Yes, the SFWofA commercial is very impressive - enough to make me rethink my lighthouse point reservations for exactly 4.75 seconds :-)

We are from Mid-Michigan and I expect us to go to SFWofA next year in lieu of CP, but only because my youngest will be 7 and my oldest 16.....So, its realistically the last chance for the oldest to visit Sea World with the family and the youngest will be old enough to really understand & enjoy it.......But reluctantly, of course...... CP is much more convienent and enjoyable, but animals are important to young kids and the exit of Jungle Larry's followed by the demise of the Dolphin show sort of force the hand of the parent. This year I am making a side trip to the Toledo Zoo to appease this.,....Any opinions or comments on the Toledo Zoo? *** This post was edited by Frontierman on 4/25/2001. ***
Fine Dan.. swing on through and don't stop by for a beer.. I see how you are...

And yes.. there are currently 8 SFWOA signs in Toledo (advantage of having friends in the ad biz) and not a one CP as of Saturday.

I live in the Central Michigan area and I too have seen the commercial, but nothing yet on CP! I also plan on going to SFWOA over CP this year. A park that big with more attractions and cheaper, can't be passed up!
Hey frontierman, email me for info on the Toledo zoo.

SFWOA may not be a resort destination yet but they do own the Woodlands Hotel and the Campground back behind Sea World. Anybody know the size of that campground?

There may not be hotels right at the park but they can market all of Cleveland as the destination.

I look for Cedar Point to have a good year. With the economy questionable and gas prices soaring people are going to stick to the regional parks ala Cedar Point.

Walt Disney World is having a dismal year with attendance projections and hotel reservations down considerably. People won't be making the big trip.

Come to think of it, the last marketing program I really remember of CP's was "Cedar Point is the cure for the summertime blues". That commercial played ALLLLLL the time.
Frontierman.. what you want to know about the Toledo Zoo?? I basically grew up there.. My father was Developement Manager for the entire zoo in the mid-late 80's.

I still know a good number of the keeprs and admin people, matter of fact just saw Mr. Denler (head of the zoo) last week.

It's a fantastic zoo, and I've been to many.

Although It was a while ago, when I was a kid I use to go up for a couple of weeks in the Summer to live with my Uncles in Toledo. I visited the Zoo a couple times, and I must say it was excellent, just like the Cleveland Zoo except more centralized and less sprawled out.

I think my Uncles old company Total Lawn Care (TLC for short, before the "music" group even), did some work around the outside of the zoo, so that how I got interested.
