Chain lift for GK

Cedar Point does not need a flying roller coaster. Vekoma hasn't built one since 2001 because they had a lot of problems. B&M manufactures them but we simply don't need one. Most people find them uncomfortable.

If CP were to have a flying coaster, they would of gone with it rather than the wing concept. GateKeeper is evidence of that. Not saying it will never happen, but not very likely. Kings Island could use a good flyer though.

Firehawk.......taer 'er down!!11111 :)

Somewhere it was stated that Kinzel never like the flying coaster concept.

Yes I am aware. Anyways as Carowinds is my home park with two Vekomas, you do not want one of theme over a B&M or Intamin. Vekomas are more unreliable than Intamins and no where near as fun.

Coasters I want to ride: #1 El Toro #2 Leviathan #3 The Voyager #4 I305 #5 Behemoth

What about a Wing Flyer.. A wing and a fly hybrid where you fly belly down on the outside of the track

Multiple problems with that, don't even know where to begin. No, just no.

Magic mountain did that with "X". And the seats even flip you. Unless.......does it have many problems, though?

Enough problems to delay its opening by nearly a year. Then to be shut down again a few months later, then had to be completely re-modified in 2008 and reopened as X2. Not to mention it put Arrow Dynamics into bankruptcy. $46,000,000+ investment.

Oh come on. We need a flying coaster.

The last thing CP needs is another attraction that caters so specifically to thrill seekers.

Brandon

Exactly. Wait, why is everyone excited about GateKeeper since it will only cater to thrill seekers?

djDaemon's avatar

Just because people are excited about it doesn't mean it was the best decision for the park to make, in terms of broadening its appeal.

The people who are excited for it are thrill seekers. Ask families with young children if they are excited for Gatekeeper. Now ask if they would prefer a well themed dark ride. The answer is obvious.

Hi, I'm a father of a 4 year old who won't be able to ride Gatekeeper yet, and I couldn't be more excited.

She may not be able to ride it yet, be she will be able to in a few years.

I don't go with anyone really young, but I know a vast majority of my family would prefer the coaster. In fact, most only want to plan the trip back the year after a new coaster debuts.

liebevision, I am the same way. However, we are enthusiasts, and are kind of the exception. The general public doesn't care about this the way we do, and I think any family ride would be looked at just as positively as a coaster.

Funny how you categorize enthusiasts like that :) There are many general people who talk about coasters alot and want to ride them....I guess the hard core enthusiasts are actually people who check the webcams every 5 mins and follow CP on twitter, FB, etc. :) I only look at the cams like once everyother day, being busy the rest of the day.
