Chain lift for GK

This will be the first traditional chain lifthill in 17 years since 1996 when Mantis was installed! Everything since then has been either launched, or powered, or cable lift. I know that Woodstock is a tire-driven mini lift but I am not counting that. This will be a solid coaster all around and build excitement as walking into the park. Not only by the gate flyovers, but the noise from the anti-rollback clicking will really build excitement walking into the park. I just wish the lift hill was turned the other direction and facing the park rather than the parking lot but thats just me.

Powered coaster? Cedar Point doesn't have one of those..

It's great to see another great coaster at CP. Tallest & Fastest coaster in the park under 200'.

Shoot the Rapids uses a chain lift. :)

And anti rollbacks on newer B&M coasters are far quieter than past rides. Wild Eagle and X Flight were surprisingly quiet despite being right next to the anti rollbacks. So Gatekeeper won't have the same nostalgic sound. But it'll still be amazing.

Meant to say LSM powered. Yeah did not think of Shoot The rapids but lets say that is a gray area. :)

Loudest Anit-rollback for me ever was X-Flight at Geauga Lake. They actually gave me a headache and could not even talk to the person next to me. Also the fact that our heads and ears were very close to them did not help at all with the strange position we were in going up the lift. I have never been on Firehawk at Kings Island so dont know if the system was changed or not.

It is still pretty loud, clevelander. I actually don't enjoy Firehawk except for the minute and a half that you are going through the layout. First it takes forever to load and unload, then they lay you down and it's uncomfortable. Then if it is a sunny day you're blinded up the hill. The lift is loud as hell. Then it's fun like I said for a short period of time. But then you have to sit there again blinded by the sun and laying on your back at a weird angle waiting for unload.

Sorry for the rant, just my 2 cents. But yea, I'm stoked for Gatekeeper lol

I totally remember that now Sause. I remember sweating my butt off and being blinded by the sun and almost getting a migraine from the noise of the anti-roll backs on X-Flights lift hill. That to me was the most uncomfortable lift hill I have ever been on but it was totally kick ass after that part and the Horseshoe element to me is the best part of ANY coaster I have been on to date. I suspect the sharp turn around on Gatekeepers far end may have the same feeling. Very stoked here as well. :)

X-Flight actually had a little generator in the nose of the train that was supposed to lift up the anti-roll back dogs (like Millennium Force) but for whatever reason that motor was never maintained.

I would've chosen an elevator lift like Millenium Force for a quiet, quick lift, but since it takes longer to keep the attachment going up and down the hill after every train (and considering how many people want to ride this thing) a traditional chain lift does sound good.

Even more people wanted to ride Millennium when it opened. They didn't do an elevator lift because Bolliger & Mabillard don't have that technology.

It wouldn't make a difference either way because they don't send another train on millenium until one returns to the final brake run.

Please. It's not nuclear power. The cable lift was used in part to be fast, and made a lot of assumptions about what chains were capable of. For a significantly less tall ride with adequate blocks like Gatekeeper, it just isn't necessary. Simple is better... that's why B&M's trump Intamin in every facet of reliability.

That's exactly when in '08 at Raptor we were down for 3 days because of the lift and had to call in B&M's head mechanic it was just strange, because B&M's just don't have any extended downtime

Raptor's anti rollbacks are ridiculously loud too. I can't have a conversation with the person next to me on Raptor either.

Chains are great for blocking. Magnum is a great example. once the train drops off the lift, the next one is ready to go. If it is found that more time is needed to load the trains, the hill can be slowed down to give more time between trains.

Think of the Phantom's Revenge in two train operation mode. Slow lift until the other train pulls into the station than speeds up.

In it's final moments, I'll bet the lift hill was even louder than when the ride was running. :)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Jeez, I am surprised nobody has mentioned one of Cedar Point finest sounds, Magnum's lift hill.
