Any idea of what the fate will be for the Big Dipper or is the secret owner being hush hush about it?
From what I remember, the secret owner was revealed to be the owner of a company that specializes in moving large items (like roller coasters) and he bought it specifically to force whoever really wanted it to use his company to move it.
It would be neat if Cedar Point added a Geauga Lake themed area that included the Big Dipper. Very similar to what Taft did when they shut down Coney Island, they made a tribute area in Kings Island (originally called Coney Island but re-named to Coney Mall) where they even carried over some of the original rides. To see that Funtime sun logo stamped on trash cans, the Geauga Dog walk-around character (possibly with the rest of the fun-bunch), maybe even see Butch Hightide somewhere on the beach (I wonder what ever happened to that statue?). A tribute area like that with a building housing a museum (like Cedar Point's where they could even explain how Funtime was made up of former Cedar Point managers) would be magical. Too bad it'll never happen, since it's too large an investment for too little return (basically good will).
That said, Cedar Fair (or the new owner?) has literally let Big Dipper rot. They'd practically need to rebuild it from scratch at this point. Such a shame. Maybe they'll do something for it's 90th anniversary coming up (hopefully not destroy it but I wouldn't rule that out).
People can say what they will about Geauga Lake but Turtle Beach was probably the best damned kids waterpark area in the country. Damn shame it is gone.
I have a lot of nostalgia for the Dipper but it is probably more from working it than riding it.

Turtle Beach was the best! It was and still is my favorite play area at a water park. I also miss the GIANT Wave Pool, that thing was nuts.
Thank you Skippy for the update. It's sad that whoever the owner is still insists on moving the whole structure. I know some will disagree with me on this, but I would rather this guy tear down the Big Dipper and save the trains, the lift hill chain, the controls, and whatever else might be good. Over time, the more it rots, weeds, and trees will eventually start growing through it like what happened with Chippewa Park.
I hope that whatever our next coaster is, it has as nice as an entrance and plaza as Leviathan at Canada's wonderland, they did a really good job with the theming. I like the track extending on the tail from the back of the logo where the fountain is. Fountains always add a nice touch.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
I'm pretty sure that's P&D's job, and they generally have been doing a pretty good job at it for years.
