Cedar Point starting this summer will start offering various wedding packages to guests who want to get married on Point. Prices range from $500 to $4500 for just pictures, to full on complimentary admission, ceremony on a ride platform, and a full hour of ERT on any coaster of your choice. Details in the link below

Also, lets not get on the Gay marriage debate again like last season with the commitment ceremony deal. It's unfortunate but right now the law is the law. If the law changes, CP will sell these packages to anyone, no problem. But again, we're here to discuss CP, not Ohio law.

^ Or you can just not discuss, and allow others to discuss such a cool/rare/different/good opportunity for the park and those who want to have a legal wedding at their favorite amusement park.
Yeah, big deal for all of them, huh? Wow... I couldn't be happier for the park and everyone in Ohio who enjoys the right to legally marry.
And really, who opens up a topic then instructs the rest of us what we can and can't discuss?
Sigh..
I just didn't want a repeat of what happened late last season that resulted in a forum wide flame war which beat the topic into the ground. This forum has a nack for doing things like that.
Talk about the awesome packages, they sound amazing. I'm not one for marriage anytime soon, but these def are pretty cool for a coaster junkie couple.
I just don't want to see a marriage flame war again, it's not needed here, that's all. I don't see what all your fuss is about.

Fixed that for ya.
And I'm very sure you can't possibly see what all my "fuss" is about. Try spending your entire life standing on the outside sometime and maybe it will come clear.
You opened this can. Sigh.
I really wish I had looked into something like this when we were married 17 years ago. If this takes off, maybe renewals for the 25th. We are spending our anniversary at CP this year with out the kids (+1 for the grandfolks).
(which we normally do, but with the kids in tow). Hopefully I can get the wife to try something more daring than Gemini or ccmr. She committed to start with power tower if I slugged it out watching a show with her. (opposites - go fig).
remember: no matter where you go... there you are.
With some people it is always "all about them". Even when it isn't.

Oh, I know. What it should be is "all about everyone". Especially when it isn't.
Look, I don't care if I can get married or even have a commitment ceremony at Cedar Point. It's nothing I will ever choose to do, anyway, even when marriage equality eventually comes to Ohio. What I object to is the OP's intention, no matter how well intentioned, to steer this topic away from something that wasn't even there to begin with. Truthfully, if he hadn't attempted to dictate to everyone here what we're allowed to talk about, I would have been content to let y'all have your happy assed chatter about how awesome Cedar Point is for offering this service no matter how discriminatory a practice I feel it is.
Minorities of any kind should have the right to stand wherever they need to and scream at the top of their lungs for equality if they feel they should. And I would hope that would include this forum.
I'll reaffirm the point mac stated by agreeing that you shouldn't have even typed the second part, devarious. Assuming that the topic will go there (and expressing it through a paragraph) should have been enough foresight for you to not have posted the topic in the first place. If you had excluded that part, we wouldn't be having this kind of conversation.
Unfortunately, the can is indeed open.

As well it should be. Civil rights are an important topic, and provided folks can keep from being insulting, it wouldn't be the end of the world for the discussion to occur.
Regardless, I'd have to agree with RCMAC. Either the topic is too "hot button" for you to start, or it's not. Trying to dictate a conversation in an open forum is a lot like herding cats (unless you're a moderator).

I just didn't want this turning into other threads like the deal with the Halloweekends commitment ceremony, the Chick Fil A ban, Gay Day, etc.
Trust me it kills me to see that anyone can't marry anyone, just not too long ago military just acknowledged and gave benefits to same sex marriages and couples. Before, gay couples who had a spouse in the military could not recieve any benefits, which is absolutely outrageous IMO. I support the rights 100%.
I just didn't want it to turn into a flame war like every other thread that this issue comes up with. Many a time there are great discussions here on the site, I like seeing that. When it goes to a flame war over something like this it's irritating to see. I had good intentions to just say, hey lets keep it toned down and discuss. I didn't forsee this being a big issue. I mean look at KIC, their Pride Day at the park clearly states hey any anti Gay remarks/etc will be removed etc, not even by an admin, and over there, the peace has been kept. Here, every year there has seemed to be an issue once Fathers Day hits, I think it was two years ago we even had a completely rude guy close his own account down, and if I remember right Adam got involved too.
All I wanted was to come out and say hey lets keep the peace, that's all. Sorry if it caused any unintentional issues, I didn't think it would be percieved this way, however, perception trumps intent, so I appologize.

And I thank you for that. I also apologize if my smart-assiness turned to testiness- it was just that I really don't like being told what to say in what should always be a civilized discussion. I don't believe I was a part of last year's thread, not on here, anyway, but I'm well aware that it happens just about everywhere. And it does get gruesome, with folks getting unnecessarily heated, usually in regard to something they know less than nothing about. That's the frustrating part. But I appreciate your effort to keep the tools at bay.
I'd like to thank you for your support of your Gay brothers and sisters in the military. Equality has been and will always be a tough road for anyone who seeks it. I see marriage equality, which is a basic civil right, as something that will be coming sooner than later. States, cities, corporations, and even the military offering marriage recognition and/or extension of benefits is a great step in the right direction.
Truth told, the biggest obstacle to gay marriage? Gettin' someone to ask ya! THAT'S the hard part.
So... How bout those great wedding packages Cedar Point is offering this year? Awesome, right?
No. :-)
Really people? How is thedevariouseffect in the wrong at all here, for not wanting a huge argument that occurs every time this is brought up? I believe he was actually doing us a favor in not having to read a bunch of arguments, THAT AREN'T PARK RELATED.
And I was just worried that it would hold me up waiting in line while someone said their vows and took pictures. Shows you how long I've been married. We DID go to the Point for one of our first dates though.
And rode the Blue Streak, and agreed on the best ice cream flavor. No other coasters to ride at the time. I'm old.
Reading the link I see they are scheduling things mostly before hours so no inconvenience for the rest of us.

Twisted - this is the internet. Asking for an open forum to not go a particular direction is like grabbing a stick so you can tell the hornets in that nest not to sting you.
If you just ignore the possible discussion path rather than point it out, you're much more likely to get your desired discussion.
Or, it'll go down that path anyway because that's the much more interesting discussion.

Jugga, I'm well aware this is the internet, however, many threads have been closed and deleted for going way off topic, including past threads that involved this specific topic. So in order to prevent that situation from happening again, let's quit worrying about the Ohio laws, which is something that is way out of our hands, and focus on what Cedar Point is doing for legal marriage. That way, we won't have to ignore such a discussion. Such as what Chris49 is doing.
Just curious Chris49, what flavor ice cream did you agree upon?
Dunno why this forum has an issue with respecting wishes of another member. Other forums I participate in, many members help moderate/self moderate.
