If I went back to work there, I'd bring a gun too. Then I wouldn't have to rely on the police, would I? ;)
oh i love cp cops <3 they let me get away with everything last summer... probably the only reason why i never got in trouble all those nights out... if you are a 3rd shift at commons, im sure i'll get to know you, haha
Coming from one who knows (A former Housing Supervisor)....Cedar Point Police are there to help make your environment a safe one. Plain and simple.
Drinking underage or use of illegal substances? Pure idiotic stupidity on your part and you will be dealt with appropriately.
Carrying concealed weapons? See above. And believe me...it happens more than you know. In one month, I know that approximately 6 guns were confiscated from employees who had them hidden in varying spots including backpacks and under beds in dorm rooms.
Assault: Almost always happens on a regular basis, as sad as it may be...mostly due to drunkenness.
Pulling fire alarms: Ok..now you are just a complete tool if you think that is funny at 4am when people are sleeping.
Sneaking NON employees into Housing: Yet again, happens "all" the time. Read your handbook..seriously.
So aside from a few other recurring problems that happen all the time,..would you want to go at it alone and take matters into your own hands? Again, the Cedar Point Police are there to HELP YOU. Even though it is fighting a losing battle, reading and understanding the Employee Handbook is of the utmost importance. Common sense will tell you that you DONT DO THE THINGS that I listed or else you will be terminated!! Respect them and they will respect you.
And besides, if there were no Cedar Point Police and just security, most issues would be handed over to Sandusky Police, which I am sure most would grow to hate anyway.
First of all, the Police realize everyone working at Cedar Point wants to have a good time. However, if you are breaking Ohio laws or Cedar Point policies, they have to act accordingly. It still surprises me how indiscreet and stupid some employees can act. If any police officer (either in a municipality or Cedar Point) tells you they have never done something wrong or something they are ashamed of, they are lying. Police are not saints. But carrying an open container right in front of a uniformed officer or having your friends jump a fence where you know officers may be... Come on. And you would be surprised how many people get breaks.

"It still surprises me how indiscreet and stupid some employees can act."Sad, but true. Indiscreet and stupid does not even begin to describe some of the things that I have witnessed over the years. I'd love to write a book based solely on my experience as a Housing Supervisor and the situations that I experienced along with Cedar Point Police.
If only Cedar Point could afford a MUCH stricter screening process before they consider hiring employees. Ah well...what can ya do?
Just a little advice...
If you need help or an extra set of eyes, ask the Group Uitily guys (the ones changing trash cans), to keep an eye out, be it a lost kid or stolen purse.

I've complained before about CP treating all employees like criminals. However, from my experience, CP has always seemed to consider minor hooliganism a "wink wink" type of activity. (At my training session, the silver tag explained the "Louie's flu" to us, and seemed to chuckle at the "rules" management had in place to prevent them from being ripped off. )
However, I'm interested to hear from those of you who deal with this kind of stuff. How much of the policework is serious criminal activity and how much of this is CP being anal? (Ie. Policy violations, as opposed to true crimes. For example, smuggling beer into Commons, Tipsy employees being disrespectful, noisy conversations and other stuff that can reasonably be expected to come with the territory.)
I'm now a criminal defense attorney in the area, and I can't say I've ever really seen much Honest-to-Bob CRIME in the CP facilities. Have I just been in the wrong places?
Any interesting stories from you folks?
About the third day after I arrived at CP, somebody pulled the fire alarm, nedless to say, I was still recovering after a 12-hour banzai run from NH, and needed my sleep. Needless to say, I was downright PISSED when I found out somebody had pulled the alarm as a joke.
Aside from the CPPD, I have nothing but good, professional things to say about them. In fact, as a worker on the midways (Group Utility), the even asked me for help in finding a few things, like purse that had been stolen.

i liked some but it was the young ones on a power trip that really pissed me off...no disrespect, but...stop acing like a hard ass young guns. I respect why they are there but why do they have to watch employees come back from louies and harass them even if they are not out of control. i understand if they are drunk out of control but not if they are at least keeping themselves under control

When you are on Cedar Point property, the rules CP sets ARE the law. Just because you are not breaking a Sandusky or Ohio law does not mean that the CP Police aren't justified in enforcing CP rules. They most certainly should be enforcing the rules set by their employer, and it just doesn't matter if you think a rule is unfair.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Honestly, I don't know why everyone hates the CP Police so much. I didn't really have a problem with them last year -- minus one of them hassling me about sitting in my car in the parking lot at commons, waiting for someone.
If I did have a problem and the police needed to be involved, I'd much rather deal with tthe CP Police than the Sandusky cops.

Are you a defense attorney AND still work at Cedar Point? Just curious. And CPPD takes a big proactive approach towards policing and that is why there is not a major crime problem at Cedar Point. Something that was said to me a while back, "If people are idiots in their home towns, they will be idiots at Cedar Point as well."
