Cedar Point Police

Hey, I was hired as a Non-Bonded Officer at Cedar Point for the 2006 season, I was wondering if anyone else in this forum works for the CPPD?

Know what shift? There are a bunch but they dont usually post that often

Not sure what shift yet, I think I will find out when I get down there.

You'll be working with a friend of mine. He's one of the higher-ups in the department.

and who is that? initals are ok

YOu are not the most liked people on the CP Payroll.. I was gonna do it, but tech services hired me.

SHHH! You're gonna scare the newbies...

But really, Security definately is not the most liked (well at least third/commons shift isn't).

They wouldn't be so hated if they didn't treat every employee that came in as a criminal.

Even if 99% of them are. :)

I hated the way security treated employees at night..

they are there for good reason. if you're smart and don't make yourself an ass, you don't have many problems. some young adults act so juvenile sometimes.

I agree with you cedarpointr0x. If you are not doing anything wrong, you should have nothing to worry about. People do need to grow up.

I never did anything wrong, however, I was searched like a common criminal nightly, and treated very poorly on a couple of other occasions.

OK, I dont want to create an argument but it comes down to one thing supervision. I have friends that work on other shifts say that third shift Commons is allowed more freedom and isnt discouraged from having attitudes because its "just employees". Supervisors/TLs (do they have equivalents?) should be down there making their patrol officers looks good. But they allow them to stand there with pop, food, and treat people badly. If any other employee did it they'd get written up (even employees OUT of public view). It really reflects badly on their department.

the comment about food seems made up... i have never seen officers "standing there with pop, food". they treat people badly? I have stood and watched people come in last year and never once saw anything bad. I will say that on several occasions I have seen employees disrespecting the officers- it may have resulted from being drunk, but that gives them no right to do that.

If employees could chill out and not fight at Louie's that'd be great too- that just shows the crap the officers have to put up with. Do they like having to take action against employees? No, but the employee is the one that makes those actions necessary.

Exactly, cedarpointr0x is right. From my experience if you treat cops with respect, they will treat you with respect. If you are a jerk to them, they aren't going to be friendly back to you. You need to think back to elementary school, when they said to treat others the way you want to be treated.

First, yes they do eat and drink on the job but are allowed to. Supervision isn't an issue ALOT of areas need to be covered during the night besides Bayside & Commons and it'd be impossible to constantly supervise everyone.

I'd say that the majority of officers that do not "treat employees well" are either first year or noncommissioned but think they are. As the saying goes: A few bad apples ruin the whole barrel. As all the previous posts said... respect them and they'll respect you (its can be a very stressful job). and if they dont thats what the employee management relations committee is for.

Last season, I had a bad ankle (again this year) Parked in Handicap (At Commons) W/ a VALID pass, after swiping my ID, I got yelled at by a officer, who did not think I had a parking pass (And I was treating him with respect, and offered to walk him to my car (All of 100ft) and he refused to talk to me or at least listen to what I had to say.. Lucky I knew a Sgt. had to call him up..

Thats about as worse as Ive seen them.

Sure you can whine and complain about 3rd shift all you want, but you do you call when you have a problem? I think that is always amusing...how people can badmouth and hate police, but the minute they need help, the police are the first to get called to help solve the problem. Always amusing how people can turn their attitude on a dime.

You know, there would be no need for the 3rd shift to spend their time down at the employee housing areas babysitting employeees, if Cedar Point hired decent respectable employees who knew how to behave and abide by the rules given to them and the laws of the State of Ohio. But that is what Cedar Point gets when they hire almost all of the employees by telephone interviews alone!! (except a few departments...CPPD being one). You can't tell who an employee really is by having a small chat with them over the phone. CP hires employees, that get trashed all the time, fight, steal, use illegal drugs, disobey guidelines that they agreed to follow, try to sneak non-employees into the housing areas, try to hide alcohol in their bags knowing that they are either underage or can't have liquor on property, and so on. I mean, there are employees that are so immature that they think pulling the fire alarms late at night is a damn game!!! Okay, so most of the employees are young, some fresh out of high school...but when you process in at Cedar Point there is no sign that says you can check your brain in at the door! Age is not an excuse to break laws and rules. Just because mommy and daddy are not there does not mean that you can misbehave. Believe it or not, it is possible to enjoy yourself and be responsible at the same time.

On the issue of respect...that goes both ways. I couldn't see people treating police in their hometowns the same way they treat CPPD. Officers off duty don't go to your work site in the park and start sh*t and give you an attitude....so don't do it at their work site. As for getting searched...you have a bag...some employees try to sneak items into the housing area in bags...its a preventative measure. Park guests get their bags checked while entering the park, it's life, and it's policy.

As for 3rd shift eating and drinking while at work. Well that is because they work 8 hours or more straight through with no breaks (that includes no lunch breaks either). So they are permitted to eat and drink while working. You don't see many other departments in the park that are never given breaks.

And Jason Luther, don't worry about any negative things that are said about CPPD, including 3rd shift. You'll have a fun summer and you will have a great time at work. You will have the opportunity to see some pretty interesting things. You will find out what shift you work at the mandatory orientation meeting. And if you get 1st or 2nd shift...be prepared for the V-neck tan line from hell ;) . Regardless of your shift, it will be great. The department is the best place to work in the park.

Well said "BoredOutOfMineMind" I agree with you on everything that you have said. And no worries about people saying negative things. I do a similar job here for the university police, and I am used to people trash talking me, haha. And I know it is going to be an awesome experience, and I am definitely looking forward to it.

True! My first year at Cedar Point, there was never any Cedar Point Police at Commons at night. There was never an issue at the gate with anything. Not so true anymore with the kind of employees they hire.

As for getting searched...you have a bag...some employees try to sneak items into the housing area in bags.

I like this policy. Why? Because while visiting a friend three years ago in one of the Commons apartments, another employee who lived with him was toting around the apartment with a gun. People DO try to bring in more then alcohol. Stupid policy now?

As for 3rd shift eating and drinking while at work.

Its funny, no one ever complains about Housing Supervisors eating food while sitting at their desks. I have seen that happen more then I have see the Police just chillin with food. Which, like Bored just said, is allowed.

BoredOutOfMyMind said it best. You want to argue with 3rd Shift, just read that post.
