I didn't have a problem with the security checkpoint at Carowinds. Sure it's inconvenient, but it doesn't last long. My comment was that I spent over a half hour in line for security at CP. If they are going to have this checkpoint, at least have enough staff.
I actually don't have a problem going through security checkpoints. It happens at just about any professional or college sporting event I go to. The issue I have is with consistency, professionalism, and efficiency. Why Sunday and not Saturday? Why not opening weekend? If CP is going to do this, then invest in the proper equipment and staff to do it right, and do it every day. If they need to set up some barriers to make it easier to understand where people need to go and to keep people from trying to "sneak in", then do it. Have staff that treats guests in the same courteous manner as the rest of the employees. I don't approach the security guards in any different manner than I approach the gate workers so why should I be treated any differently by them? They're working for and representing Cedar Point, and the expectations for them as far as their attitudes toward the guests shouldn't be any different than any other employees. Especially considering they are some of the first employees being encountered after the parking lot. We took a trip to Dorney Park a couple years ago, and went through a security tent every day. Never got delayed by more than a minute. Sorry, but a half hour delay to get in the park because of security is unacceptable to me. Finally, just use some common sense. There is no need to be wanding a girl walking in wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt. Trust me, if she was hiding something in there it would be pretty obvious.
There was no security check on Friday when I got there about 5:30pm. There WAS a security check yesterday morning when I arrived for early entry at 9am. It took me literally 2 minutes to get through the entire thing.

This has nothing to do with 9/11, if it did, why did CP wait 14 years to start this nonsense? It is so easy just to blame everything on 9/11 when the real problem is the mindset of our society these days. People seem to find it acceptable, even comforting, to be searched and checked because of an increasing mindset of fear and the belief that they are not safe unless someone is out there supposedly working for their safety. That is why it is called security theater. It won't stop a terrorist attack, but it will most likely keep people from sneaking beer into the park while providing the image that CP is actively working for their safety. Unfortunately, there are probably more people who are pleased with this than annoyed by it, and that is most likely the real reason they are doing it.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Pete. It's just an inconvenience more than anything while doing very little to stop anything bad from happening. Anyone determined enough will find a way.

I don't think it would've stopped any beer this weekend Pete. We were pulling my daughter's wagon in with us. We keep a blanket in it all the time to provide a cushion. The never once looked in the wagon. I could have had anything I wanted under there. :)
You're not even supposed to be scared of terrorism anymore. Now it's fear of rich people and Mexicans. Make America White, er, Great Again!

Thursday evening they made me start emptying pockets because of course I binged when they wanded me but they wanted me to do it just standing there not next to the table and I'm thinking seriously isn't this what the table is for and then after I emptied the pocket with the most stuff in it the guy seemed irritated that even though my hands were full I was still setting the thing off well I can't get the quarters out of my left coat pocket and the phone out of my right pocket while I'm standing here with my hands full of wallet, other phone, and camera.
We were there Thursday and each gate we used during the day, all four actually, at different times of the day, had half hearted wanding. Major pain to be stopped like that.

I have zero issues with metal detectors/screening at any venue, no matter what it is. What I do have a problem with is peeps who have their faces planted in their cell phones and as a result pay no attention to any signage or verbal instructions concerning the metal detectors. All they do is cause delays for others because they don't have their pockets emptied.
No issues here with whatever is needed to keep Americas Rollercoast safe and sound. If you don't like it go home. Inconvenience my ass, it's the world we live in unfortunately, it may be a pain at first but once they figure it all out it'll be like its not even an issue.
I hope CP does whatever to keep it safe. Don't need some yay-hoo screwing it up for the rest of us.
Thoughts and prayers for all those in Orlando.
Just saying, it doesn't make anyone safer, it just gives the illusion of safety. I don't mind it, but it can be done away with.
CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium
"Doing whatever it takes to keep America's Rollercoast safe" can be very effective without the security theater.

I agree with Pete. Although, I don't own a boat, I stay overnight at the resort property. Most people staying at the resort properties generally go back and forth between the parks. So having to be wanded multiple times a day could easily become very frustrating. If they "need" to do this, why not do it 4th of July Weekend, Columbus Day Weekend, Saturdays in July and Saturdays in October when the park is super busy compared to May, June, August, and September when the park is not "super" busy? It's not like they don't have enough security. Heck, they have a full police department with officers commissioned through the city of Sandusky Police Department, SPD. I take a bag to the park with me so I have somewhere to put my wallet, phone, keys, etc. while I have nothing whatsoever to hide, it becomes VERY irritating having to open the bag every time you go into the park.

I wear shorts with cargo pockets. Put everything in them and never had to open them or empty them. Damn, I hope I didn't just jinx myself.
Prayers for Christina. She had a beautiful voice....but as for the venue's security detail, that was piss-poor.
This is a real issue for me when I read lines, such as this past weekend, "He was carrying two loaded handguns, ammunition magazines to match, and a large hunting knife". How can a security detail sleep at night knowing they admitted someone past their line into the show to inflict that much harm?
Sure, make the argument that they don't have the funding, equipment, training...but if Cedar Point is going to subject me to their security protocol, it had better be the whole nine yards - metal detectors, strict bag checks, and pat-downs if you're too incoherent to empty your pockets of car keys (or handgun).
The days of "public trust" are over my friends, and security measures must follow...people are out there in this world to kill, and apparently innocent event-goers are the places to do it.
I hope Cedar Point will take this kind of thing as a lesson to improve/audit their security.

And this, my friends, is what it looks like when "the terrorists" have won. Using irrational fear to justify living in what amounts to a police state is essentially the stated mission of Al-Qaeda and/or ISIS.
