It's my seconds season and of the article is true. I hate it and the only reason I work there is too meet new people and to go to Louies.
The one pet peeve of mine is the employee cafeteria. They are making about 75% profit off of the food they sell. Most of the food is left over, or close to being thrown out, and they sell it to us. For example...a stale hot dog bun with 4 small meat balls costs $3??? And fries are now a $1.30 for half of the portion which is bull****.
I work a real job with a top 10 Fortune 500 company. Our cafeteria food sucks too. That isn't something exclusive to Cedar Point. Be glad they provide a cafeteria at all. They could not have one at all and expect employees to buy in park food.
After all (say it with me now) "People have to eat."

It's called work. It's supposed to suck!
It may suck for some, but it doesn't have to. I enjoy my job and love the industry I'm working in.

There is some truth but some of it exaggerated or over estimated...
This is my first season and so far I enjoy the company and the employment...There are some annoyances but it's not too bad...No reason to really discuss anything...A guest complaint is more serious than my nagging....Actually one...the cafe is a bit ridiculous..not ganna lie there...but that story has been repeated for years

You're totally right! Much better to pay $9 for a stale bun with meatballs on the midway, or $3 for the half fries right?
How about you pay $5 for a soda instead of them providing the vending machines?

Hahaha...This on guy posted this link on there facebook page, with a caption reading "All Cedar Point management is currupt, if they want you out they will do any and everything in their power to make sure they get rid of you" it was posted 3 seconds ago via facebook mobile, so I refreshed my computer to find the wall post had been removed! Lol... This begs the question. Is Cedar Point really a fun and happy place to work or is there something dark behind those smiles and happy music playing throughout the park?

At least when they offered bonuses it wasn't really beyond them to get rid of people to avoid having to pay a bonus.

Translation: My life sucks and I won't do anything about it. And my spelling and grammar sucks too, so this is going to be the highlight of my professional life.

The point people are trying to make about the cafeteria is that they are profiting off of their employees. Cedar Point isnt generous enough to offer their food at a lower cost for their staff.
It is lower cost. Just because it isn't low enough for you doesn't make it immoral.

Yeah, you're always free to bring a lunch. I would have liked to see lower prices, but it's still not outrageous to eat in there.
Trust me, I spend a lot more on lunch daily now then I ever did when I worked at CP.
the food in the caf was incredibly low cost. you could get triple the amount of food there than what they cost on the midway. what, do you want them to give it to you at cost? this is cedar point/fair they try to make a profit off everything. and the 20 cents they make off stuff in the caf isn't that bad. sure parts of that "article" is based on truth, but I've not experienced much of it and I've worked there for awhile. the year I was lifeguarding we ended up working 80 hour weeks near the end of the season because of people quitting. there wasn't overtime because of the seasonal labor laws, but we all knew that getting into it. were were overworked and tired? yeah. have I worked for worse companies? absolutely. I think the conditions are different depending on where you're working etc, ie... everybody has a different experience working for the park.

At the end of the day Cedar Point has a terrible company culture and they do not give a damn about anyone who works there. End of story.
If you say so it must be true. End of story.
I guess nobody in this forum can recognize that there are companys who treat their employees well and dont look down on them like theyre middle schoolers. I'm done arguing with you idiots. Go work at Cedar Point and have the time of your life. Its a great job.

you obviously haven't worked for a company that looks down on their employees like they are elementary schoolers. Or maybe you have since calling people idiots and storming off seems to be the way to fix things. plenty of people have said cedar point sucks to work for, however there are a LOT of jobs that are far worse with worse company cultures. and I don't see why you would even try to discourage/argue with people who view CP as "the time of your life" or a great job, obviously they are enjoying it and come back. I on the other hand did my short stint during a summer and decided I got enough of the company just working for halloweekends, any longer than the weekends for a couple months and I couldn't deal with it. and now I'm moving out of state for an even better job.
The reason you aren't making any progress in posting is because you aren't open to the idea that some people actually enjoy the park and management. personally I love some parts, and some parts are miserable. You gotta take the good with the bad, as is true in most jobs.

Remember.......YOU work while THEY play!
Exactly! That's why I never worked there, even though I lived 15 minutes away in Norwalk. And those God awful one-piece uniforms from that time period that the ladies wore.
I don't remember there being so many Europeans there, in the 80s and 90s. Maybe the conditions were better for locals? Who knows.
Don't even think about it, little boy. I will race you back to the Mean Streak and win.
I'm happy for those who have cushy jobs and comfort in what they are doing. I love my jobs and everything I do. But I still fear everyday the cutbacks and layoffs could come at any time. I don't know how many fortune 500 companies actually havent cut the dead weight since the 2008 crash.
With that said, I never see the headline, CP layoffs expected. Most quit or leave on their own. The door always been open to leave and find one of those great jobs you all speak of.
Oh, and as far as the cafe, take a business class and understand they have labor, product and bills to account for in that price. The cooked meals would compare to any supermarket's prices with fresh hot food. I will give you they will take overstock and make it the special often. It doesn't mean the food is bad. It just means they have more than they need.

I've been a member here for several years and I feel strongly that the author of that article is exactly correct.
Cedar Point has taken from the community for so long and has given precious little back. Say what you want about the article, but it is clearly TRUE and that tends to get the apologists upset. There is a need for a corporate change at Cedar Fair. It is my sincere hope that Matt Ouimet is given the free hand Disney gave him to change this for the better
