Cedar Point announces TT2 will be operational!

I am also skeptical that it is heat related issues but in reality there really aren’t any documented and studied coasters using LSM’s that launch a train forward then reverse up a 400’ spike followed by a final forward launch 420’ over a top hat.

That being said I am of the opinion that there are still issues with the trains. I’m at the park often and I never see maintenance working on the launch track but they are working on the trains almost non-stop. Could be harness / locking mechanism issues or something else.

I also think it’s well known now that the black train has vibration / shaking issues that the blue and silver do not have. My daughter and I noticed that opening weekend and the difference is strikingly obvious.

So is the ride running currently or not? Can’t tell from the recent posts.

It's currently running (sporadically). From my observations, it appears that a few things are going on.
1- Black train is getting some new road wheels.
2- The electrical room has a mobile industrial AC unit pumping some serious cooled air into it.
3- The switch track has been causing some problems.

I rode blue train on Wednesday and it seemed to be riding normally.

Hi everyone. I have lurked on here for a long time and this is my first time posting. I was at CP from June 9-11. Right after they reopened following the support welding. I managed to get 7 rides total across all 3 trains. As many have noted, the black train definitely has the worst vibration. However, I did notice it on all 3 trains. I used to ride TTD over and over and over without any discomfort. I was only able to ride TT2 twice in a row as it gave me a headache. Especially if I set my head against the headrest. Since all 3 trains are built the same, I was wondering if maybe they are testing different compound/hardness wheels on the black train. I wouldn't know or be able to tell by looking at them, but would assume if it was a harder material, it would have less shock absorption, or forgiveness, creating a harsher ride. Just a thought

I wonder if it would be too expensive to go back to the smooth and amazing hydraulic launch? (I’m only half kidding)

I'm going to revise my previous statement, and say that I think it is a bit more plausible that the closure was heat related. They have always had an air cooling system to cool the stators that line the track. When I was there Wednesday/Thursday, the stator cooling air sounded louder than I remember it being earlier in the season. Additionally, they have added a portable air conditioner to what I assume to be an electrical room. If it was heat related, I don't know why they didn't just make those changes overnight and operate the ride at a reduced capacity during the day.

They got three dudes wrenching on the stators today. Closed all day.

Sit tight fellas ;) Tall boys are chilling in the bushes.

Hopefully someone is keeping a tally of what days it is running and what days it is down.

Not sure how accurate it is

I was being somewhat funny with my comment, but I figured someone was tracking. But I didn’t expect to see it to the second.

I know some will say it’s still too early to say this but…… I think Zamperla failed.

^ I’m probably one of the biggest CP, Zamperla, TT2 apologists that there is but this is getting old. The ride is down again today and will not open. It’s not heat related issues today. I gave them a pass last year but they essentially had an entire year to collect real world data from the ride and fix things. At this point it’s becoming rather obvious that they still missed a few things.

That being said let’s not get into the whole Itamin thing, they have a complete book of screw ups…

I think what's happening is that each fix is causing other unforseen issues.

It's like putting a tourniquet on a bleed. It solves one problem but can lead to other damage.

Someone give TT2 a Viagra. That way they might be able to keep it up.

Yes, I get that everyone is disappointed with the reliability of the ride. In 2024, Top Thrill had about one week of full operations before they closed it for whatever the issue was with the trains. Now in 2025, the ride has had almost two months of full operations, they are uncovering all the issues one would normally expect to uncover in the first year. This is only the 3rd ride design to attempt these speeds with LSMs. (Superman/Tower of Terror was first, Red Force was 2nd). This is also the only ride of this scale to attempt a swing launch. If Ryan the ride mechanic is to be believed, swing launches are far more complicated than using LSMs to launch in a single direction. Again, all of this this is very disappointing, but you'll just have to have patience while they work all the bugs out.

Promoter of fog.

^^ I think you're giving this first year ride thing a bit too much credence. TT2 spent years in the design phase, which included engineering. Engineering should be able to anticipate issues. Not only that, but they had hundreds of test cycles last year before opening to the public, only to shut down days later. THEN, on top of that, they had a whole 'nother year to get it right. Clearly they haven't..

I agree that they are experiencing first year issues now, as this is essentially the first year of operations.

I also agree that there have been a number of engineering shortcomings with this ride, and the optics aren't good after the complete failure of the original train design.

And I also think they'll eventually get it figured out and running reliably, even if that takes another offseason.

The overheating electrical / controls equipment that required a portable cooling unit is understandable. We also struggled with temperature control in some of our rack rooms and sub-stations with the heat wave last week.

I am not sure if the recent launch track issues and the ongoing train struggles are related or not but they very well could be. I really haven't paid too much attention to whatever is going on with the trains but I have noticed quite often that the seat backs are off when a train is taken out of service so I assumed it was restraint issues.

It does appear that TT2 is taking the brunt of the downtime criticism which is giving MF a pass for the struggles over there. Red train is still partially missing a few cars and now blue train is down leaving only 1 train operating yesterday. I understand things happen, perhaps I just had my hopes set too high for TT2 this season as it had a great run the first few weeks it was open.

I’ve noticed recently that the crew has been telling people “it won’t open for atleast 2 hours, atleast 3.5 hours, etc.” even though the ride is testing. I wonder where these estimates comes from and how often they are accurate.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!
