Cedar Point - not all its supposed to be

I totally agree, if I even get to see a train launch that would almost be satisfying enough for me, todays scare almost gave me a heart attack!

Whew, what a day.

One word.... Karma

ONE freeway stamp a day... ONE

I still don't understand how one ride being down pisses so many people off, especially when they very well know in advance that it could be down. For god's sake, you still have MF which is THE #1 steel coaster in the world, and the 3rd tallest in the world. You also have two other top 25 steel rides in Magnum and Raptor, not to mention the other 12 running coasters. Would you be more or less pissed if they hadn't built TTD at all and you were guarenteed not to get a ride on it? I guess I don't understand some people...

i know. the second you ride it, you will change your mind about it. and you shouldnt look at how long the line says. both times i went on it the wait was about an hour, and the first time the wait outside said 4 hours and the second time it said 2 1/2. the wait also seems to go by fast since you can watch peoples reactions to the ride and you move a lot.

------------------
Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more cowbell!

Odd as it may sound...I understand both points of view!

1. It really sucks when the tallest, fastest coaster in the WORLD isn't running, and you missed your chance to ride it when you only had a short time frame to ride it in, because you have to work n' such.

2. How often is a coaster of this magnitude built, and has been fully functional? None. I guess a person should expect bugs in something that is being tried for the first time. The park has many other coasters and events to be there for...take it with a grain of salt, or plan the trip when you KNOW the tallest, fastest coaster in the WORLD WILL be fully functional.

No one is 100% correct in this case. However; the first post in this thread appeared to be just a pouty rant. Had the poster put in a few good points, then the post probably would have been wonderful.

Speaking as a Season Pass Holder (which I am)...I found the part about season pass holders would sit and wait for the ride to open for two hours untrue. I myself wouldn't do that BECAUSE I AM a pass holder...I realize I could ride it another time, and find myself looking to do other activities besides wait two hours in line. Season Pass holders are not all that "Whoop de do" as most people would think. I personally find it nice that I can take in a "show day" or a "coaster day" or a "walk around and look at people day." No...I'm not there every day...I go when I can, and truly enjoy myself when I do. Season passes are nice because you can be a bit more relaxed and not so uptight about this ride being down, or that ride being down and then "Now what do we do?" However; I still feel for the people who come from all ends of the earth JUST to ride Top Thrill Dragster. Yes, it must be very dissapointing to get there and find it not running...however...maybe these people should plan their trip for next year when it will more than likely be more reliable.

Like I said...I can see both sides, and not one is more valid than the other.

Pessimist (sp): "I came here to ride the best coaster in the world, and it's not running...now I have to settle for all these other rides."

Optimist: "I came here to ride the best coaster in the world, and even though it's not running...there are so many other things to do here!"

There are only two ways to look at it when you are in their shoes. I guess it all depends if you are a more positive, or more negative type of person.

Kyle, there is a limit to how long your sig should be. That's just insane. :)

But anyways, I agree with Coasterluver, there are definitly 2 sides to the story.

I'll be making my first trip ever to Cedar Point and am very very much looking forward to riding Top Thrill Dragster, and yes I will be disappointed if it's not running, but I am prepared for that, and will not let it ruin my trip. There is still the #1 roller coaster in the world to try, and the #3, and #12, and a whole lot more.

Just walking through those gates into the park will bring a smile to my face, and that's the magic of Cedar Point.

its too bad you flew all that way and couldnt find a way to have fun. two days in the park and you had THAT bad of a time? its VACATION, relax.

rock and roll. deal with it.

Kid, like you, I am making my first trip of the year in September. I too will be (very) disapointed if TTD isnt running (pissed actually after a 12 hour drive), but will have a HUGE smile on my face just walking through the gate.

I did want to point out that THE #1 coaster in world is RoS at SFNE - Millie is great, but falls a bit short after that first kick ass drop.

I too travelved from Los Angeles to go on TTD. Having rode every other of CPs 15 coasters,

You rode Jr. Gemini?

If you noticed when I wrote that reply it was still the #1 coaster. Instead I'll be riding the number 2,4,10,11,and 50 steel coasters in the world, and the number 35 and 49 wooden coasters in the world. How will I ever manage? ;)

I’m pretty sure that when Japan opened up their big roller coasters in the last three years, they didn’t have this many problems or delays.

Well, saying that Steel Dragon 2000 just DERAILED a few weeks ago... ^_~

And Steel Dragon's problem was a much bigger deal than any of Dragster's problems, since guest safety on the train was severely compromised.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

For the record for the 500th time:

I am not a season pass holder. I live four hours away from the park. I work for a living and have to plan my vacation 6 months in advance. I can not pick up and go whenever I want. I go to Cedar Point ONCE per year. When I went it was in the mindset of " I have had fun ever other year and I will have fun even if TTD is not running." I went the first day...was it running? Nope. Did I go back to my Hotel and Rant and Rave and Piss And Moan and make the park sound like a ****hole because of it??? NO. The people that use the "the only people who don't get upset about it running" defense is BS. Don't use it.

This is repling to davejeep's post. (even though it was probably posted long ago, didnt see the date) You can't just plan your trip around just one thing, espically riding all the coasters. Cedar Point has many other things to offer that are really fun, instead of just waiting in line forever! Check out some of the restraunts! Awesome food. There is also the option of renting jet skis. Even though I didnt do it, it looked fun. Another is going out to the beach and just swimming if the water is right. It feels great just to float about in the waves as they bring you back into shore. Even though I am a coaster enthusiast myself, I also enjoy doing all of these things as well. If you go again, plan to do some other stuff at CP instead of just riding. Althuogh i do agree with you that a lot of rides are down most of the time (at least on Fridays). We went for a 3 day stay, and on our final day (Friday), it was horriable. Almost every coaster that we went around to was broken down. Mean Streak, Mantis, TTD, Wildcat. It did seem pretty dumb. And this meant, with all those closed, lines for like Iron Dragon, whihch was less than 4 minutes on wednesday, was now 45 minutes. It was pretty nuts!

So you are telling me that you would put out the newest technology and expect it to run completely, fully, and always?

I think not. This technology is first introduced into Top Thrill Dragster. Do you expect the first of a kind to work perfectly? Think before you speak...

To the original poster:

All of this complaining about your vacation to CP not going perfectly is ridiculous. Sometimes vacations just don’t go smoothly. I’ve planned backpacking trips where I’ve traveled halfway across the country only to find the trails are impassible because of bad weather. Do I sit around blaming God (or Mother Earth or whatever else you may believe in) for ruining my vacation? No, I make do, and find something else to do.

Making the best of a bad situation has nothing to do with having low expectations. If your expectations are not met because of circumstances beyond your control, there is no reason to sulk about it.

If you don’t think people on this board are critical of CP, read this trip report: http://www.guidetothepoint.com/cpplace.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=13171

If you get disappointed that easily, I would suggested locking yourself in your room and save yourself the aggravation.
