Cedar Fair buys SFWoA

I see both ways at the moment as to why CF Season Passes should and should not work at the park(s) Formerly known as Geauga Lake and Seaworld formerly known as Six Flags Ohio and formerly know as a combined Six Flags Worlds of adventures. Or TPFKAGLSWFKASFOFKAACSFWOA which will now be known as Geauga Lake again for the 2004 season. (hm sounds a bit like Prince, I mean Symbol, I mean Prince)

Anyways, should CF passes be used at Geauga Lake this summer, I would hope that those who have bought both a Pass for SFWOA and Passes for CP are given a 30 dollar refund, depending on when they purchased their 04 CP pass, for the difference between the SF and CP pass prices. Also, I would hope that Six Flags would give the SP holders an option to either give up their season pass or keep it to be used at CP and All Six Flags parks for the 04 season.($100 [direct from CP].

The Season pass situation will definitly be one to watch closely for. Now as Jef Spartan mention, because of this reason SP may not be transferable until 05. Which is a bummer for sure. But definitly makes sense. However I do remember hearing that Michigan Adventure passes were being accepted at CP shortly after the purchase that summer.

I am beginning to wonder what this may do for the actualy physical location for Cedar Fair itself. Will the company move from CP to a more central location between Cedar Point and Geauga Lake within 10 years or so, or will it remein at CP. This is a great opportunity to Separate CF and CP on the peninsula for further developement in years to come. No I am not saying there is a space problem at CP, but an ability to expand the worlds greatest park even more for future families to enjoy.

On the flip side historically CF belongs on the CP peninsula and should remain.

I don't think we'll see national commercials for awhile, but think of the possibilities. Suddenly CF can join up with other area vacation spots and event areas (Rock and Roll hall of fame, Blossom, Downtown Cleveland shopping, Lake Erie Cruises, etc...) and come up with great vacation packages. We could more than likely very well, start seeing Castaway bays sprouting up across the Northern Ohio mainly in the Cleveland area. Put out some Kissimme(sp?)/St. Cloud style commercials, and boom you have a large area to accept and hold large crouds. The year round resorts to bring in year round revenue, and the Major city to provide more to do than just some parks.

Ok so that seems a little promising, and maybe a dream. But it is possible now. I think CF has the ability to do it to.

I'm sorry, but *no one* will get on an airplane to fly to northern Ohio in January, no matter how many indoor water parks there are.
Chew on this for a minute. If SixFlags season passes are accepted at CP this year, how crowded are those midways gonna be? The SF passes are dirt cheap. Next, Jeffrey Spartan mentioned buying your immediate competition. Vince McMahon did that when WWF bought WCW. He promptly buried and killed the WCW brand. Here's hoping Dick Kenzel is smarter than Vince McMahon!! :)

But then again, what do I know?

I know, If I had to fly on a plane to get here I wouldn't either. If I didn't have so much family here in Northern Ohio, Id move to a much warmer climate.

That's why I suggested it as being a little promising and maybe a dream.

Personally, I'd like to see the wildlife side turned into a major resort. Imagine cottages ala Lighthouse Point on the lake?

Regardless, it's going to take some time before real improvements are seen.

Especially considering the problems I've seen reported regarding the residents on that side not being happy about having rides built "in their back yards". I think they'd be more willing to have something small and quiet, like the cottages.

Well, that just doesn't make sense. Why would CP suddenly accept SFGAdv or SFMM or SFDL passes because they bought Geauga Lake?

There's no logic there at all.

I wonder if the people that were hired to work there are gonna keep there jobs or if Cedar Fair will hire new people.

Exactly, Lord Gonchar, good point. I didn't think about that when I read Shane's reply, but I did make the suggestion, that SF could offer to their WOA pass holders the option of not having a pass, or keeping their SF pass, and being able to use it CP and all the SF parks through an agreement with CF. But that would only be for the WOA pass holders only not for any other SF pass holders. This wouldn't really affect CP attendance very much anyways, except maybe a few more repeat visits.

But how would they know if they pass was gonna be used for WOA. I thought that the Six Flags season pass looked the same for every park.

Well, SFWOA passes specifically, I can understand (although I wouldn't count on it), but SF passes in general isn't going to happen.

They all have the same designs and use the same cards, but each one says the park name on it. It's printed in under the SF logo when the pass is made

Looking at my SFWOA pass compared to my daughter's SFA pass as I type this...

My somewhat informed feeling on the staffing situation is that the folks from the wildlife side are going to be gone. No animals means no animal staff.

I think everyone on the ride side will probably be talked to in the coming days and determinations will be made as to whether or not they will have a role in Cedar Fair management.

Ok I did not know that thank you.

This is probably a stupid question but, will all the rides be renamed or left the same?
Agreed Cheif. Also, I doubt there would be much affect in the seasonal side.

I don't really see CF having to to some emergency hiring. Most of the hiring has already taken place by SF. All they really have to do is train them CF style when they come to work.

Agreed, I am talking strictly about the year round staff, not the seasonals.

I know. I agreed about the year round staff.

Two thoughts:

- CF has experience hiring in tight job markets. At one time, MN's unemployment rate was between 2 and 2 1/2 percent and the state literally laid off unemployment office staff!

- Free admission to CP should make a GL job a little more attractive.

SFWOA passes should still be good at Six Flags parks, plus Geauga Lake.

Cedar Point passes should be good at all Cedar Fair parks, Geauga Lake included.

If the current thinking is something else, I hope they reconsider. It would be an excellent opportunity to "reintroduce" some folks to Geauga Lake. Folks who wouldn't otherwise come because of the bad taste they were left with. Cedar Fair is missing an opportunity if they don't allow admission for CP pass holders.

I can hardly wait to ride X-Flight when it's staffed properly, maintained properly, and folks actually know how to operate the ride.

Hey, I heard a rumor that Millennium Force is sinking...

Without the dorms Cedar Point would have a more difficult time hiring than they do now. I agree that it won't be long until we see some employee housing near Geauga Lake.
