Cedar Creek Mine Ride?

Well i have been thinking alot lately about this ride. I understand why its good for our little coaster freaks. But come on the the ride is pointless. You go up ten feet and drop 2 feet at a tremendous speed of half the speed of smell. Why not save our selves from the misery of watching little OLD women screaming there lungs out and tear down this thing. Lets take it down and build a new thrill ride or smaller faster coaster? There is plenty of room there for a good thrilling ride. Is there a reason why Cedar fair is keeping this ride up becides the fact its for the younger folk?

Because it shows history cedar point wants to have a park for yes the thrill seekers but the younger and older crowd as well. and its a nice ride to just enjoy and take a break

What's Life If You Never Get To The POINT?...see yall in line!

I've never been on Cedar Creek Mine Ride, but I have been on Gold Rusher at Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is also an Arrow Mine Train, but built 2 years later.

Personally, I think it's fun to ride older coasters like this, mostly due to the amount of timelessness and nostalgia in them. I'm not sure about the layout of Mine Ride, but Gold Rusher has a cool little helix at the end, and it's fun to just scream for the heck of it, even though you know you're only going around 40 mph.

I understand your comment about "younger folk" and "little old ladies screaming their lungs out"... but... not everyone likes thrill rides that don't fall into the previous two categories. And personally, I don't think that a park that has ONLY thrill rides and mild kiddie rides would go over well. There has to be something in the middle; like, what other reasons would you go on a log flume other than to get wet? I do it because I like the scenery, and it's a change from coasters for a minute.

I hope I made my point.

2009: I REALLY want to come back, we'll see
2008: CP&LE Railroad/Monster/Witches' Wheel

I would be really sad if they tore down CCMR. It is a classic and is history at CP. I actually enjoy riding it and I am a coaser freek! I always think of it as Frontier Towns main attraction. Whenever I think of Frontier town I think of CCMR.

Trust me, Cedar Point has already torn down enough nostalgia that most young people now won't ever know the true history of Cedar Point unless they read it in a book. We don't need them to tear down another ride just to replace it with another so called "family ride" aka: Maverick

A "family ride" Well that Family ride is the best ride in the park right now.

I know a lot of people who are in their twenties and thirties who have very fond memories of riding CCMR as kids and always want to ride it when they go. Rides for kids are not only important in terms of getting big families who spend money in the gate now, but getting kids to associate the park with having a good time so they'll keep coming back as adults. It's the same reason McDonald's started building playgrounds in front of some of their restaurants.

That ride is not going anywhere. The ride has been there for a long time. I rode it growing up, and I still ride it with my kids. It still has market power to draw people to the park. Without it, Cedar Point could not claim "More roller coasters than any other park." The park has room to build more coasters. They will get creative in deciding where to put them. Look where they put Raptor. They put the station in a small area, and built the coaster over the midway. Magnum has the station inside the park, but the coasters track runs outside the park. I hope they keep building other rides becides coasters.

CCMR is a keeper. Good fun, unexpected thrills and nostalgia are but a few of it's merits. It's not the tallest, fastest, etc, etc, but nothing is for long anymore. The comment "You go up ten feet and drop 2 feet at a tremendous speed of half the speed of smell." is just wrong....buy a tape measure!

I believe that's a matter of opinion.

Okay, CCMR was my first "big rollercoaster" when I was like 10. It inspired me to go on everything else. Heck I remember the first time I went on it with my godfather.

Plus that when I went with my school, my best friend and I and a couple other people that we knew went on it and we got stuck on the chain of the second hill and of course everyone was like "awww man!" But only my best friend would say... "LIZZY! Your huge whale tail got everyone stuck! Way to go fattie." Then everyone turned around a looked at me then of course I had to say "Sorry guys!"

Insiders+history of that ride=fun times that I'll never forget. Let's not tear it down :)

So stoked for 2010 :]

Then you go on to give examples of people who are enjoying it. So clearly it's not pointless. If you want taller and faster, you've got plenty of other options.

If you wanna create space by tearing down a coaster then Mine Ride is not the answer. Tearing down Mean Streak is what I would do. Not only would you free up a lot more space, but I don't think anyone would miss Mean Streak. It is the worst coaster there!! I would rather ride Mine Ride any day over Mean Streak.

^Umm I don't think it is the worst coaster up their...You forgot something named "Disaster Transport". I also think Cedar Point wanted Mean Streak to last more than 17 years. Also (I know this had to do with Maverick) but last year Mean Streak had an up in the amount of riders.

Granted SFMM got rid of Psyclone after 16 years....

Mean Streak is a good coaster. It may not be right for everyone, but the people that like it, really enjoy it. I have had bad rides on it, but I have also enjoyed it.

the ride is marketed as a family thrill ride and there is no thrill involved in riding CCMR. So it's pointless.

So since it's only good at thrilling younger kids and not adults, they should rip it out? Good logic there! A family can ride CCMR together and while a parent might not be as thrilled as riding, their children will be. Just because you or someone else doesn't find it thrilling, is no reason to say its pointless. If you are not excited about it, there are other coasters to ride.

I think as old as CCMR is, it still has some fun to it and besides its a classic like Blue Streak. Do you think Cedar Point would ever think of tearing down Blue Streak and replacing it with something "more thrilling". Whenever I talk about Cedar Point to family members they always ask "Is that old blue coaster near the front of the park still there?" (something along those lines) and I'm able to say to them that its still there. Everyone will remember ther first ride and will keep them comping back.

too much talk about "tear down" --- not good --- there is lots of room for new stuff at CP (could be discussed in another thread). Someone spoke of Disney in another thread post .... CP cannot be compared to Disney and vice versa for logical reasons. CP is a seasonal operation, therefore has to deal with the issues that go along with that... it still offers great fun to all us folks in the lower Great Lakes tourist area. There is only a few million of us!

You will not get the thrills of CP rides at Disney. /// You will not get the Disney experience at CP...spend your entertainment $$$ wisely.

P.S. Any tips on getting into Club 33 at Disneyland on short notice?

CCMR is a great ride.
