Castaway Bay

I just noticed before that they now have a link to Cedar Point's new waterpark Castaway Bay on their website.

I have no doubts this thing will bring in the cash during the winter months. But, during the summer will customers just stay at the resort rather than head up the road to Soak City or vice-versa?

I think it's going to be kick a$$, and a first rate resort. I am excited to seeing it finished, and might just have to stay there.

It really looks like a great place. I never expected a Master Blaster, that was a nice surprise. The water park looks much nicer and more comprehensive than what Great Bear offers. Definitely looks like a stay next winter at Castaway Bay is on the agenda.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I was very impressed by the Master Blaster, and I found it amusing that they have brought back Monty's construction diary. I'm with everyone else who wants to check it out next winter, it sounds great.

I really wish you could just go for the waterpark and not have to stay there to use it.

I'm sure CP will do a package deal for hotel guests to make use of both worlds (CB and SC). I really like the idea of a master blaster, that will be sweet! This is a very smart business move! The 6,000 sq.ft. arcade sounds interesting also.

Evolution its a LIE
I wonder who will work there, and what it will be like. I can't imagine that there will be housing available. . .but still, it seems like there will need to be quite a few employees. . .will they all be from the immediate area? I suppose that people will step up to the opportunity to work in this new place. I wonder if there will ever be a CP ESD night at the new indoor waterpark. : )

I'm pretty sure that people who work at the Radisson and aren't from the area can live in CP housing. It would kind of be like working at Breakers Express, they're allowed to live in CP housing. That place looks awesome! I can't wait to go!

With all the posts this may get, would it be possible to create a new link for Castaway Bay on the CPPlace homepage.

...I too agree that this is just what Cedar Point needed to follow up with. This is gonna be a great place

...ESD events...that would be awesome (but closing it to the GP) during the summer...I don't know how well that will float over (we saw the problems they had with TTD)

A new forum topic for Castaway Bay would be cool. Maybe instead of just limiting it to Castaway Bay, a new forum could be created that included all the Cedar Point Resorts, new and old.

The employee housing isn't currently open year round is it?

I don't think so, so yes, that would be a problem then. :)

The Bayside apartments have heating and can be occupied year-round. It is conceivable that Castaway Bay staff could live there.

The staffing issue is interesting. It's not unreasonable to think staffing could come from the local area. There's a pretty large workforce that's already used to this industry. A lot of area hotels cutback during the off-season. Great Bear Lodge didn't seem to have trouble filling positions. Plus, the Radisson already has a staff in place.

The interesting part is the new competition. Kalahari will be opening soon enough - plus the rumors of #4 and #5. Kalahari is going to be huge. That's a lot of jobs to fill. Looks like the residents of Erie County will come out ahead with the new jobs, tax revenue, and off-season money boost.

There are a lot of Cedar Point employees who would work year 'round given the chance.

The issue gets into employment laws. If someone works 40 hours per week for a given number of weeks in a year, they must be considered full-time employees and get all the benefits that go with that.

Presumably there will be some management-type folk who will be full-time employees but I would guess that most of the guards would be part-time.

More interesting will be the implications for overtime. Since Castaway will not be "seasonal", it will not have the overtime exemption that the parks/other resorts do.

On the other hand, because the work is not seasonal, it will be easier to get local folks to fill the jobs rather than try to attract transient college/international kids.

Isn't there still going to be a 3rd indoor water park somewhere there in sandusky ? I thought I had read that somewhere...
