Capacity-word of the day.

I sure hope they get better. I am planning on going next week and I don't know if I would wait more than 2 hours to ride it. I am planning on going during the week and maybe that will make a difference.

The only way TTD is going to be able to be at top capacity is if operations and maintenance get more time on the ride without riders. That means that the ride might open late or not at all once they go to daily operation - the sacrifice of having a smooth operating summer.

Now I realize that I don't know anyting about getting a ride open, but can't they get time without the riders on weekdays before the park opens and after it closes?

Coincidence?

I went to SFWoA on Saturday for opening day and believe me, CP definately has thier act together compared to them.

Scott,

Just curious on what you meant by that statement exactly. I was at SFWoA and did not see any 5+ hr waits.

If this ride was at SFWoA, it wouldn't open until July ... at which point 3 trains would be considered "full capacity."

SFWOA, well I heard that SUE was in pieces on the ground, not on the track. X-Flight only had one train on which wasstill reclining in the station. The other was in pieces on the ground near the station. And BKF, was running with breakdowns, but they never opened the queues, just a single lane (like fastpass) and the line was out in the midway. But the good news (cough) is Villian was running 2 trains and was pretty good I hear.

To all of you complaining about your wait on the ride. Do not blame Cedar Point and the Ride Operators. It WAS your choice to wait in line was it not. You saw the sign that said how long the wait was. So it was your choice to wait that long. If you didn't want to wait that long then why were you in line. Let me say it again it was your choice to be in line so don't complain.

Sure they can, but I don't think a few hours here or there are going to do the trick. I'm all for keeping the ride open everyday this year, but I'm more for having it run at full capacity and I'd be willing to sacrifice a some dead days during May to get it there quicker.

They've proven that the ride works. Now they make to need it work better.

I waited 6 hours yesterday for my ride, which is ridicules for Cedar Point. Don't get me wrong it was worth it, waited for the front too. But what got me is that Cedar point looked unprepared for opening day. They only ran 3 trains all day, so the ride was basically running at half capacitiy. You would think that CP would anticipate a ton of people coming foropening day just to ride this ride, and would have had all 6 trains up and running.
I would venture to guess CP will be running the ride for quite a bit of time this week (Monday thru Thursday). My guess would be by FRIDAY, we'll see better capacity with a "goal" of full 6 train operation ASAP.

It had better be, especially with ERT 8-9:30...:)

Speed Freaks - 2003

After an hour or so in line, around 10:30, my friend started timing how long it takes for a train to launch. It averaged about 3min for a single 12 passenger train to launch. (even though it states that it holds 16 maybe it has something to do with the "train occasional not clearing the hill")

Anyway, lets do the math, 12 passengers every 3min = 240 people per hour!! Thats FAR from the 1500 guests per hour that CP claimed. Even at 2min per 12 passenger train is only 360 guests per hour.

Although your right, it was your own choice to get it line, Cedar Point wasn't prepared for the grand opening of the TTD.

Unless I've missed something, I don't understand where this 6th train has run off to. I read in the paper today that only "3 of 5" trains were running, and that we should expect the sixth train along with the extra car per train to arrive in a few weeks. Maybe something broke during testing...on the good side the paper did say to expect 5 train operation this weekend, so capacity shouldn't suck as bad as opening day.

Richard, what'd you do?

ONE freeway stamp a day... ONE

I'll say it again: patience, people. This isn't an "off the shelf" ride. They did what they needed to to get it running. Had it been any other park, there would've been a sign out front and nobody would've got a ride.

I've seen enough new rides open to realize this was a good opening. They told everybody before they got in line how long the wait would be, and everybody piled in anyway. And everybody got a ride.

And if you were expecting any ride anywhere to run 100% on its first day, you haven't paid much attention to the information on these boards.

Without upstops, airtime would have a whole new meaning!

God will you guys PLEASE stop whining about the capacity on opening day, and only running with 3 trains. At least it was open, lets be greatful for that. They could have just said, we can't run all the trains so the ride will be closed for opening weekend, which is what other parks might have done. But no, CP went and arranged for at least 3 trains running so you, the general public, could ride the best coaster ever made on May 4th. So instead of complaing CP was not prepared for opening day, say Thank You CP for having TTD open for us on opening day even though it was not fully ready to go.

I saw no problem with the ops...see my Trip Report (in the respective area) to see what I think caused the longer lines. I waited 5 and a half hours. I had no problem with the crew...they seemed to be getting the people into the trains fast, and I didn't get any bad vibes from any of them...at 7:30 at night.

OMG! The Space Spiral is leaning!!" Must be the weight of that new air conditioning system everyone keeps hypothesizing about...
I waited 6 hours and it was worth it. Had I known it would be 6 instead of the 4 they said, I probably wouldn't have ridden it. With that said, I'm glad I did.

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

I thought I had it bad with a 3 hour wait, I think after the 5 hour mark I would have been reaching for my belt to hang myself. lol.
Myself, I watched the ride a few different times throughout the day, and personally I felt the crew did a great job considering. I mean, look at MF it's first season. I remember reading about half the season they ran with only 2 trains, etc., etc. It just takes time to get it down. I know my first couple weekends on Raptor, it took me some time to get used to what I was doing. Imagine a whole crew that is new to a ride. I would imagine that within the next couple or 3 weeks, they'll have it down, and everyone will be happy. :)

Raptor crew did pretty well, I thought. The air gates are going to be nice, but after talking to Mike (TL), sounds like the crew is having a tough time hitting interval, what with new people added in with those air gates. I think once the newbies get broken in and used to the work, and the whole crew gets used to the air gates, it's going to make the crew's lives a whole lot easier, and it'll be running just as well as always.

~no replacement for displacement, except for that big freakin' turbo hanging on the front...

I came to the conclusion, that even though, yes TTD was open, taking into consideration the rest of the factors, it would have been better if the park opened TTD, or even moved opening day to this upcoming weekend, instead of trying to race around getting a half job done.
