When dealing with the concept of franchises at CP, you have to take into account which franchise CP is getting. There are plenty of franchise concepts that are unique enough where many people have not been to one. Famous Dave's BBQ has maybe 100 restaurants around the country, and only 3 in Ohio including CP. I've never been to one until CP opened their's. It's been a great addition, and I feel it's unique enough to make the franchise stigma a non-issue, especially in the way they put CP memorabilia on the bar.

Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville has 7 establishments in the world, with 5 being in the U.S. I'm not even sure if they franchise, they may all be company owned. But, it is certainly a unique enough place. The combination of live entertainment, dining and drinking would tremendously improve CP's nightlife.

Build a place like that, maybe also add a comedy club and some outdoor tiki bar type place, and tie it together with Famous Dave's. Find a way to get water in the mix with enough boat docks and advertise it separately from CP. Keep it open 'till 2:30 am. I think they would really have something.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

In regards to the hotels, while franchising may not be the best idea, its alot better than the current option in the hotels. I've eaten at all the places and they all were nothing to remember and definately not worth the food except TGIF. Breakwater this year was just aweful. Also with a good francise you get certain standards that have to be followed including using higher quality foods.

People just do not want to waste their money on a knock off of a franchise and get food that is barely to college dorm food standards. THe perfect example is hotel foods because nothing but the fridays are open after like 10p and they are packed before that.

Also the boat dock idea is also a good idea, TGIF at castaway can have those docks packed some nights.

That's a good point about quality standards. At least the franchises have a minimum standard (though Johnny Rockets is a low standard anyway). Places like Friday's and Dave's aren't serving culinary masterpieces, but the food is better than most of the junk you buy in the park.

If I were in charge, I'd build a little area outside of Breakers like the one at the Margaritaville end of City Walk in Orlando. There's Margaritaville on the one side of the "midway," with a big sea plane on the other side, tables, chairs overlooking the lagoon, and a little bar. It feels very Key West for lack of a better term. It's fun, and a great atmosphere.

MrScott:

I actually have been looking into LHP for next year's trip. This year 4 people stayed in the infamous Belair Section for $200/night for 3 nights. Next year we are (roughly) looking at 9 people for 5-6 nights in mid June or mid August. Any advice would be appreciated!

Save your money

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

marvina1216,

9 is a bit many to fit in one cabin/cottage. They sleep 6 comfortably. Maybe you are thinking of booking 2?

Yes, right now I am looking at booking two. I know that it will be pricey, but spending a week down the shore is just as bad price-wise, if not worse.

Plus, Jersey sucks anyway. ;)
