Yes, I did a search for this rather than starting anew... :)
I was looking for this info. (the names of the robots). Is there anyone else who would please like to add to this? I'm trying to compile all the info I can about the theming and the original state of the ride for the Disaster Transport 80... sort of like a handbook for participants.

If you've got the right riding partner (my PIC)...
the entire ride is the best part!! :)

If I cant ride it, rope it, pull a trailer behind it, then I dont want it!! Cowgirl up!!
DT is a great ride. It's hard to pick out my favorite part. I'm not the crazy about the helix. The sled seems to throw you around if your in the back. I'd have to agree with an earlier post that when you come out of the helix is the best part. The 'I'm loosing control section...'.

Get with it or die in the process.....
I remember when the robot arms next to the repair bay shuttle used to move and spark as if it really was being repaired. And the superb logo on the entrance wall with all the posters: LA, San Francisco, New York, Cairo, Paris, London I think...
I like the whole ride, but then again, having worked it, walked the track, cleaned it, seen it with the lights on, test ridden in the rain, all that helps! This ride is definately my baby.

My favorite part of Disaster Transport is definitely the strobe and black lights. I have not been on many themed rides but I loved this one! In my opinion, lighting is the key factor of this ride. Going from the black lights in the station, to the lift hill "surrounding" lights, into total darkness is an amazing effect. It boggles the senses!
My favorite part of Disaster Transport are the areas where it is pitch black. I think it would be neat to try and make the whole ride completely dark, for a day or so, just to see what happens response-wise and how it affects the ride as a whole.
The fact that I have NEVER fallen out ;)
For some unknown reason, Disaster Transport has ALWAYS scared me with the fact that I am going to fall out...especially when I went earlier in the year and it was all black...I screamed like a little baby :)...I have no prob with Millie, Maggie, Mean Streak (my favorite ride in park)...but Disaster does "something" to me...
mikey, who thinks that participating in the DT 80 will help him get over this fear :)
they ar eletting that ride fall apart but i think it is still a great ride. there is some kind of drywall stuff ithink lying all over the line all the cool black lights are normall and the briefing doesnt even work when your going up the hill. That says were going out off controll.
I have to agree with Crystal... riding it in the rain, walking the trough, working on it. That ride was my home for 3 years and will always be my ride. As for it being completely dark, will not happen. There needs to be some sort of light so the shuttles can be seen in the cameras. I agree it would be cool though.

The black lights have been taken out becouse the walls have been painted for Halloweekends.
Unless it was changed by the recent remodeling, you can see a little piece of Avalanche Run's decor by looking outside of the Bay Harbor Inn. The railing that runs around the outside of Bay Harbor was taken from the entrance of AR when it was changed to DT.
My two cents -- DT is and has always been a loser of a ride. When everything was new and working, younger kids seemed to like the effects and that was probably the best part. When it was AR it was dull and seemed way too short but it looked great sitting by the beach in that part of the park. DT is so ugly!
The best part will be when they demolish it.
I like the drop at the beginning! When you drop and turn all of a sudden!

It's a choice!
DT is a ride that grows on you. The first time I rode it as AR. That was in 89. I wasn't impressed. I just rode the tallest and fastest coaster in the world and this ride was going to satisfy me? Not! Fast forward to the present. On most day's that it's not crowded you can get on within 10 minutes. Sunday nights it's almost a walk on. You can ride and ride and ride. It's a quick thrill. I like all of the other coaster just like everyone else, but DT has it's own thrill. I consider this an overflow ride. When all of the other coasters are full DT catches the overflow. It's the same with BS and ID. If you get to the park and there is an hour wait for DT you know your in trouble...True DT does need some work. The original blue paint is starting to show as the reddish brown paint flakes off. The effects don't usually work. Who cares! The ride is at the same caliber as ID, BS, CCMR. This ride seems to get most of the slams. If it was AR still people wouldn't be complaining.....Long live DT!
At least 200 laps and now starting to count.
Now let's see some DT support. what's your DT lap count?

Um, I think the "reddish brown paint" is rust... The ride was painted white. :) Interesting idea about overflow, and a lot of rides (smaller coasters and circulars) are like that -- if their lines are long, watch out! But DT is a great ride for families, and many's the time when I've seen kids get off both Disaster and Iron Dragon absolutely thrilled about their first coaster. Enthusiasts come in all sizes, shapes, ages, and thrill levels!

The sad part is that the ride could get some new props that would double the effect and be minimum to maintain.
An interesting Idea my brother had is to relocate the haunted house to the upper Coliseum or the old Aquarium and re open the DT room. Of course the only way that would even be considered is if the ride started getting some attention. And the only way it will get attention is if the ride is fixed up.
