Yes, they were breaking up the concrete for removal.

I'm fairly certain that it is not painted. It's stainless steel, not intended to be painted ever. So when people talk about painting it, it bugs me as much as whenever I see a painted deck. These things are meant to be left unpainted, and once you paint them, you are doomed to keep repainting them until they are removed completely.

Decil, you must cringe when you see blue streak.. all that wood to re-paint. I don't paint my deck, but it is stained. Even that requires reapplication every so many years. Sure beats building a new deck though.
Is it stainless or galvanized? As has been mentioned, the Kings Island variant is painted, although it's not really noticeable unless you are paying attention.
Ripcord was galvanised, but I did notice that they did give it a fresh coat of medium gray paint. Looks much better than the previous galvanised finish with mild rust streaks.

than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Not only do I see Ripcord's placement in the old STR spot taking away a valuable piece of real estate for a possible future water flume or dark ride, but I think its placement STILL being in a low visibility spot, the attraction won't do much better financially then when it was over in Challenge Park. If it does in fact go to this location, I really think park management dropped the ball on this one (not putting it in a better location like Sports Force Park) to generate more revenue. Oh yeah, and this is being stated by one of Cedar Point's biggest fans. My .02
While I'm not at all convinced that placement at SFP would garner more revenue (is SFP going to see ~3 million visitors?), I do agree that using StR's site would be a colossal waste of prime water ride real estate.
But at the same time, CF has made wise decisions with their recent installations, and are privy to info that we may not be aware of, so they deserve the benefit of the doubt as far as I'm concerned.

I think all this concern about the "prime real estate" is over blown. Before STR, that area was nothing but empty. I dont recall anyone saying what a wasted space it was. CP did (and always does) find places for rides no one anticipates. STR was a failure they didnt plan on, so they are left with a developed space that has no ride. Ripcord is an easy filler, relatively cheap to stick in there until the capital plan catches up with the unexpected failure of STR. Even if Ripcord only lasts for 2 or 3 seasons in that spot, it is likely more cost effective than leaving nothing there but a defunct ride. I'm sure that in a few season if that happened everyone here will say how smart they were and they are glad CP figured out it wasn't a good location, but my suspicion is that is the exact plan. I dont understand why everyone is so excited to leave that space empty for multiple year waiting for the next flume. If a flume is in the improvement plan for the park, the existence of Ripcord in a location (or any other ride for that matter) will not delay it.

This. Another thing to keep in mind with the STR area, Ripcord's arch structure is more than twice as tall as STR's highest point, so it will be more visible from farther points. And the CPLERR goes right along the site, so it will also be clear as day to the guests riding the train.
Are we going to have to wait till Winter chill out to see more construction progress in the STR area?
Maybe MaverickLaunch will legally fly his drone over the STR site illegally to get some footage...

Here is my idea for Ripcord if it absolutely has to go to the STR site, which I am still hoping it doesn't.
It will fit nicely where the back portion of STR was on Millie Island. It will be out of the way and not look out of place.
I see it would fit in the infield inside Millie's pretzel loop. But as someone pointed out Dino's are still listed as a Platinum perk for 2017. However, a friend at King's Island says that is not the case there for 2017, if theirs expires next year, CP's should be 2018, IIRC they got their dinos a year before CP.
And my third idea is that it could go right beside the hills on Millie to the far right of the STR site. I think that building there was a storage shed for STR, which they will no longer need. Plus it can swing over the water. That would probably be the best use of that real estate. Then that still leaves plenty of room to put in a dark ride, water ride, coaster or whatever in that remaining land.

^That shed was used for a lot more than just STR parts and maintenance

Good photo placement Thabto (Brian). However, I feel like they would center Ripcord a little since they still have that observance area where you can watch the action. I think If it is announced to go there next year, people will be lining up like crazy in that area to decide If they want to pay the money to ride Ripcord. Knowing me, I'll be there just to take pictures of the area.
Who is to say CF will want to put another water driven ride into the park? With Cedar Point Shores they might not see the need.

^Keep in mind that Snake River Falls and Shoot the Rapids were both built while Soak City was open (Thunder Canyon came 2 years before Soak City). They must have seen a need for building these 2 attractions within the park; after all, one-day visitors are probably much less likely to pay to go to CP Shores during their day, and as such, I think the water rides within the park are still necessary, at least for this group of guests. If they ever decided to make CP Shores included with park admission like several of the other parks in the chain (unlikely considering the "multi-day resort" ideal they're going for), then I could see the need for these rides being reduced. Until then, I think that most one-day visitors would much rather get wet on a free ride than pay $35 to go to a separate waterpark in the middle of their possibly once-a-summer visit. Just my $.02 though.
It's difficult to be certain, but it appears there is some concrete pouring happening at StR's former location.

Ripcord would just be the saddest use of space for STRs site.
I understand its an easily relocated attraction that just requires minimum level grading that can be easily repurposed at a later date. Plopping it there just seems really unimaginative.
