Best Food in the Park

Really the only food I ever eat inside the park anymore is Panda Express. It beats the pants of any of the chinese buffet type places around here.

The biggest thing on my wish list would be for a White Castle to open in Sandusky... yes I know you can get the frozen stuff at the grocery store but its just not the same.

Those of us from the Upper Midwest, really wish that Sandusky would get a Culvers. Heck, I wish Toledo would get a Culvers. I really wish I could get my butterburger and frozen custard (real frozen custard not dressed up soft serve like at CP) fix.

FYI: Butterburger-fresh, not frozen patty served on a buttered then toasted bun. The meat is not dipped in butter like what you would first expect.

Used to love Breakwater Cafe for breakfast. Now they do the
breakfast buffet too. There's nowhere on the Point that
serves pancakes anymore. Makes me very sad, not to mention
very hungry.

Not really sure how you can dis the entire Cedar Point food experience (Game Day Grill has excellent, reasonably priced grilled chicken Caesar Salads, among other things), but then wish for a White Castle?

White Castle?

meh.

I like the White Castle Idea.

White Castle is disgusting. I really dont understand the love affair with it.

+1

^I think White Castle is an acquired taste... I know when I first tried it I felt the same way, but I developed a strange addiction to it over time. :)

That being said, I really wish Sandusky had a Waffle House or even an IHOP.

Others on here and people I've worked with the past two summers all agree that the first person to open a Waffle House on 250 will be rich in no time.

My family has actually talked about franchising one and actually went so far as to contact Waffle House and talk to them about their franchising program, but unfortunately Waffle House only franchises to people who start as managers and spend a few years learning the business in an existing Waffle House location.

I agree though, a Waffle House in Sandusky would be a bigger cash cow than Steak & Shake at 1:00am.

In the mean time, I'm more curious what will happen to the East of Chicago building on Cedar Point Drive next to Breakers Express. My friend's father is the founder of East of Chicago and he runs the EoC in Sandusky during the summer. They lease the building from Cedar Fair and the lease expires this year. The last I heard they had not renenewed the lease and he said the building has a lot of structural problems, so I wonder if it will remain as a restaurant, or if Cedar Fair will take the building back and tear it down to build something new. A 24-hour place like a Waffle House, IHOP, etc would do very well in that location, taking advantage of the tourists during the day and the employees in the evenings after the park (and Louies) closes.

Waffle House's will only build within eye sight of a freeway, all the ones that I have seen were next to a freeway. I don't know about IHOP, I think thay are a main road deal.

Most Waffle House restaurants are right off the highway, but there are a few that I've been to that are several blocks or more from the highway.

There is at least one in the Dayton area that isn't next to the highway, and there are two in Toledo that aren't on a highway, those being the one on Reynolds Road near Rite Aid and the old Southwyck Mall and the one in Holland about half way between I-475 and Toledo Express Airport (a good 3 miles from I-475) where Menard's is. They do have high traffic count requirements, but I'm sure US250 would qualify. US6 or Cedar Point Drive maybe not so much.

Anyway, back to the original subject of the thread, JPH, I didn't realize that there was no place to get pancakes anymore. I believe they still have them in the employee cafeteria on occasion, so I'm not sure why we don't have them in any of our restaurants, at least on the buffets.

With resort foods now being part of accommodations, I know that improving our resort dining options and packages is going to be an area of focus moving forward, so I will bring your suggestion to the attention of my director and see if we can't add pancakes and/or waffles to our menus either this year or next.

I'm not sure which food stand it was, but it was back by Otion Motion. I got a corn dog or "hot dog on a stick", and it was amazing. Yes, amazing. The batter that they used for it wasn't like regular corn dog batter.

Other than that, I usually don't eat inside the park. Last time we ate inside of the park it was at Johnny Rocket's. It was about $30 for my sister and I. We both got chicken tenders, a pop, and split the fries.

I wouldn't have minded paying that price, if the food was worth it. It was very bland. I should have brought my own seasoning from home to put on it.

Tomo in the Hotel Breakers is a very good choice for dinner if you enjoy habachi style places. It can get on the busy side, but they except reservations.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,

^^There is one on 250 already. I've heard good things about it but never tried it. Maybe this year.

I ate at a similar place called Atlanta Bread that offers similar sandwiches. I guess Panera Bread was actually once part of it and then went separate. It was really good so I can imagine Panera being just as delicious.

I wish there was a Tim Hortons out there. Everytime we pass the closed-up former Ponderosa on 250, I think, "That is the perfect spot for a Tim Hortons!"

My favorites "in the park" are:

Bay Harbor (but kinda $$$$), macho nachos at Los Gatos, and the fries by the Gemini or the fries on the main midway (between the Raptor and the Cadillac Cars, I think).

Massive Fannibal and Cedar Point lover!!! Lover of Pennywise 2017!

The best food in the park is what ever you bring from home.

Panera Bread was originally St. Louis Bread Company. They aren't related to Atlanta Bread.

I was excited to try Atlanta Bread when I was driving through GA on my way to Miami in December, but I was really disappointed by it. It doesn't come close to Panera, both in taste and selection. Next time I'll seek out a Panera instead.

I love Panera, but I rarely go to the one in Sandusky unless it is early in the morning to pick up a bagel because it is just too busy in the afternoon. I have had to wait for tables multiple times, even at somewhat off hours like 2:00pm. They definately built that restaurant too small.

Famous Dave's is by far the best, most reasonably priced food within walking distance of the park. The price is even better if you pay for parking, order at least $20 in food and then they knock the $10 paid for parking off of your bill. This is the main reason I have never bought a parking season pass.

Only drawback is that you have to give up your parking receipt so you can't get your car back in the park for free if you need to drive somewhere and comeback.
