Beer carts.

I have noticed that they are now selling beer on the midways. I have not seen this since the 80's, and I think it's about time.

What do you think about this?

For all you old timers out there, you may remember the beer trucks with the taps built into thie sides of the truck. I remember in the 80's, there used to be a truck serving beer near the entrance to white water landing.

I think one of these trucks is still around and located in the picnic area next to blue streak.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Thumbs down on the increased bear carts, I noticed this too. I love beer more than most, but I don't desire beer at CP, the rides are my buzz.

It would be a better convenience so I wouldn't have to walk so far to get me a brew. But paying an extensive amount for a beer at the park is out of the question unless i really crave one. I could see me getting a beer before entering a queue line during JC Weekend ;)

As many people as I always see around the park with beer, and as much money as they have to make off of selling it, I'd say making it more readily available would be a good thing for profits.

All I can say is about time!!!!

All I say is that it's a great way to make beer easier for the underaged to get.

Picture this...groupd of friends in the park, some are in there early 20s, but a couple of them are not old enought to drink. Wow...it's easy now! Walk on up to one of the handy beer carts conveniently located throughout the park and have one your buddies get you a brew! You can then walk around, drinking it secretly...or not. But you all get my point.

Another dumb move on Cedar Fair's part.

How does a beer cart really make it any easier? If someone really wants to drink (or do anything, really), they'll find a way.

That's true. The addition of more beer vendors doesn't really make it easier at all. It just gives them another place to buy the beer.

^^^ - you mean before now this group of friends couldn't send the guys in their 20's into Red Garter or Last Chance Saloon to get beer?

Not saying that, just saying it's easier now because there are more locations to buy it.

Personally, I don't think CP should sell any beer, whether it's available at 2 locations or 50.

I've always thought the Bubbles Swim up bar at SC was ridiculous. I mean, seriously..a bar in the water? Only drunks find this attraction appealing.

Cedar Point is a family destination. Kids should not have to be around drinking, smoking, and the like.

JuggaLotus's avatar

How does drinking make it not a family destination?

And since when does a swim-up bar only appeal to drunks? Maybe its for people who want more than a HI-C while they are relaxing at the pool.

The US is so backward in their attitudes toward alcohol its hilarious.

Add to that list sexuality, socialism and nutrition (and many more).

I don't know. Alcohol seems to be the center of life for a lot of people. I've seen enough in college and during business travel to believe it. There are a lot of people who don't know the difference between enjoying a few drinks and not remembering what happened last night.

I'm not saying that there are too many beer locations at Cedar Point. Honestly, I don't see any problems with alcohol sales at the park. Just saying, in general.

^^Alcohol is not a negative influence towards children... Alcohol abusers are.

I'm not a drunk and the swim up bar sounds like a pretty great idea.

Does GL sell beer?

^ - but that also goes toward that backward attitude Walt.

Go to Europe. It is considered shameful to get falling over stupid drunk in public. While they may drink that much in the privacy of their homes, it is not where the whole world can see them.

Here, its considered a mark of pride (by some, not all obviously) to get falling over drunk in public. With no regrets for having been a complete ass the night before.

That is where the biggest difference between us and them comes from. Here we treat alcohol as this sacred cow and hold it up as this thing to be attained, and when you do, you are AWESOME. In Europe, its there. They acknowledge it and they make sure their neighbor knows that if he's seen being a drunken ass that he won't forget it. And not in a friendly joking way, it will be in a pox on your house, you have shamed you and your relatives sort of way.

I always wondered if being intoxicated would enhance my experience at an amusement park or take away from it. It seems like the queues would be a little less boring... but I'm sure that everyone around me would want my head on a stick afterward too.. I've never been drunk at CP, and I'm pretty sure I won't be doing it for a while either. I'll save that experience for the bars.

Oh my god, a 20 year old might enjoy a beer a few months before the government says it's ok to do so. The world is coming to an end.

Seriously, most of the alcohol problems in this country stem from ridiculous laws and the even more ridiculous social attitudes and misconceptions that a small amount of people have toward alcohol. Look at every other country in the world (excluding the Muslim countries where alcohol is completely outlawed) and you'll see that more relaxed laws and social attitudes make the alcohol "problem" much much smaller.

And this is coming from someone who hardly ever drinks.

I don't see how binge drinking or alcohol abuse is the fault of misconceptions. People who get wasted at Put-N-Bay, a hotel bar, or the local frat house do so for a variety of reasons, none of which have anything to do with people who are uptight about drinking. There is no prohibition, alcohol can be obtained easily, and drinking is widely accepted.

I guess I should clarify what I meant by the misconceptions. I mean the people who believe that having one beer is going to make you behave like an idiot, throw up in the corner, and not remember anything the next day. I know quite a few people with that kind of conception, and I think a lot of that comes from the efforts of our society to teach kids that all alcohol is bad and evil. Alcohol's misconception as being this bad and dangerous thing among younger people, especially teenagers, is at least partly responsible for driving so many underage people want to drink. It ends up being this cool, dangerous, edgy thing to do to impress all your friends, and that's what leads to problems.
